As a preliminary study to establish fracture network model in crystalline rocks, detail investigation on fracture characteristics were performed. Five fracture sets were determined on the basis of regional survey of geological structures and fractures on outcrops. Among the fracture sets, S1 set has the highest density and longest trace length of fractures which was identified on surface in the study area. S4 and S5 sets are composed of foliations and foliation parallel shear joints of gneisses, which are very important sets at the aspect of weighting of fracture length. For characterization of subsurface fractures, detail core logging was performed to identify fractures and fracture zones from five boreholes. Acoustic televiewer logging and borehole geophysical loggings produced images, orientations and geophysical properties of fractures which intersect with boreholes. According to the result of the investigations, subsurface fractures can be grouped as three preferred orientations(B1, B2 and B3), which correspond to S1, S2 and S4/S5 of surface fracture sets, respectively. Actually, B1 set is expected to be intensely developed at subsurface. However, it has low frequency of intersection with boreholes due to its parallel or sub-parallel direction to boreholes. According to the inference of conductive fractures, B1 and B3 sets have possibilities of water flow and their intersection lines are also thought to consist of important conduits of groundwater flow. In particular, faults which are parallel to foliations control major groundwater flow in the study area.
The warrants to install traffic signals used in U.S.A. are well specified comparing to those in other countries. Among the eleven warrants of the U.S.A., the Warrant 9, 10, and 11 are especially fit in practice. The warrant relaxed to traffic volumes used presently in Korea have been adopted from the U.S.A. Those may not have been reliable in the traffic situation of Korea. The rules required passing through intersections are not kept well at intersections controlled without signals. The purposes of this study are to test and evaluate the reliability of the Warrant 9 and 11 adopted form U.S.A.n Korean traffic situation and to propose new traffic signal warrants related to traffic volumes fitted in here. The traffic volume warrants are proposed considering the situation of rules not being kept well(current situation) and that of vice versa(ideal situation). The results of this study are following; 1) The total volumes warranted to traffic signals are 1600vph, 1700vph, and 1800vph at 4-legs intersection having 1 by 1 lane, 1 by 2 lanes, and 2 by 2 lanes respectively. The total volumes warranted are 1400vph and 1600vph at 3-legs intersection haying 1 by 2 1anes, and 2 by 2 lanes respectively. 2) Another traffic warrants proposed are transformed from the currant warrants 9 and 11. These warrants are composed of the total volumes and the ratio of the volume of the minor street to that of the major street.

Background: Busan is a rapidly industrializing city with many mixed residential and industrial areas. Fine dust emissions from mobile pollution sources such as ships and vehicles are particularly high in Busan. Objectives: This study analyzed the spatial distribution of air pollutants over the past three years and identified the impact of air pollutants through mobile source data in Busan. Methods: We obtained air pollutant data on fine particulate matter (PM10), ultrafine particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfurous acid gas (SO2), and ozone (O3) for the last three years (source: airkorea.or.kr) and analyzed the spatial distribution using SAS 9.4 and Surfer 23. For the mobile pollutant data, we used CCTV data from major intersections in Busan to identify truck and car traffic, and visualized traffic density with QGIS. Results: The analysis of the concentration of air pollutants over three years (2020~2022) showed that all were lower than the annual environmental standards with the exception of PM2.5. PM10 and PM2.5 were found to be highly concentrated in the western part of the area, while NO2 was high in the port area of Busan and SO2 was high in the western part of the area and near the new port of Busan. In the case of O3, it was high in the eastern part of the city. The traffic volume of freight vehicles by intersection was concentrated in the West Busan area, and the traffic volume for all cars was also confirmed to be concentrated at "Mandeok Intersection" located in the West Busan area. Conclusions: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between air pollutants emitted from motor vehicles and the distribution of air pollutants in Busan. The spatial distribution of PM10 and PM2.5 correlates with traffic volume, while high concentrations of SO2 and NO2 near the port are associated with ship emissions.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the location of the epicenter of a medium-sized earthquake(magnitude 4.8) that occurred on January 20, 2007 in the Odaesan area with lineament features using a shaded relief map(1/25,000 scale) and satellite images from LANDSAT-8 and KOMPSAT-2. Previous studies have analyzed lineament features in tectonic settings primarily by examining two-dimensional satellite images and shaded relief maps. These methods, however, limit the application of the visual interpretation of relief features long considered as the major component of lineament extraction. To overcome some existing limitations of two-dimensional images, this study examined three-dimensional images, produced from a Digital Elevation Model and drainage network map, for lineament extraction. This approach reduces mapping errors introduced by visual interpretation. In addition, spline interpolation was conducted to produce density maps of lineament frequency, intersection, and length required to estimate the density of lineament at the epicenter of the earthquake. An algorithm was developed to compute the Value of the Relative Density(VRD) representing the relative density of lineament from the map. The VRD is the lineament density of each map grid divided by the maximum density value from the map. As such, it is a quantified value that indicates the concentration level of the lineament density across the area impacted by the earthquake. Using this algorithm, the VRD calculated at the earthquake epicenter using the lineament's frequency, intersection, and length density maps ranged from approximately 0.60(min) to 0.90(max). However, because there were differences in mapped images such as those for solar altitude and azimuth, the mean of VRD was used rather than those categorized by the images. The results show that the average frequency of VRD was approximately 0.85, which was 21% higher than the intersection and length of VRD, demonstrating the close relationship that exists between lineament and the epicenter. Therefore, it is concluded that the density map analysis described in this study, based on lineament extraction, is valid and can be used as a primary data analysis tool for earthquake research in the future.

By Wikipedia, data mining is the process of discovering patterns in a big data set involving methods at the intersection of association rule, decision tree, clustering, artificial intelligence, machine learning. and database systems. Association rule is a method for discovering interesting relations between items in large transactions by interestingness measures. Association rule interestingness measures play a major role within a knowledge discovery process in databases, and have been developed by many researchers. Among them, the Hellinger measure is a good association threshold considering the information content and the generality of a rule. But it has the drawback that it can not determine the direction of the association. In this paper we proposed a signed Hellinger measure to be able to interpret operationally, and we checked three conditions of association threshold. Furthermore, we investigated some aspects through a few examples. The results showed that the signed Hellinger measure was better than the Hellinger measure because the signed one was able to estimate the right direction of association.
In this paper, we propose a method for reconstructing a 3D object (or a set of objects) from a 2D drawing provided by a designer. The input 2D drawing consists of a set of contours that may partially overlap each other or be self-overlapping. Accordingly, the resulting 3D object(s) may occlude each other or be self-occluding. The proposed method is composed of three major steps: 2D contour analysis, 3D skeleton computation, and 3D object construction. Our main contribution is to compute the 3D skeleton from the self-intersecting 2D counterpart. We formulate the 3D skeleton construction problem as a sequence of optimization problems, to shape the skeleton and place it in the 3D space while satisfying C1-continuity and intersection-free conditions. Our method is mainly for a silhouette-based sketching interface for the design of 3D objects including self-intersecting objects.
This study deals with the turn penalty functions in the urban transportation demand forecasting. The objectives are to develop the penalty functions of left-turn traffic in the case of signalized intersections, and to analyze the applicability of the functions to the traffic assignment models. This is based on the background that the existing models can not effectively account for the delays of left-turn traffic which is bigger than that of through traffic. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attention to developing the penalty functions based on the degrees of saturation by simulation results of Transyt-7F, and analyzing the applicability of the functions by the case study of Cheongju. The major findings are the followings. First, two penalty functions developed according to the degrees of saturation, are evaluated to be all statistically significant. Second, the results that the above functions apply to the Cheongju network, are analyzed to be converging, though the iteration numbers increase. Third, the link volumes forecasted by turn penalty functions are evaluated to be better fitted to the observed data than those by the existing models. Finally, the differences of traffic volumes assigned by two functions, which are exponential and divided forms, are analyzed to be very small.

The Pasadena Freeway follows the Arroyo Seco through foothills and scenic passes to link Downtown Los Angeles with Pasadena. The approximately 10 mile road was the first freeway built in the West during the 1930's and is today designated as a Historic Parkway. As it approaches Pasadena, it terminates at a traffic light intersection at Glenarm Street, and then becomes a commercial road the Arroyo Parkway. This one and a quarter mile long, north south road moves significant volumes of traffic both into and out of Pasadena. The Arroyo Parkway is thus a major 'gateway' and an important axis of orientation and movement, terminating in the City's core civic, commercial and retail district. Planting, lighting, signage, paving, furnishing and fixtures ought to all be properly designed and coordinated to create a distinctive 'gateway' experience arriving to Pasadena and driving along the Arroyo Parkway. Alternate design studies, developed in discussion with City officials and others involved in the redevelopment of the area, would need to be done to properly decide on the best direction. Issues of heritage and traditional streetscape will likely have to be reconciled with both the reality of the vehicular character of the road and more contemporary themes. Obviously with such large parcels of property available in the Arroyo Fair Oaks corridor, there is a huge potential for redevelopment and building. This potential would only be strengthened by the Light Rail Line and its stations, the improvements to the Arroyo Parkway, and the redevelopment of the Arts Center College of Design. Guides and controls to the development process, including programming and physical design studies, would need to be developed in order to ensure that the maximum potential for the corridor be realized. This concept proposal suggests that the whole strip might be developed as a Arts and Technology corridor, with special emphases on education, public culture, media and lifestyle. The full programming possibilities need to be further developed. Additionally, appropriate urban design guidelines to ensure high quality development also need to be incorporated into an overall development plan.

Purpose: We analyzed the Metatarso-Phalangeal Oblique Angle(MPOA) of Diabetic foot. Materials and methods: We studied retrospectively 60 cases of diabetic foot in 52 patients, for the evaluation of the correlations between clinical outcomes and radiologic findings in the conservative management group (Group A; 36 cases) and the major operation group (Group B; 24 cases). We measured MPOA on AP view. The MPOA was defined as the intersection angle of the Metatarso-Phalangeal Break Line (a line passing from the second to fifth metatarsal heads) and the long axis of foot in sagittal plane. We performed the statistical analysis between MPOA and clinical outcomes. by independent t-test. Results: The mean of MPOA in group B, $70.79^{\circ}$ (range: $62.8^{\circ}-81.3^{\circ}$), was significantly higher than that in group A, $68.04^{\circ}$ (range: $62.0^{\circ}-76.4^{\circ}$). The mean of MPOA in patients of fore foot lesions(30 cases), $71.30^{\circ}$ (range: $62.0^{\circ}-71.5^{\circ}$), was significantly higher than that in patients of hind foot lesions(30 cases), $66.97^{\circ}$(range: $62.8^{\circ}-81.3^{\circ}$). Conclusions: We recognized the MPOA might be useful simple parameter in assessing the diabetic foot.
This case study investigated red light violations at CBD, suburban and rural signalized intersections in chungbuk. The goal of this study is to understanding the collection between red light violations and various driver, vehicles and environmental factors. This study uses descriptive statistics analysis and logistics analysis with SPSS 12.0 software. The major results of this study are as follows. First, red light violations occurred at rural and CBD more than suburban area. Second, About 81.1% of the violators were traveling at or below the posted speed limit. Moreover, 77.3% of the violations occurred within 2 seconds after the on set of red light. Finally, the logistic regression model, which is statistically significant(chisquare=0.000, McFadde=0.265)was developed, and includes the local type(CBD/suburban/rural), violators' gender, season, vehicle type, time of day, vehicle speed as the independent variables. In this study did not find significant relationship between red light violators' age and their driving behavior approaching signalized intersections.
