중공업 남성근로자의 직무스트레스, 우울, 음주 (Occupational Stress, Depression, Drinking of Heavy Industrial Male Workers)

  • 본 연구는 중공업 남성근로자들의 직무스트레스, 우울, 음주를 파악하고 이들의 인구사회학적 특성, 직무스트레스 및 우울과 음주 간의 관련성을 파악하고자 시행하였다. Y시에 위치하고 있는 일개 중공업에 근무하고 있는 근로자를 대상으로 2014년 5월 1일부터 6월 30일까지 설문지를 이용하여 312명의 자료를 최종 분석대상으로 하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN 20.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였으며, t-test, ANOVA, 사후검정은 scheffe-test, pearson correlation coefficient, 다중회귀분석을 활용하였다. 본 연구결과 대상자의 직무 스트레스는 $53.77({\pm}6.33)$점 이었고, 우울은 $12.10({\pm}7.44)$점, 음주는 $10.32({\pm}7.55)$점이었다. 직무 스트레스와 우울은 유의한 상관관계가 나타나지 않았으나, 직무스트레스와 음주, 우울과 음주는 유의한 상관관계가 나타났다. 또한 직무스트레스와 음주의 설명력은 15.9%로 나타났다. 직무스트레스와 음주, 우울과 음주가 서로 강화할 수 있으므로 근로자의 건강관리 시 함께 관리되어야 할 것이다. 또한 중공업 남성근로자들의 직무스트레스가 한국인 남성 직무스트레스의 평균보다 높으므로 직무스트레스를 관리할 수 있는 프로그램과 우울과 음주수준이 높은 근로자를 대상으로 우울관리와 절주프로그램을 통하여 신체적 정신적 건강을 관리하여야 할 것이다.

교대근무와 수면시간이 우리나라 임금근로자의 대사증후군에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Shift Work and Hours of Sleep on Metabolic Syndrome in Korean Workers)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of shift work and hours of sleep on metabolic syndrome in Korean workers. Methods: This study used the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data of 2014. The study included 1,579 Korean workers aged over 20. $x^2$ test, t-test, and hierarchical multiple logistic regression were used for statistical analysis of data. Results: From the univariate analysis, hours of sleep, regular work, occupational group, sex, age, marital status, education, smoking, and self-rated health were significantly related to metabolic syndrome. After adjusting demographic, occupational, and health-related variables, workers with under 6 hours/day of sleep showed higher risk for metabolic syndrome (AOR: 1.56, 95% CI: 1.01~2.44), and shift work was not significantly related to metabolic syndrome. Male laborers and workers aged 40 or older also showed higher risk for metabolic syndrome. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that workers with under 6 hours of sleep, male laborers and workers aged 40 or older are the risk groups of metabolic syndrome. Therefore, prevention and management program for metabolic syndrome should be implemented for this population.

전남 여수 산단에 근무하는 일부 남자근로자들의 주관적 건강상태 및 건강증진제 섭취 실태에 관한 연구 (An Investigation of the Intake of the Health Improving Agents and Health Status by Male Workers in Chonnam Yeosu Industrial Area)

  • This study was carried out to examine information regarding usage of health improving agents and health status of male workers in the Chonnam Yeosu industrial area. We obtained data by means of a questionnaire from 329 men. Of the subjects 44.7% were in their forties, high school education was 43.0%, married was 83.0% and $1,500{\sim}3,000$ thousand won in monthly income was 35.8%. Average height and weight of the subjects was $171.8{\pm}5.4 cm$ and $70.5{\pm}8.1 kg$. Average BMI was $23.8{\pm}2.2$. Drinking rate of respondents was 85.5%, the drinking rate of daily workers was significantly higher than rotation workers (p < 0.05). Rotation workers exercised more regularly than daily workers (p < 0.001). Subjective symptoms of the subjects always had eye problems (11.7%), shoulder aches (5.8%), ache in one's empty stomach (4.7%) in decreasing order. 21.4% of the subjects had a disease, and liver disease was the highest in the subjects; the second was cardio-vascular disease. Interval of health food intake was highly irregular (62.7% of respondents), and keeping healthy was the main motivation fur the usage of health foods. Health improving agents included oriental medicine, animal protein based restorative foods, nutrition supplements, health supplements, and natural foods. 33.3% of the subjects took health supplements, nutrition supplements (29.1%), oriental medicine (20.6%), natural foods (16.7%) and animal protein based restorative foods (3.9%), in respective order. Health improving agents were consumed higher in liver disease than other diseases. This study suggests that nutritional education and monitoring should be implemented for industrial workers to prevent life-habit diseases and to keep proper self-management of health status under special environments.

중년 직장 남성의 갱년기 증상에 따른 우울과 건강증진행위 (Depression and Health Promoting Behavior Depending on the Climacteric Symptoms of Middle-aged Male Workers)

  • Purpose: This study is the narrative investigating research to comprehend the climacteric symptoms, depression and health promoting behavior of the male workers and to develop the nursing intervention. Methods: The research was done from August to September 2011, and the subjects were the middle-aged males between 40 and 64 working in capital cities of Chungcheongnamdo. Among the 220 questionnaires, 189 were retrieved and used for the analysis. The data analysis was done by $x^2$-test, and t-test using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: The 70.9% of the subjects showed male climacterium and among them, those in their 40s showed high rate to the change in the body and emotions whereas those in their 50s showed high rate to the sexual function-related symptoms. Also, having the climacteric symptoms showed significant changes in depression and health promoting behavior. Conclusion: To promote health of the middle-aged male workers and the nursing intervention for those who show depression, verifying whether these males have climacteric symptoms is necessary.

남성 생산직과 사무직 근로자의 운동행위에 영향을 미치는 요인: Pender의 건강증진 모형을 활용 (Factors Influencing Exercise Behavior of the Male Manual Worker and Office Worker based on Health Promotion Model)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing exercise behaviors of the male manual workers and office workers based on health promotion model by examining the relationships among them, and then to provide basic information for developing exercise program. Methods: The 97 laborers and 99 officiers were collected from two worksites. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Results: Male laborers' exercise behavior was significantly influenced by exercise self-efficacy, exercise social support and exercise experience over 3 months, and these factors explained 50.2% of the total variance. Male officiers' exercise behavior was significantly influenced by exercise self-efficacy, subjective health status, perceived exercise barriers and exercise social support, and they explained 47.3% of the total variance. Conclusions: Based on the findings that exercise self-efficacy and exercise social support commonly influence exercise behavior of male laborers and officiers, there is a need to develop an exercise program to improve exercise self-efficacy and exercise social support.

Men, Work, and Mental Health: A Systematic Review of Depression in Male-dominated Industries and Occupations

  • Among men, depression is often unrecognised and untreated. Men employed in male-dominated industries and occupations may be particularly vulnerable. However, efforts to develop tailored workplace interventions are hampered by lack of prevalence data. A systematic review of studies reporting prevalence rates for depression in male dominated workforce groups was undertaken. Studies were included if they were published between 1990 - June 2012 in English, examined adult workers in male-dominated industries or occupations (> 70% male workforce), and used clinically relevant indicators of depression. Twenty studies met these criteria. Prevalence of depression ranged from 0.0% to 28.0%. Five studies reported significantly lower prevalence rates for mental disorders among male-dominated workforce groups than comparison populations, while six reported significantly higher rates. Eight studies additionally found significantly higher levels of depression in male-dominated groups than comparable national data. Overall, the majority of studies found higher levels of depression among workers in male-dominated workforce groups. There is a need to address the mental health of workers in male-dominated groups. The workplace provides an important but often overlooked setting to develop tailored strategies for vulnerable groups.

이황화탄소 폭로가 혈압에 미치는 영향에 관한 분석적 연구 (An Analytic Study on the Effect of Carbon Disulfide on the Blood Pressure)

  • To investigate the effect of carbon disulfide on blood pressure, the BP measurements in the periodic health examination results and the medical records of factory clinic were reviewed. The study subjects were composed of 1336 male and 544 female workers, who were categorized into three groups by the exposure status-highly exposed, moderately exposed and non-exposed group. The results of the study were as follows; 1. The age-adjusted mean systolic and diastolic BP of male workers were 122.35 mmHg/79.11 mmHg in highly exposed, 121.57mmHg/79.05mmHg in moderately exposed and 122.67mmHg/82.27mmHg in non-exposed group. For female workers, BPs were 115.13mmHg/74.49mmHg in moderately exposed and 113.48mmHg/74.30mmHg in non-exposed group. 2. In multiple regression analysis of maximum BP against Age and tenure, the slope coefficients of age and tenure on the systolic BP were 0.379, 0.667 respectively and those on the diastolic BP were 0.331, 0.405 respectively in highly exposed male workers. Tenure was a significant variable in this study. For female workers, however the slope coefficients of tenure on BP were significant only for systolic BP of moderately-exposed group. 3. In multiple regression analysis of Bp against age, cumulative exposure index (CEI), cholesterol, all the variables showed significant slope coefficients in male, but age and CEI on systolic BP were significant for female workers (p<0.05). 4. In the multiple analysis of the amount of Bp change and the velocity of Bp change among male workers, the slope coefficients of tenure tended to increase as exposure level increased. Among female workers, the slope coefficients of tenure were significant on the amount of Bp change and the velocity of Bp change in moderately exposed group.

한국 임금근로자의 우울과 관련된 융복합적 요인: 성별 차이를 중심으로 (Convergent Factors Related to Depression of Wage Workers in Korea: Focusing on Gender Differences)

  • 본 연구는 남녀 임금근로자의 우울 유병률과 우울 관련 융복합적 요인의 규명을 위해 시행되었다. 2014년, 2016년 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 19세 이상 65세 미만 성인 3,763명(남성 1,888명, 여성 1,875)을 대상으로 분석하였다. 우울은 Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9)으로 측정하였으며 전체 근로자의 우울(PHQ-9≥10)은 4.1%(남성 3.2%, 여성 5.0%)로 나타났다. 남녀 근로자의 우울 영향 요인을 평가하기 위해 다중 로지스틱 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 남성 근로자에서 일 관련 특성인 고용 유형, 주당 근로시간은 인구사회학적 특성, 건강 관련 특성, 생활습관 특성을 보정한 후에도 우울과 유의한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 여성 근로자에서 일 관련 특성은 유의한 관련을 보이지 않아 남성과 차이를 보였다. 그러므로 우울 위험 요인의 성별 특성을 고려한 직장 내 상담 또는 정신건강 증진 프로그램을 개발, 수행할 필요가 있다. 또한 남녀 모두 건강 관련 특성(우울증 진단 여부, 자살 계획 여부, 스트레스 인지 수준, 미충족 의료서비스 여부, 주관적 건강상태)이 우울과 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났으므로 이들 요인에 대한 지속적인 관리가 요구된다.

경제 활동을 하는 남녀 노인의 삶의 질에 관한 탐색적 연구 - 요구-조절-지지 모델을 중심으로 (A Study on the Elderly Workers' Psychological Well-being - An Application of the Demand-Control-Support Model)

  • This study examined the differences of elderly workers' psychological well-being according to gender and explored the variables which account for their psychological well-being. Paid laborers aged 60 or older(eight-five men and nine-eight females) were interviewed. The psychological well-being of male workers was higher than that of the female workers. The control level of activity and family support were the variables that explained the psychological well-being of male paid workers. The higher the control level of activity was, and the more support given from family, the higher the psychological well-being scores they showed. Educational level, demand level of activity, and material reward determined the psychological well-being of female workers. The higher their educational level was, the lower the demand level of activity was, and the fewer rewards they received from paid work, the higher their psychological well-being was.

Trends in Obesity Prevalence by Occupation Based on Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey From 1998 to 2015

  • Background: It is well known that the prevalence of obesity in Korea is increasing over time, however it is not known how the trends among occupational groups and sex differ in such increasing trends. This study was designed to provide recent trends of obesity among workers in Korea and to identify whether there were differences among occupational groups. Methods: We used data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, Phases I to VI (19982015), to analyze trends in the prevalence of obesity in adult Korean workers. Obesity was defined as a body mass index of 25 kg/㎡ or higher. Occupations were classified into 3 groups: (a) nonmanual workers, (b) service/sales workers, and (c) manual workers. Results: During the period of the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Phases I to VI, the prevalence of obesity in male workers increased in all occupations (31.1% to 39.5% in manual workers, 32.3% to 38.2% in service/sales workers, and 25.3% to 39.7% in manual workers). However, female workers did not show any particular tendency toward obesity, except for a significant decrease in the prevalence rate in service/sales workers (30.8% to 23.9%, p for trend = 0.0048). Conclusion: The trends of obesity prevalence by sex and occupation were different. For male manual workers, the prevalence rate increased steadily during the data period, while it decreased steadily in female sales/service workers.
