The revitalization of e-business via Internet brings big changes to the postal business, and leads to a tremendous increase of heavy and large sized postal mails with continuing growth of home delivery business. Thus, even though the number of intermediate storages for mail delivery that mailmen use for picking up mails in the middle of mail delivery has been being increased, it has still many problems such as insufficient number and size of the storages as well as avoidance of mail keeping of trust agents. It is necessary that safety of mail keeping, seamless mail delivery, and individual parcel pick-up process reestablishment should be made through an improved counter plan for the problems described previously. This study presents the efficient and right operational plan for the intermediate storage for mail delivery with providing the number and size of intermediate storages per mail delivery sequence according to four different types of post offices.

In this study, we develop a method for analyzing business process based on the event-driven process chain (EPC) model. The method consists of five stages such as identifying abnormal events, finding causes for the abnormal events and problems caused by the abnormal events, making cause-and-effect chains, drawing root-cause map, and defining improvement areas. We illustrate how to apply the method with some examples for the domestic registered mail delivery process.

This paper suggests a procedure to define business process improvement (BPI) projects with analysis results based on the cause-and-effect chain. The procedure developed in this paper focuses on eliminating root causes of business problems resulted from abnormal events occurred in business process executions. First, we develop three criteria used to make clusters of the root causes where a cluster of root causes will be eliminated together by a BPI project defined based on the cluster. Second, we develop a method to formulate desired expectations from the BPI project. Also, we suggest a method to calculate the relative importance of the BPI projects that help a BPI organization determine priorities of them. We illustrate the procedure and the methods with some examples for the domestic mail delivery process in the postal service industry.

Visibility of the flow of goods is an important service element when considering how to improve the quality of a logistics service. Registered mail service of Korea Post, one of logistics service providers, currently supply information on the handling of postal items, such as receipts and delivery and arrival times to customers. However, internally problems related to excessive spending on operating expenses and less reliable tracking and tracing information exist due to errors in the information acquisition and link handling processes, leading to unnecessarily duplicated tasks. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose process optimization method for improving the quality of tracking and tracing information for registered mail items. We analyzed the process and information control system of the current registered mail service and identified the basic causes of the existence of less reliable tracking and tracing information. And we present optimized mail handling and information management process for removing internal problems. Test results using tracking and tracing information examples show a significant performance of the proposed method.

본 연구는 오프라인을 기반으로 한 인터넷 쇼핑몰의 유통체계와 상품판매의 공간적 특성을 밝히는 것이 목적이다. 본 사례업체의 유통체계는 크게 메이커에서의 상품 선정과정과 소비자로의 상품 배송과정으로 구분된다. 이는 물류센터의 기능과 역할을 모두 위탁한 결과이다. 또한 오프라인인 백화점과 구별된 물류시스템을 이용하고 있으며 비용절감과 보다 빠른 배송을 위해 배송부문을 택배사에 외부수주하고 있다. 배송권별 상품판매의 특성을 살펴보면 본사가 입지한 배송권에 상품판매가 집중적으로 이루어지는 형태를 보인다. 이는 오프라인을 기반으로한 인터넷 쇼핑몰이 공간의 제약을 완전하게 극복한 통신판매가 아님을 말해 주는 것이다. 또한 지역별 상품 판매에 영향을 미치는 공간적 분포 요인은 20$\sim$49세의 여성인구수와 거리임이 밝혀졌다.

Objective:This study is on the characteristics of motorcycle accidents occurring in the mail delivery process by skill level. Background: The tendency of delivery postmen's driving in a hurry may become the cause of accidents since there is a constraint that delivery should be completed within a limited time. Method: This study analyzed the traffic accident data of 259 delivery postmen, who had been approved as occupation-related industrial accident victims from 2009 to 2012, by their work experience in view of season, day of the week of an accident occurrence, accident occurrence time, accident cause, collision type, and driving situation. Results: Accident characteristics of delivery postmen show that the ratio of accidents occurring to those who had less than 10 years of work experience was high. There were many motorcycle collisions in winter and summer by season and an unexpected object, along with road condition, took up 70.7% of the accident sources. There were no differences in accident occurrence time, the day of the week, season, accident source, and collision type between the group of delivery postmen with less than 10 years of work experience and those with 10 years or more of work experience. However, there was a difference in distribution of driving condition. Conclusion and Applications: The results of this study can be used to present the policies or guidelines for the accident prevention of delivery postmen since the results show the characteristics of the injured and accident occurrence characteristics in relation with the delivery postmen's motorcycle collisions.

초고속 인터넷 망의 확충으로 인터넷을 이용한 정보전달이 보편화되고, 전자우편은 많은 양의 자료를 빠르고 편리하게 송수신 할 수 있는 가장 보편적인 통신 수단이 되었다. 하지만 정크메일의 수신빈도와 그로 인한 피해가 갈수록 높아져 그 문제가 심각한 수준에 이르게 되었다. 더구나 근래의 정크메일은 시스템을 공격하기 위한 바이러스나 해킹 도구를 전파하는 수단으로 이용되어 컴퓨터 침해 사고의 심각한 원인으로 지적되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실제 상황에서 유입되는 정크메일의 로그 분석을 통하여 그 특징을 분석한 후 FQDN 확인과 개인별 격리처리를 이용한 차단 시스템을 구현하였고 성능을 평가하였다.

우편물을 배달순서대로 정렬하는 순로구분의 자동화를 위해서는 우편물에 표기된 주소를 인식해야 하며, 이 과정에서 표준화된 우편주소 데이터베이스는 필수적이다. 우편주소 데이터베이스는 주소인식뿐만 아니라 우편물 정보처리 등 다양한 측면에서 사용 가능하여 우편물 처리의 자동화와 정보화에 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 우편주소 데이터베이스에서의 정보체계 표준을 위한 스키마 및 이에 따른 우편주소파일의 설계 방법과 설계된 스키마에 따른 주소해석 과정 및 방법에 관한 것이다. 주소를 표준화된 형태로 변환하는 데에 필요한 정보를 분석하여 이를 우편주소파일 설계과정에 포함시킴으로써 향후 순로구분 자동화를 위한 한글 주소인식 시스템과 고객 바코드 인증을 위한 주소 데이터베이스 매칭 및 주소검색 시스템에 활용할 수 있도록 하기 위해 우편주소파일을 설계하였다.

We consider a problem of presort and loading of commercial bulk mails in a mailing service. Here, presort is the process by which a mailer prepares mail so that it is sorted to at least the finest extent required by the mailing service provider for the (discounted) price claimed. The problem is formulated as a special type of transportation problem. To solve industrial-sized problems, we develop an efficient heuristic algorithm and perform experimental tests on randomly generated problem instances. Results of the tests show that mailers can save mailing cost much more when they use small-sized mail trays with less frequent mailings. Also, large-sized mailers can obtain much more cost saving than small-sized mailers. In addition, cost saving effect is influenced by delivery area distribution of mails and fluctuation of mailing demand.

This study deals with stockout costs in the supply chain optimization model under the framework of batch-storage network. Stockout is very popular in chemical industries. Estimating stockout cost involves an understanding of customer reactions to a seller being out of stock at the time the customer wants to buy an item. This involves massively non-trivial work such as direct customer interviews and extensive mail survey. In this study, we will introduce a new interpretation of stockout costs combined with batchstorage network optimization model and thus suggest an easy way of estimating stockout costs. Optimization model suggest that optimal process and storage sizes considering stockout cost are smaller than those that do not consider stockout cost. An illustrative example support the analytical results.
