  • Recently, there is an increasing nationwide concern in Korea that exposure to electric and magnetic fields (MF) in the home environment may not be safe in humans. We previously demonstrated that exposure of MF during the entire period of pregnancy did not induce any adverse effects on both pregnant dams and embryo-fetal development in rats.(omitted)

  • The author has established a general equation for the travelling magnetic field in air gap with the end effect taken into consideration, which constitutes the basics for the analysis of characteristics of linear induction motor. This equation is verified by comparison of the experimental values with the theoretically calculated values. The properties of the travelling wave with attenuation, which is contained in the travelling magnetic field of linear induction motor, have been verified, and consequently the practicable equation is established with these effects taken into consideration. This provides the solid foundation for the theoretical analysis of the characteristics of the linear induction motor.

  • Effects of $Ag_2O$ doping on the electromagnetic properties in the BiSrCaCuO superconductor. The electromagnetic properties of doped and undoped $Ag_2O$ in the BiSrCaCuO superconductor were evaluated to investigate the contribution of the pinning centers. It was confirmed experimentally that a larger amount of magnetic flux was trapped in the $Ag_2O$ doped sample than in the undoped one, indicating that the pinning centers of magnetic flux are related closely to the occurrence of the magnetic effect. We have fabricated superconductor ceramics by the chemical process. A high Tc superconductor with a nominal composition of $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y$ was prepared by the organic metal salts method. Experimental results suggest that the intermediate phase formed before the formation of the superconductor phase may be the most important factor. The relation between electromagnetic properties of Bi HTS and the external applied magnetic field was studied. The electrical resistance of the superconductor was increased by the application of the external magnetic field. But the increase in the electrical resistance continues even after the removal of the magnetic field. The reason is as follows; the magnetic flux due to the external magnetic field penetrates through the superconductor and the penetrated magnetic flux is trapped after the removal of the magnetic flux. During the sintering, doped $Ag_2O$ was converted to Ag particles that were finely dispersed in superconductor samples. It is considered that the area where normal conduction takes place increases by adding $Ag_2O$ and the magnetic flux penetrating through the sample increases. The results suggested that $Ag_2O$ acts to amplify pinning centers of magnetic flux, contributing to the occurrence of the electromagnetic properties.

  • The influence of magnetic fields on chemical processes has long been the subject of interest to researchers. For this time numerous investigations show that commonly the effect of a magnetic field on chemical reactions is insignificant with impact less than 10 percent. However, there are some papers that point to the observation of external magnetic field effect on chemical and biochemical systems actually having a significant impact on the reactions. Thus, of great interest is an active search for rather simple but realistic models, that are based on physically explicit assumptions and able to account for a strong effect of low magnetic fields. The present work theoretically deals with two models explaining how an applied weak magnetic field might influence the steady state of a non-equilibrium chemical system. It is assumed that external magnetic field can have effect on the rates of radical reactions occurring in a system. This, in turn, leads to bifurcation of the nonequilibrium stationary state and, thus, to a drastic change in the properties of chemical systems (temperature and reagent concentration).

  • This paper analyzed the magnetic field produced by the cylindrical stator coils of permanent magnet spherical motor (PMSM). The elliptic equations about the vector magnetic potential were given. Given that the eddy current effects are neglected, the magnet field of the PMSM is regarded as irrotational field, which can be calculated by scalar magnetic potential. The current density of cylindrical stator coil was proposed based on the definition of current density. The expression of current density of stator coil was obtained according to the double Fourier series decomposition and spherical harmonic functions. Then the magnetic flux density for scalar magnetic potential was derived. Further, the influence of different parameters on radial flux density was also analyzed. Finally, the results by the analytical method in this paper were validated by finite element analysis (FEA).

  • We use two-dimensional high-resolution MHD simulations to investigate the effects of magnetic fields on the formation and evolution of such substructures as well as on the mass inflow rates to the galaxy center. We find that there exists an outermost x1-orbit relative to which gaseous responses to an imposed stellar bar potential are completely different between inside and outside. Inside this orbit, gas is shocked into dust lanes and infalls to form a nuclear ring. Magnetic fields are compressed in dust lanes, reducing their peak density. Magnetic stress removes further angular momentum of the gas at the shocks and leads to a smaller and more centrally distributed ring, resulting in the mass inflow rates larger, by more than two orders of magnitude, than in the unmagnetized counterparts. Outside the outermost x1-orbit, on the other hand, an MHD dynamo operates near the corotation and bar-end regions, efficiently amplifying magnetic fields. The amplified fields shape into trailing magnetic arms with strong fields and low density. The base of the magnetic arms have a thin layer in which magnetic fields with opposite polarity reconnect via a tearing-mode instability. This produces numerous magnetic islands with large density which propagate along the arms to turn the outer disk into a highly chaotic state.

  • An internal finishing process by the application of magnetic abrasive machining has been developed as a new technology to obtain a fine inner surface of pipe. In this paper, another method of magnetic abrasive machining in which the N and S magnetic poles are vibrated and a workpiece is rotated only is tried in a non-ferromagnetic pipe(SUS304), and its finishing characteristics is experimental results, it is found that the vibration effects of magnetic poles on the finishing characteristics are large in internal finishing.

  • The advantages of the Magnetic Fluid Linear Pump(MFLP) is that this device could Pump the non-conductive. non-magnetic liquid such as Insulin or blood because of the segregation structure of the magnetic fluid and pumping liquid. In this device. the sequential currents are needed to Produce pumping forces so that Pumping Forces and Pumping speed mainly depend on the current Patterns. The excessive forces at Pumping moment could cause the medical shock, and weak forces at intermediate moment could cause the back flow or the pumping liquid. So the ripples of the pumping forces need to be reduced for the medical application. In this research, the driving characteristics in the MFLP by operating current is analysed. The change of magnetic fluid surface according to the driving currents could be obtained be magneto-hydrodynamic analysis so that Pumping fortes could be computed by integration of the surface moving to the pumping direction at each moment. The actual MFLP with 13mm diameter was made and tested for experiments. The effects of driving current and frequency on the pumping forces and pumping speed were analyzed and compared with experimental measurements.

  • Magnetic seal uses a magnetic fluid to seal a gap between a rotating shaft and housing. It is distinguished from other kinds of seals from the fact that solid contact does not occur in the seal. This implies that it is free from solid rubbing thus dustless and provides a clean circumstance. That is the reason why the magnetic seal is used exclusively for most of vacuum chambers in semiconductor process where dustless clean circumstance is critical. A magnetic seal has been developed of which design parameters are determined based on published data, and an air pressure test has been done to examine its sealing capability. Effects of some design parameters have been studied through FEM analysis. The results show some notable aspects of design parameters and provide suggestions for developing the seals. Regarding the sealing capacity of the magnetic seal the factor to match the theoretical value with the actual one was found to be 0.4~0.7, which means still there is some discrepancy between theory and actual.
