  • The purpose of this study is to establish an appropriate protocol for breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the discipline of image quality standards. The intention of the protocol is to increase effectiveness of medical image information exchange involved in construction, activation, and exchange of clinical information for healthcare.

  • As the technologies such as middle-range resonant WPT (wireless power transfer) advance that utilizes medium and low-frequency magnetic field, the importance of safety of such magnetic field is growing. The research on the effect of electromagnetic field on the human body has been mainly done on the GHz range of mobile phones, or 50~60Hz range of electric power systems. However, there has been relatively few works on the 100kHz~10MHz range used in the resonant wireless power transfer. Since there is a difference in the limiting value of magnetic field between widely used ICNIRP EMF guideline and IEEE C95.1 standard, there can be possible confusion when establishing EMF (Electromagnetic Field) standard on the wireless power transfer device in the future. In this paper, the induced current in the human body, which is the basic restriction of the EMF guideline, is calculated using Quasi-static FDTD method when 3D high-resolution human model is exposed to the 100kHz~10MHz magnetic field. Using this result, the feasibility of the magnetic field reference level in the ICNIRP guideline is analyzed.

A Study on High Current Rectifier Systems with Mitigated Time-Varying Magnetic Field Generation

  • This paper investigates occupational exposure to time-varying magnetic field generation in high power rectifier systems. Two different kinds of high power rectifier systems of 25kA are modeled and analyzed. The performance is compared and evaluated on the basis of exposure guidelines from ICNIRP. In order to focus on the qualitative effect of rectifier operation, the mechanical structure of current carrying conductors is simplified as infinite long bus-bar model and low frequency harmonic contents up to 65kHz are considered. Thyristor rectifier generates a significant amount of low frequency magnetic field harmonic contents both at ac and dc side of rectifier infringing the limit from ICNIRP. The multilevel rectifier-IGCT type has almost negligible field generation from ac input side and smaller harmonic contents in dc load side complying with ICNIRP guideline. This remarkable advantage of multilevel rectifier-IGCT type can lead to very simple site layout design for installation and cost-effective compliance to guideline of occupational exposure against magnetic field.

A Vision Based Guideline Interpretation Technique for AGV Navigation (AGV 운행을 위한 비전기반 유도선 해석 기술)

  • AGVs are more and more utilized nowadays and magnetic guided AGVs are most widely used because their system has low cost and high speed. But this type of AGVs requires high infrastructure building cost and has poor flexibility of navigation path layout changing. Thus it is hard to applying this type of AGVs to a small quantity batch production system or a cooperative production system with many AGVs. In this paper, we propose a vision based guideline interpretation technique that uses the cheap, easily installable and changeable color tapes (or paint) as a guideline. So a vision-based AGV with color tapes is effectively applicable to the production systems. For easy setting and changing of AGV navigation path, we suggest an automatic method for interpreting a complex guideline layout including multi-branches and joins of branches. We also suggest a trace direction decision method for stable navigation of AGVs. Through several real-time navigation tests with an industrial AGV installed with the suggested technique, we confirmed that the technique is practically and stably applicable to real industrial field.

  • Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is widely used in many areas of cardiovascular disease assessment. This is a practical, standard CMR protocol for beginners that is designed to be easy to follow and implement. This protocol guideline is based on previously reported CMR guidelines and includes sequence terminology used by vendors, essential MR physics, imaging planes, field strength considerations, MRI-conditional devices, drugs for stress tests, various CMR modules, and disease/symptom-based protocols based on a survey of cardiologists and various appropriate-use criteria. It will be of considerable help in planning and implementing tests. In addressing CMR usage and creating this protocol guideline, we particularly tried to include useful tips to overcome various practical issues and improve CMR imaging. We hope that this document will continue to standardize and simplify a patient-based approach to clinical CMR and contribute to the promotion of public health.

Development of mobile vehicle designed by the guideline of wall-climbing mobile robot using permanent magnetic wheels (영구자석바퀴를 이용한 벽면 이동로봇의 설계치침에 의한 이동체 개발)

  • The attachment of mobile vehicle is necessary for the automated operation on the inclined or vertical walls of steel structures. Since the vehicle requires attaching devices additionally, its overall efficiency can be reduced by the devices. Therefore, external shapes of mobile vehicles have to be researched to give the effective movement on the vertical face. For the design of mobile vehicle, the guideline has been derived from the modeling of wall-climbing, so that the vehicle should have a specific external shape for vertical movement due to the gravitational force. Hence, some adequate arrangement of attaching device to the mobile vehicle has been presented for the effective movement. In the experiments with four permanent magnetic wheels, a plausible result was achieved as a vertical attaching force of 185.2(N), a friction force of 153.8(N) and a curvature radius of 1.4m. The mobile vehicle should be modified according to the proposed design guideline. and then it could be applied to a specific operation as an appropriate external shape. Also, Further research is recommended on an optimal posture and a moving method in a specific application. as the attaching force ortho vehicle can be affected by its posture.

  • To reduce a high fault current, neutral ground reactors (NGR) were installed in the Korean substation. Current with several harmonic components flows in a NGR due to load unbalance in normal steady state and magnetic fields with several harmonic components are also generated around a NGR. As results of study, we found magnetic fields around a NGR in Korean substation included two harmonics, 180Hz and 540Hz. Magnetic fields of 180 Hz increased 3 times more current density inside a worker near a NGR than same magnitude magnetic fields of 60 Hz. We know a worker near a NGR may not meet ICNIRP guideline of 10(mA/$m^2$) due to several harmonic components.

  • Most tasks of the large vertical or ceiling structures have been carried out by human power. Those tasks require us much operation costs and times, safety devices, etc. So the need of automation for those tasks have been rising. That automation needs a wall-climbing mobile vehicle. Most former researches are things about attachment devices and moving mechanisms. A wall-climbing mobile vehicle must be designed by a method different from the case of the vehicle of the horizontal environment. That is because gravity acts as a negative role on the stability of a wall-climbing vehicle. In this thesis, the particular shape characteristics of a wall-climbing mobile vehicle are derived by the wall-environment modeling. In addition, some design constraints of the permanent magnetic wheel as an attachment device was studied. According to those requirements and constraints, one specific wall-climbing mobile vehicle was designed and some experiments were made on the attachment ability of that vehicle.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for neuropathic pain

  • Noninvasive stimulation of the nervous system for treating chronic neuropathic pain has received attention because of its tolerability and relative efficacy. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a representative method of noninvasive brain stimulation. Evidence-based guidelines on therapeutic use of rTMS have been proposed recently for several neurological diseases. These guidelines recommend treating neuropathic pain by applying high-frequency (≥ 5 Hz) rTMS to the primary motor cortex contralateral to the painful side. This review summarizes the mechanisms and guidelines of rTMS for treating neuropathic pain, and proposes directions for future research.
