Analysis of the Bird-cage Receiver Coil of a MRI System Employing a Equivalent Circuit Model Based on a Transmission Matrix (전송행렬 기반 등가 회로 모델을 이용한 자기공명영상 장치용 새장형 수신 코일 해석)

  • A novel analytic solution has been derived for the bird-cage receiver coil of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, which is widely used in 3-dimensional medical imaging, by transforming the coil into an equivalent circuit model by using a transmission matrix-based circuit analysis. The bird-cage coil composed of N legs is divided into a cell for which input impedance is to be analyzed and the remaining N-1 cells, and then a transmission matrix corresponding to the N-1 cells is converted into a circuit to transform the 3-dimensional bird-cage coil into the 2-dimensional equivalent circuit model, which is suitable to derive the analytic solution for the input impedance. The proposed method derives directly the analytic solution for the input impedance at an arbitrary point of the coil unlike the conventional analytic solution of a bird-cage coil, so that it can be used not only for resonance frequency calculations but also for various coil characteristics analyses. Since the analytic solution agreed well with the results of computational simulations, it can be useful for the impedance matching of a coil and the analysis and the design of a multi-tune bird-cage coil.

  • The attraction force is an important parameter for permanent-magnet(PM) linear machines. This paper aims to analysis lumped magnetic circuit model of a magnetic levitation system. It accounts for the fringing effect and leakage flux which may greatly affect the accuracy of the analytical model for the optimal lumped magnetic circuit model. consequentially it will be able to apply to prospective permanent-magnet(PM) linear machines for accurate analysis.

  • To design the Molded Case Circuit Breaker(MCCB) requires electromagnetic analysis in contact system when the circuit breakers interrupt fault currents. This paper has made sure that there are two ways increasing arc driving force, one is a change of contact point and the other way inserts additionally the magnetic plate. Finally, we have carried out the analysis of eddy current to identify a decrease of arc driving force because of fault currents. In this paper, MCCB models have been analyzed base on 3D-FEM by Maxwell program.

  • 2D analysis is impossible for Hybrid stepping motor(HSM) and 3D analysis is necessary because the permanent magnet is magnetized to the axial direction. In this paper, the characteristics of HSM are analyzed by using 3D equivalent magnetic circuit network method(3D EMCNM). In addition, the trapezoidal element is introduced for the exact permeance calculation in the complex shape machinery such as HSM. The magnetic saturation of core is considered.

  • In this paper, a new type of permanent magnetic actuator (PMA) with multi-stage coils is proposed. Although the conventional type of PMA has many advantages, it cannot be applied in the high voltage circuit breakers due to its short stoke length. The new type of PMA has long stroke length by using multi-stage coils, so it can be applied as an actuator for the high voltage circuit breakers. Dynamic characteristics are calculated by the finite element method (FEM), equation of electric circuit and dynamic equation. The position of plunger and the current of coils in case of the actuator applied in 38kV, 40kA vacuum circuit breaker are presented.

  • A claw pole stepping motor is widely used in various fields such as a compact optical disk drive, computer peripherals, digital cameras, office automation(OA), handheld mobile devices, because it has the suitable structure for compact motor. However 3D analysis is essential for design of Claw pole stepping motor because of axial flux path. Thus, in general, it takes a lot of time in the design of Claw pole motor. In this paper, magnetic equivalent circuit considering axial flux was proposed to reduce design time of Claw pole motor and we has designed by using the magnetic equivalent circuit. In addition, in oder to verify the study, design model was verified by 3D FEM simulation and experiment.

  • This paper deals with inductance profile of linear switched reluctance motor. Inductance profile of LSRM calculate at align and unalign position using magnetic equivalent circuit method. Magnetic equivalent circuit method of this paper used method of reference[3],[4], but this method used modification on account difference of design specification Also, analysis result compares with data that is derived through an experiment, and proved validity.

  • With the development of micro -technology, the demand for micro actual ing device is increasing. But, it is difficult to achieve high resolution and wide bandwidth with the conventional contact systems. So, the contact-free systems which are suspended or levitated by magnetic force or air bearing were proposed. These systems can be applied to high precision stages and alignment apparatuses. This paper describes a magnetically suspended system with four degrees of freedom which are composed of three rotations (roll, pitch, yaw), and one translation ( z). The operating principle and the structure of the system are similar to variable reluctance type electric machines. In this study, the force analysis is executed using magnetic circuit and virtual work principle, and the equations that describe the dynamics of the system are presented. The multivariable PID controller is adapted to the system and the experiment is executed.

  • This paper describes axial magnetic field characteristics of multipolar axial magnetic field type electrodes for vacuum interrupter used in vacuum circuit breaker. It was distinguished that axial magnetic field distribution in consideration of eddy current effect between electrodes by finite element method. Throughout experiment of magnetic field measurement, confirmed validity of numericla analysis.

  • In this paper, design and performance analysis of switched reluctance motor(SRM) according to shape of its magnetic circuit are researched. The parameters which are sensitive to the performance are examined and selected to have good performances. Some effective guide lines to have a good performance motor are suggested. Prototype machines are constructed to compare with the simulated and tested results.
