The extreme steam temperature deviation experienced in the superheater of a tangentially fired boiler can seriously affect its economic and safe operation. This temperature deviation is one of the main causes of boiler tube failures. The steam temperature deviation is mainly due to the thermal load deviation in the lateral direction of the superheater. The thermal load deviation consists of several causes. One of the causes is the non-uniform heat flow distribution of burnt gas on the superheater tube system. This distribution is very difficult to measure in situ using direct experimental techniques. So, we need thermal load model to estimate the tube temperature. In this paper, we propose a thermal load distribution model by using CFD analysis and plant data. We successfully predict the tube temperature and the steam flow rate in a final superheater system from the thermal load model and one dimensional heat-flow system analysis. The proposed model and analysis method would be valuable in preventing the frequent tube failure of the final superheater tubes.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the economic feasibility of domestic on-site steam methane reforming (SMR) hydrogen refueling stations. We evaluated the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) for the SMR hydrogen refueling stations, which have production capacities of 100 kg/day (SMR 100), 200 kg/day (SMR 200), and 500 kg/day (SMR 500) utilizing the scale factor. The main results indicated that the LCOH of SMR 100, SMR 200, and SMR 500 were 14,367 won/kg, 11,122 won/kg, and 8,157 won/kg, if the utilizations of hydrogen stations were 70%. These results imply that the production capacity of the domestic SMR hydrogen station should be greater than 500 kg/day to compete with other hydrogen stations when we consider the current sale price of hydrogen at the hydrogen stations.

The objective of this study was to perform failure analysis of an inlet pipe located in a governor valve of a steam turbine in a district heating system. During the operation, the temperature of the governor valve was increased to as high as ~500 ℃, which induced thermal expansion of the inlet pipe along both axial and radial directions. While the inlet pipe did not have contact with the valve seat, the side plane of the upside was constrained by the casing part, which led the inlet pipe to experience stress field in the form of fatigue and creep. The primary crack was initiated at about 30 mm below the top where the complex stress field was anticipated. These results suggest that the main failure mechanism is a combination of thermal fatigue and creep during the operation supported by the observation of apparent beach marks on the fracture surface and pores near the cracks, respectively.
This study is experimentally investigated the effects of various steam curing parameters on the early-age compressive strength development of high strength concrete (over 40 MPa) in the precast plant production. High strength concrete are used only ordinary portland cement (type I) and water-cement ratio selected 3cases (25%, 35% and 45%). Also, steam curing parameters are as followings ; (1) Preset period 2cases (3 hours and 6 hours) (2) Maximum curing temperature 3cases ($45^{\circ}C$, $55^{\circ}C$ and $65^{\circ}C$) (3) Maintenance time of curing temperature 3cases (4 hours, 6 hours and 8 hours) (4) Maximum rate of heating and cooling $15^{\circ}C$/hr. Initial setting time and adiabatic temperature rising ratio of these concrete according to water-cement ratio are tested before main tests and examined the compressive strength development for the steam curing parameters. Also compressive strength are compared with optimum steam curing condition and standard curing at test ages. As test results, the optimum steam curing conditions for high strength concrete(over 40 MPa) are as followings. (1) Preset period ; over initial setting time of concrete (2) Maximum curing temperature ; bellow $55^{\circ}C$ (3) Maintenance time of curing temperature ; bellow 6hours. Also strength development of steam curing concrete show in the reversed strength at 28 days. It is to propose an efficient steam curing condition for high strength concrete in the precast method.
The purpose of this study is to provide basic data that can be used in a reasonable assessment of the learning outcomes of STEAM. It presented a learning outcome evaluation method, relative weights of key competencies standard that a learner should cultivate. For this study, a pairwise comparison questionnaire about the key competencies was conducted on the STEAM professionals, and AHP was applied to analyze the priority of main factors of key competencies. The results of this study are as follows. First, the importance of capabilities of convergence accomplishment and capabilities of convergent cognition, in the first layer of key competencies, were 39.4% and 36.8%, respectively. In the education evaluation of the STEAM, capabilities of convergence accomplishment and capabilities of convergent cognition showed similar level of importance, and were considered more important factor than capabilities of convergence attitude (23.8%). Second, the relative importance of capabilities of problem solving (20.0%) was highest in the second layer of key competencies, and followed by capabilities of creative thinking (18.3%), responsibility (15.3%), and understanding convergence knowledge (11.0%). Third, it will be a foundation of a competency evaluation, which reasonably evaluates, based on the relative weights, whether to accomplish educational objectives of the STEAM program In addition, this results is expected to become a guide to develop an education program that can improve the teaching and learning process and raise the learning outcome, as well as an education evaluation of the STEAM.
Strictly maintaining the steam temperature can be difficult due to heating value variation to the fuel source, time delay changes in the main steam temperature, the change of the dynamic characteristics in the reheater. Up to the present time, PID Controller has been used to operate this system. However, it is very difficult to achieve an optimal PID gain with no experience, since the gain of the PID controller has to be manually tuned by trial and error. This paper focuses on tuning of the Controller with disturbance rejection for thermal power plant using immune based multiobjective approach. An ITSE(Integral of time weighted squared error) is used to decide performance of tuning results.
Piping and equipment are degraded by flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) in nuclear power plants. FAC causes numerous problems and nuclear utilities maintain programs to control FAC. The key parameters influencing FAC are hydrodynamic conditions, water chemistry, and effect of materials. Recently, a nuclear utility has planned slight power uprates in Korea. Operating conditions need to be changed in the secondary system according to power uprates. This study analyzed the effect of wall-thinning caused by power uprates. The change of operation data in the secondary cycle is reviewed, and wall-thinning rates are analyzed in the main lines. As a result, two phase (mixture of water and steam) lines have a greater impact than a water line under power uprate conditions. Also, the quality of steam is the most important factor for FAC in two phase lines.
This paper describes the improvement of thermal power plant turbine control system by analyzing nonlinear characteristics. The turbine control depends on the frequency variation and boiler condition. The nonlinearity of turbine control is the result of governor/valve properties, steam condition and boiler thermal unbalance. Nonlinear analysis is divided into two; main steam valve position - turbine output anal governor response. Of course, every analysis must be done on considering plant operating condition. In this paper, after analyzing turbine control nonlinearity by numerical method and actual results, the sensitive operating load which corresponds to frequency is proposed, on guarranteed boiler stability. This idea is implemented at Pyung Tack thermal power plant, and the practical results are showed.
Accident diagnosis is one of the complex tasks for nuclear power plant (NPP) operators. In abnormal or emergency situations, the diagnostic activity of the NPP states is burdensome though necessary. Numerous computer-based methods and operator support systems have been suggested to address this problem. Among them, the recurrent neural network (RNN) has performed well at analyzing time series data. This study proposes an algorithm for accident diagnosis using long short-term memory (LSTM), which is a kind of RNN, which improves the limitation for time reflection. The algorithm consists of preprocessing, the LSTM network, and postprocessing. In the LSTM-based algorithm, preprocessed input variables are calculated to output the accident diagnosis results. The outputs are also postprocessed using softmax to determine the ranking of accident diagnosis results with probabilities. This algorithm was trained using a compact nuclear simulator for several accidents: a loss of coolant accident, a steam generator tube rupture, and a main steam line break. The trained algorithm was also tested to demonstrate the feasibility of diagnosing NPP accidents.
This paper deals with a study on improvement of long-time creep life prediction of steam turbine rotor steels by using initial strain method as a new approach at high temperatures of 500 to 70$0^{\circ}C$ . The main result shows that the inital strain method could be reliably utilized to predict and evaluate the long-time creep life as creep rupture strength and that the predicting equation for long-time creep life under a certain creep stress at a certain high temperature could be empirically derived out from each initial instantaneous strain measured.
