  • Several micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) are required as co-factors in DNA synthesis, DNA repair, DNA methylation and apoptosis. Some notable examples include (a) folic acid and vitamin B12 required for maintenance methylation of DNA and the synthesis of dTTP from dUTP, thus prevent the misincorporation of uracil into DNA, a highly mutagenic and chromosome-breaking event, (b) niacin, is essential in the form of the coenzymes NAD and NADP which act as a substrate for polyADPribose polymerase (PARP), an enzyme thought to facilitate efficient DNA repair and telomere length regulation and (c) zinc, apart from its antioxidant role as a co-factor in Cu/Zn SOD, it is required in its stabilizing role of the DNA-binding domain of p53 (residues 102-292) and thus is essential for apoptotic response to DNA damage.   • Large amount of dredged sea soil is produced in southeast seashore region in during harbor maintenance. Disposal of dredged sea soil has become difficult due to the environmental regulation. Therefore, disposal of dredged sea soil method is to landfill. But, the capacity of the landfill limit state and if the size of the dredged sea soil is in the range of silt or clay, it cannot be used as reclamation material because ground subsidence occur. In this study, analyzed the pozzolanic activity of dredged sea soil. Analysis of the results showed a pozzolanic activity of dredged sea soil. In addition, incorporation of heat treated dredged sea soil increase both 28 and 56 day compressive strength of mortar specimen.

  • Protective coatings at nuclear power plants should be designed to withstand exposure to ambient conditions during normal operation or design-basis accidents. However, there was a change in the perception of the protective coating to the revision of the Regulatory Guidelines by the NRC in July 2000. In other words, maintenance guidelines have been strengthened in order to minimize the clogging of the cooling water system due to the substances in the containment building. Therefore, KHNP, the contractor and operator of the nuclear power plant, plans to develop the coating system for nuclear power plants in accordance with the regulation, and plans to develop its own coating expert.

  • Recent recovery of the Korean economy drives a rapid increase in utility consumption and requires more stable utility supply and maintenance. However, power location security hardship, reinforcement of international environmental regulation and a huge cost of power plant construction have increased the burden laid on the stable supply. In addition, an efficient and flexible load management is required more than any era since an increment of the rate of increase in cooling load is expected. Therefore, according as the necessity of direct load control for cooling load during the summer in Korea was on the rise, direct load control systems by Internet communication method are constructed at five commercial buildings. Based on practical load control, this study proposes various application modes and communication methods prior to extension diffusion of direct load control hereafter.

  • The Wnt signaling network, which is composed of Wnt ligands, receptors, antagonists, and intracellular signaling molecules, has emerged as a powerful regulator of cell fate, proliferation, and function in multicellular organisms. Over the past two decades, the critical role of Wnt signaling in embryonic cartilage and bone development has been well established, and much has been learnt regarding the role of Wnt signaling in chondrogenesis and cartilage development. However, relatively little is known about the role of Wnt signaling in adult articular cartilage and degenerative cartilage tissue. This review will briefly summarize recent advances in Wnt regulation of chondrogenesis and hypertrophic maturation of chondrocytes, and review data concerning the role of Wnt signaling in the maintenance and degeneration of articular chondrocytes and cartilage.

  • A rail heating system can be classified as the method which uses a natural phenomena change in climate condition and the method which uses electric energy. The former uses a the sunshine and wind for frozen rail or snow. On the other hand, and the latter uses the electric energy. In this paper, to set up an effective thaw system in railway facilities using the electric energy, the component for thaw equipments, the installing method, the method for temperature regulation, and the maintenance technique will be analyzed and compared, which results in an introduction of an effective and economic scheme for respective railway systems. Although the portion of thaw system is not quite large in the entire railway facilities, a significant energy saving and cost reduction can be expected if the proper system is employed.

  • The Na$^{+}$-K$^{+}$ pump, a plasma membrane Na$^{+}$-K$^{+}$ ATPase is plays a key role in the regulation and maintenance of Na$^{+}$ and $K^{+}$ ion concentration gradients across cell membranes. This enzyme pumps three Na$^{+}$ out of and two $K^{+}$ into the cell against their electrochemical gradient by utilizing the energy derived from ATP. Therefore, the Na$^{+}$-K$^{+}$ pump generates a net outward electrical current.(omitted)ted)

  • Construction industry has been participated in the effort for the reduction of environmental pollution such as introduction of green building certification, enactment of environment related regulation. However these efforts are focused on the design and maintenance phases of entire life cycle, construction phase that can occur intensive environmental impact in a short period is insufficient. Therefore this study aim to derive environmental management factors in construction phase and assess them using reliability analysis and factor analysis. As a results, the 20 factors was classified into 4 superordinate such as 'plan and supervision', 'environmental factor management', 'licensing management', 'surrounding environment management'.Based on result of this study, further study should be developed the checklist for effective environmental management in construction phase.
