Discussion : Vision and Strategy for Undergraduate Statistics Major Program (토론 : 통계학 학부전공 프로그램의 비전과 전략에 비추어)

  • We discuss the paper by Cho, Shin, Lee, and Han on the "information-relate" undergraduate statistics major program from the following perspectives: Recently, Korean universities are under re-structuring turmoil. To effectively confront the situation, we need both the vision and the strategy for statistics and statistics departments. For undergraduate statistics major program, our visions are 1) it should not be preliminary education program targeted for the graduate degrees, 2) it should be responsive to future social demand, and 3) it should incorporate the progressive identity of statistics as information and data science. As strategies, we propose 1) the effective integration and due balance among data collection, management and analysis, 2) the harmony and role development of computers and mathematics as statistical tools, 3) the statistics education through task-oriented problem solving, and 4) the emphasis of team work and communication skills.on skills.

A Hierarchical deep model for food classification from photographs

  • Recognizing food from photographs presents many applications for machine learning, computer vision and dietetics, etc. Recent progress of deep learning techniques accelerates the recognition of food in a great scale. We build a hierarchical structure composed of deep CNN to recognize and classify food from photographs. We build a dataset for Korean food of 18 classes, which are further categorized in 4 major classes. Our hierarchical recognizer classifies foods into four major classes in the first step. Each food in the major classes is further classified into the exact class in the second step. We employ DenseNet structure for the baseline of our recognizer. The hierarchical structure provides higher accuracy and F1 score than those from the single-structured recognizer.

Bootstrapping and DNA marker Mining of BMS941 microsatellite locus in Hanwoo chromosome 17

  • LOD scores and a permutation test for detecting and locating Quantitative trait loci(QTL) from the Hanwoo economic trait have been described and we selected a considerable major BMS941 locus. K -means clustering analysis of eight markers in BMS941 and four traits resulted in three cluster groups. Finally, we applied the bootstrap test method to calculate confidence intervals for finding major DNA markers. We conclude that the major markers of BMS941 locus in Hanwoo chromosome 17 are markers 85bp and 105bp.

  • In this paper, major species of tree were discriminated in compartment by using LiDAR data and optic imagery. This is an important work in forest field. A current digital stock map has created the aerial photo and collecting survey data. Unlike high resolution imagery, LiDAR data is not influenced by topographic effects since it is an active sensory system. LiDAR system can measure three dimension information of individual tree. And the main methods of this study were to extract reliable the individual tree and analysis techniques to facilitate the used LiDAR data for calculating tree crown 2D parameter. We should estimate the forest inventory for calculating parameter. 2D parameter has need of area, perimeter, diameter, height, crown shape, etc. Eventually, major species of tree were determined the tree parameters, compared a digital stock map.

  • DNA marker 95bp and 100bp are selected as major DNA markers of the BM4311 microsatellite locus in progeny test Hanwoo chromosome 6 linkage map. This document is tried to know whether DNA marker 95bp and 100bp are also major DNA markers in Hanwoo performance valuation in chromosome 6 linkage map. The bootstrap BCa method will be used to calculate confidence interval for DNA markers.

  • Optical fiber is a kind of local loop types. Local loop unbundling(LLU) has been understood as a way to facilitate competition in the access and local telephone service markets. Major countries such as US, Germany, Canada and UK are currently implementing LLU and many other countries are considering its introduction. The purpose of this paper is to review the opening process of optical fiber network in major countries, and to discuss the implication of case study.

  • Airway wall thickness is an important bio-marker for evaluation of pulmonary diseases such as stenosis, bronchiectasis. Nevertheless, an image-based analysis of the airway tree can provide precise and valuable airway size information, quantitative measurement of airway wall thickness in CT images involves various sources of error and uncertainty. So we have developed an accurate airway wall measurement technique for small airways with three-dimensional (3-D) approach. To illustrate performance of these techniques, we used airway phantom that consisted of 4 acryl tubes with various inner and outer diameters. Results show that evaluation of interpolation and deconvolution methods of airways in 3-D CT images, and significant improvement over the full-width-half-maximum method for measurement of not only location of the luminal and outer edge of the airway wall but airway wall thickness.

  • 최근에는 다양한 형태의 성폭력을 발생하면서 이를 방지하기 위한 교육이 따라가지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 모바일 기기의 보급이 활성화되면서 모바일 기기 기반의 교육 프로그램이 만들어지기 시작하고 있으며 성폭력 방지를 위한 어플리케이션이 하나의 좋은 교육 프로그램 형태가 될 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 성폭력 예방 교육을 위한 시스템 제작 사례를 소개한다. 제안한 시스템은 플래시 기반으로 제작되었으며 클라이언트는 개인용 컴퓨터 및 각종 모바일 장치에서 수행된다.

Education Course Model based on AP CSP For Improvement of Computational Thinking

  • Computational Thinking is one of the biggest issues in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is a core literacy required not only for SW major but also for all students including them. It is not a simple computer software education, but a coding education based on Computational Thinking, and it should be able to solve the problems in everyday life and to express the process and solutions. However, in the case of students who lack background knowledge on SW and programming languages for development, it is hard to know how to algorithmize problems and express them using computer devices. In this study, we proposed a education course model to improve the students' thinking skills and to express them effectively. In addition, we confirmed whether the non-major students who learned through this education course model can express various problems related to the major field by integrating them with computing accidents and improve the problem solving ability.

  • An effective crisis management system capable of responding early in the event of a major disaster or cyber crisis is needed not only within the organization but also with the partner organizations and the outside. In this paper, we review the domestic and international countermeasures against major disasters and cyber crises, and discuss the emerging crisis responses and future prospects along with the development of ICT technology.
