In this paper, the Flow Control Fin(FCF) optimization has been carried out using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) techniques. This study focused on evaluation for the performance of the FCF attached in the stern part of the ship. The main advantage of FCF is to enhance the resistance performance through the lift generation with a forward force component on the foil section, and the propulsive performance by the uniformity of velocity distribution on the propeller plane. This study intended to evaluate these functions and to find optimized FCF form for minimizing viscous resistance and equalizing wake distribution. Four parameters of FCF are used in the study, which were angle and position of FCF, longitudinal location, transverse location, and span length in the optimization process. KRISO 300K VLCC2(KVLCC2) was chosen for an example ship to demonstrate FCF for optimization. The optimization procedure utilized genetic algorithms (GAs), a gradient-based optimizer for the refinement of the solution, and Non-dominated Sorting GA-II(NSGA-II) for Multiobjective Optimization. The results showed that the optimized FCF could enhance the uniformity of wake distribution at the expense of viscous resistance.
Objectives: This experiment was carried out to elucidate the effect of discharged water on the disinfection of $Phytophthora$$capsici$ and evaluate the water characteristics. Methods: The dielectric barrier discharges (DBD) plasma reactor system used in this study consisted of a plasma component [discharge, ground electrode and quartz dielectric tube], high voltage source, and air supply. The effects of water characteristics such as pH, ORP and conductivity and the disinfection effect of discharged water were investigated. Results: Experimental results showed that in the process of discharge, the pH decreased, whereas ORP and electric conductivity increased. When the discharge time was 30 min, $Phytophthora$$capsici$ of 2.94 log was disinfected within 300 seconds. Disinfection performance of stored discharged water was maintained for three days; however the disinfection effect vanished after five days. When $Phytophthora$$capsici$ was injected into the discharged water, the disinfection effect decreased after two days. Conclusions: It is considered that the main disinfection parameters of the discharged water were chemically active species such as $H_2O_2$ and $O_3$ and high ORP.
A swarm robot system consists of with multiple mobile robots, each of which is called an agent. Each agent interacts with others and cooperates for a given task and a given environment. For the swarm robotic system, the loss of the entire work capability by malfunction or damage to a single robot is relatively small and replacement and repair of the robot is less costly. So, it is suitable to perform more complex tasks. The essential component for a swarm robotic system is an inter-robot collaboration strategy for teamwork. Recently, the swarm intelligence theory is applied to robotic system domain as a new framework of collective robotic system design. In this paper, FA (Firefly Algorithm) which is based on firefly's reaction to the lights of other fireflies and their social behavior is employed to optimize the group behavior of multiple robots. The main application of the firefly algorithm is performed on path planning of swarm mobile robots and its effectiveness is verified by simulations under various conditions.
A steam generator (SG) tube is an important component of a nuclear power plant (NPP). It works as a pressure boundary between the primary and secondary systems. The integrity of a SG tube can be assessed by an eddy current test every outage. The eddy current technique(adopting a bobbin probe) is currently the main technique used to assess the integrity of the tubing of a steam generator. An eddy current signal analyst for steam generator tubes continuously analyzes data over a given period of time. However, there are possibilities that the analyst conducting the test may get tired and cause mistakes, such as: missing indications or not being able to separate a true defect signal from one that is more complicated. This error could lead to confusion and an improper interpretation of the signal analysis. In order to avoid these possibilities, many countries of opted for automated analyses. Axial ODSCC (outside diameter stress corrosion cracking) defects on the tubes of OPR1000 steam generators have been found on the tube that are in contract with tube support plates. In this study, automated analysis software called CDS (computer data screening) made by Zetec was used. This paper will discuss the results of introducing an automated analysis system for an axial ODSCC on the tubes of an OPR1000 steam generator.
Researching in text detection and segmentation has been done for a long period in the OCR area. However, there is some other area that the text detection and segmentation from images can be very useful. In this report, we first propose the design of a mobile translator system which helps non-native speakers to understand the foreign language using ubiquitous mobile network and camera mobile phones. The main focus of the paper will be the algorithm in detecting and segmenting texts embedded in the natural scenes from taken images. The image, which is captured by a camera mobile phone, is transmitted to a translator server. It is initially passed through some preprocessing processes to smooth the image as well as suppress noises. A threshold is applied to binarize the image. Afterward, an edge detection algorithm and connected component analysis are performed on the filtered image to find edges and segment the components in the image. Finally, the pre-defined layout relation constraints are utilized in order to decide which components likely to be texts in the image. A preliminary experiment was done and the system yielded a recognition rate of 94.44% on a set of 36 various natural scene images that contain texts.
Functional Modeling methodology, IDEF0 is widely used for modeling, analysis and description of enterprise system. The limitation of modeling components restricts applicability and give rise to confusion about model. In this paper, we propose new method to extend IDEF0. The first is adding modeling components which are semantic representations. In addition to ICOMs, we add the time and cost component which is required to execute the function. The second is tracing mechanism. When we need some information, we drive the functions related with the information by reverse tracing of the function which produces the information as a output and input. Through the tracing, we find out the bottleneck process or high cost process. Finally, we suggest the final decomposition level. We call the final decomposed function into unit function which has only one output data. We can combine and reconstruct some of functions because an unit function is similar to ‘lego block’. To reach the integrated system, the main problem to be solved is the integration of information produced by different functional subsystem. This can be resolved when the creation of data must be dependent on only one function. Through view integration of function output, we can guarantee the integrity of data.
Dynamic textures are videos that exhibit a stationary property with respect to time (i.e., they have patterns that repeat themselves over a large number of frames). These patterns can easily be tracked by a linear dynamic system. In this paper, a model that identifies the underlying linear dynamic system using wavelet coefficients, rather than a raw sequence, is proposed. Content based threshold filtering based on Set Partitioning in a Hierarchical Tree (SPIHT) helps to get another representation of the same frames that only have low frequency components. The main idea of this paper is to apply SPIHT based threshold filtering on different bands of wavelet transform so as to have more significant information in fewer parameters for singular value decomposition (SVD). In this case, more flexibility is given for the component selection, as SVD is independently applied to the different bands of frames of a dynamic texture. To minimize the time complexity, the proposed model is implemented on a graphics processing unit (GPU). Test results show that the proposed dynamic system, along with a discrete wavelet and SPIHT, achieve a highly compact model with better visual quality, than the available LDS, Fourier descriptor model, and higher-order SVD (HOSVD).
Recently seaweed polysaccharides have been extensively studied for alternative energy application. Because their producing cost is high and efficiency low, their industrial applications have been limited. The main component of cell wall of red algae represented by Gelidiales and Gracilariales is agar. Red-algae agar or galactan, consisting of D-galactose and 3, 6-anhydro-L-galactose, is suitable for bio-product application if hydrolyzed to monomer unit. For the hydrolysis of algae, chemical or enzymatic treatment can be used. A chemical process using a strong acid is simple and efficient, but it generates together with target sugar and toxic compounds. In an enzymatic hydrolysis process, target sugar without toxic compounds generation. The objective of this review is to summary the recent data of saccharification by chemical and enzymatic means from red seaweed for especially focused on automobile industry.
The appearance of white striations over breast meat is an emerging and growing problem. The main purpose of this study was to employ the reflectance of visible-near infrared (VIS/NIR) spectroscopy to differentiate between normal and white striped turkey breasts. Accordingly, 34 turkey breast fillets were selected representing a different level of white striping (WS) defects (normal, moderate and severe). The findings of VIS/NIR were analyzed by principal component (PC1) analysis (PCA). It was found that the first PC1 for VIS, NIR and VIS/NIR region explained 98%, 97%, and 96% of the total variation, respectively. PCA showed high performance to differentiate normal meat from abnormal meat (moderate and severe WS). In conclusion, the results of this research showed that VIS/NIR spectroscopy was satisfactory to differentiate normal from severe WS turkey fillets by using several quality traits.
This paper analyzes functions of component parts of D-Urban Railway's door system along with operation obstacle risks on frequency(the number of occurrences/year) and severity(delay time/the number of occurrences). Based on this, the paper presents improvements and current system's problems after obstacle risks of EMU and door system are appled. The obstacle of door system causes corrosion of main parts such as DCU due to heat problem of operation environment, problems of maintenance methods and deterioration. DCUs on PCBs with more than 50% pattern corrosion cause problems. Even though the number of door system's obstacle occurrences for the last 5 years is 42, along with 104 minutes of operation obstacle, EMU operation obstacle risk is low(Level 1), which indicates there is limit in matrix of railway risks presented by the standard of railway safety management system. Therefore, it is necessary to have railway risk matrix suitable for the field. Finally, the paper deducts the obstacle risks through frequency and severity. Since 2017 when the risks of EMU and door system's obstacle, that of EMU has been 24(47% reduced) and that of door system has been average 9.5 per year(23% reduced).
