  • The aim of this work is to compare the microstructure, the texture, of an AZ31 Mg alloy processed via cold rolling process. Initial AZ31 Mg alloy sheet samples with strong {0002} texture were cut along the angles of 12.5 and 25 degrees to normal direction (ND). These specimens were rolled in room temperature condition. The microstructure was characterized by optical microscopy and the texture was measured by X-ray diffraction.

Magnesium intake and dietary sources among Koreans: findings from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2016-2019

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Magnesium is an essential nutrient for human health. However, inadequate intake is commonly reported worldwide. Along with reduced consumption of vegetables and fruits and increased consumption of refined or processed foods, inadequate magnesium intake is increasingly reported as a serious problem. This study aimed to assess magnesium intake, its dietary sources, and the adequacy of magnesium intake in Korean populations. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Data was obtained from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2016-2019 and included individuals aged ≥1 yr who had participated in a nutrition survey (n=28,418). Dietary intake was assessed by 24-h recall, and dietary magnesium intake was estimated using a newly established magnesium database. Diet adequacy was evaluated by comparing dietary intake with the estimated average requirement (EAR) suggested in the Korean Dietary Reference Intakes 2020. RESULTS: The mean dietary magnesium intake of Koreans aged ≥1 yr was 300.4 mg/d, which was equivalent to 119.8% of the EAR. The prevalence of individuals whose magnesium intake met the EAR was 56.8%. Inadequate intake was observed more in females, adolescents and young adults aged 12-29 yrs, elders aged ≥65 yrs, and individuals with low income. About four-fifths of the daily magnesium came from plant-based foods, and the major food groups contributing to magnesium intake were grains (28.3%), vegetables (17.6%), and meats (8.4%). The top 5 individual foods that contributed to magnesium intake were rice, Baechu (Korean cabbage) kimchi, tofu, pork, and milk. However, the contribution of plant foods and individual contributing food items differed slightly by sex and age groups. CONCLUSIONS: This study found that the mean dietary magnesium intake among Koreans was above the recommended intake, whereas nearly one in 2 Koreans had inadequate magnesium intake. To better understand the status of magnesium intake, further research is required, which includes the intake of dietary supplements.

  • Magnesium ($Mg^{2+}$) plays an important role in the regulation of a range of intracellular processes. Regulation of extracellular $Mg^{2+}$ contents was studied in the anesthetized Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Animals were injected intraperitoneally with sodium nitrite ($NaNO_2$), and circulating $Mg^{2+}$($[Mg^{2+}]c$) was measured after the injection and then 10 and 20 minutes later. A dose-dependent increase in $[Mg^{2+}]c$ was observed in animals injected with $NaNO_2$ at a dose of 10mg/kg or higher. Pretreatment with methylene blue prevented the $NaNO_2$-induced increase in $[Mg^{2+}]c$. $[Mg^{2+}]c$ displayed an inverse linear correlation with hemoglobin and exponential correlation during $NaNO_2$ injection. Injection of KCN or rotenone also induced an increase in $[Mg^{2+}]c$. An increase in $[Mg^{2+}]c$ was observed when respiration rate was reduced from 100/min (140ml/min) to 10/min (14ml/min) during 30 min. These results indicate that changes in $[Mg^{2+}]c$ inversely reflect alteration of ATP in a model of metabolic inhibition.

서울지역 수유부의 모유의 수유기간별 칼슘, 인, 마그네슘 함량에 관한 연구 (A Longitudinal Study on Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium Contents of Breast Milk from Lactating Women in Seoul Area)

  • 한국인 수유부의 분만 후 0.5개월부터 1,2,3,4,5개월째의 6단계로 나누어 16명의 동일인을 대상으로 모유의 무기질 함량을 초산부와 경산부로 나누어 측정한 결과 모유 100ml중 회분함량은 초산부 0.22g, 경산부 0.22g이며, 칼슘 함량은 초산부 27.36mg,경산부 27.11mg, 인 함량은 초산부 14.94mg 경산부가 14.25mg, 마그네슘 함량은 초산부2.92mg, 경산부 2.54mg이었으며 회분, 칼슘, 인, 마그네슘 함량 모두 초산부와 경산부 간에 유의한 차이가 없었으며, 수유기간이 경과함에 따라 칼슘, 인, 마그네슘 함량은 유의하게 증가하였다(p<0.001)반면에 마그네슘 함량은 유의하게 증가하였다(p<0.001). 모유의 Ca/P의 비율은 초산부 1.86:1, 경산부가 1.92:1, t식이의 Ca/P의 비율은 0.50:1이었다. 수유부의 섭취식이와 모유의 Ca, P과의 상관성은 없었다.

Corrosion protection behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloy with cathodic electrophoretic coating pretreated by cerium based conversion coatings at various pH

  • The corrosion protection behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloy (Mg alloy) with cathodic electrophoretic coating (E-coating) pretreated by cerium-based conversion coatings at various pH was investigated in this study. Cerium-based conversion coatings (CeCCs) were deposited on AZ31 Mg alloy by immersion treatment in the nitrate-based cerium salt solution. The morphology and composition of the CeCCs were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The corrosion properties of the AZ31 Mg alloy pretreated with cerium coating and subsequently E-coated were studied during salt-spray testing. The surface morphologies of the E-coated Mg alloy were examined in detail after different testing times using digital photography. It was found that the protective properties of the E-coating on AZ31 Mg alloy generated are heavily dependent upon the CeCC factors such as treatment time, coating thickness and pH of the solution.

메타카올린 혼합 시멘트 경화체의 황산마그네슘 침식 및 성능저하 모드 (Magnesium Sulfate Attack and Deterioration Mode of Metakaolin Blended Cement Matrix)

  • 본 연구는 메타카올린을 혼합한 시멘트 경화체의 황산마그네슘 침식 저항성을 평가하며, 관련 성능저하 모드를 고찰하기 위하여 수행되었다. 메타카올린의 대체율을 4단계로 조절하여 모르타르를 제조하였으며, 두 종류 황산마그네슘 용액 (0.424% 및 4.24% $MgSO_4$)에 360일 동한 침지한 후 재령별 외관조사 및 선형팽창 정도를 모니터링하였다. 아울러, XRD, DSC 및 SEM/EDS와 같은 기기분석 기법을 이용하여 황산마그네슘 용액에 침지한 메타카올린 혼합 시멘트페이스트 중에 생성된 반응생성물 조사 및 미세구조 분석을 실시하였다. 본 실험에서 수행한 실험 결과에 의하면, 메타카올린의 대체율이 증가할수록 모르타르의 황산마그네슘 저항성이 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 이러한 현상이 나타난 이유는 황산마그네슘 침식에 의하여 생성된 gypsum 및 thaumasite와 같은 반응생성물의 영향 때문인 것으로 판단된다.

버섯중 철이온에 활성화된 광감응성 Mitochondrial ATPase에 관한 연구 (Study on the Light-Induced Mitochondrial ATPase$(F_1-ATPase)$ Activated by Iron ion in Mushroom)

  • 1. 표고버섯중 광감응성 mitochondrial $F_1-ATPase$$Fe^{3+},\;Fe^{2-}$$Mg^{2+}$ 이온에 의하여 각각 활성화 되었으나 5.0 mM $Fe^{3+}$ 이온에 의한 상대활성도는 대조구에 비하여 107% 증가시켰다. 2 $Mg^{2+}$ 존재하에서 $Fe^{3+}$$Fe^{2-}$ 각 이온 농도효과는 모두 효소의 활성을 증가시켰으나 0.1 mM $Mg^{2+}$과 5.0 mM $Fe^{3+}$ 이온의 공존하에서 170%를 증가시켜 $Mg^{2+}$ 이온에 의한 상승작용을 보였다. 3. 0.1 mM $Mg^{2+}$와 0.1 mM $Fe^{2+}$ 존재하에서 $Fe^{3+}$ 이온농도효과는 그 농도가 5.0 mM일 때 168%의 활성도 증가를 보여 $Fe^{2-}$ 이온공존효과는 없었다. 4. 이 효소는 $Mg^{2+}$$Fe^{3+}$ 이온에 의하여 활성화되는 특성을 가지고 있으며 활성금속이온 존재하에서 측정한 최적 pH 빛 온도는 각각 7.5 및 $66^{\circ}C$였다.

Mg 첨가에 따른 수성가스전이반응용 Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 촉매의 활성 연구 (Enhanced Catalytic Activity of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 Catalyst by Mg Addition for Water Gas Shift Reaction)

  • 저온 수성가스전이반응에서 $Cu/ZnO/MgO/Al_2O_3$ (CZMA) 촉매의 마그네슘의 영향을 조사하기 위하여 Cu/Zn/Mg/Al의 비율을 45/45/5/5 mol%로 공침법을 사용하여 제조하였다. 제조된 촉매들은 BET, $N_2O$ 화학흡착, XRD, $H_2-TPR$ and $NH_3-TPD$를 사용하여 분석되었다. 촉매 활성 테스트는 GHSV $28,000h^{-1}$와 온도 범위 $200{\sim}320^{\circ}C$에서 수행되었다. 동일한 조건에서 마그네슘이 첨가된 촉매(CZMA 400)는 가장 낮은 환원 온도를 나타내며 활성종인 $Cu^+$가 안정적으로 존재하고 또한 많은 약산점을 보유하였다. 또한 마그네슘이 첨가된 촉매(CZMA)는 마그네슘이 첨가되지 않은 촉매(CZA)와 비교하였을 때 240 이상의 높은 온도에서 촉매 활성이 증가하였다. CZMA 400 촉매는 최적의 촉매로서 $240^{\circ}C$, GHSV $28,000h^{-1}$에서 75 h 동안 활성의 저하없이 평균 CO 전환율 77.59%를 나타내었다.

Effects of Selenium, Copper and Magnesium on Antioxidant Enzymes and Lipid Peroxidation in Bovine Fluorosis

  • The antioxidant enzymes, lipid peroxidation and free radicals assessment were made of the effects of selenium, copper and magnesium on bovine endemic fluorosis under high fluoride, low selenium and low copper productive conditions. Thirty-two beef cattle were selected from high fluoride area, and randomly divided into four groups with eight cattle each as follows: (1) high fluoride control group (HFC); (2) supplemented group with 0.25 mg/kg selenium (HFSe); (3) supplemented group with 15 mg/kg copper (HFCu) and (4) supplemented group with 0.25 mg/kg selenium+15 mg/kg copper+1 mg/kg magnesium (HFSeCuMg) per day for 83 days. Moreover, eight beef cattle were selected from non-high fluoride area as normal control group. Blood samples were collected from cattle on 0 d, 30 d and 83 d respectively, to analyze the enzyme activities and concentration of GSH-px, CAT, SOD, MDA and free radicals. The results showed that the contents of free radicals and MDA in HFC group were significantly higher, and the whole blood GSH-px, CAT, erythrocyte SOD activities were lower than the normal control group. Free radicals, metabolic imbalance and antioxidant disorder therefore, play an important role in fluorosis. However, GSH-px, CAT and SOD activities in HFSe group and HFSeCuMg group at 30 d and 83 d were markedly higher than the same groups at the 0 d and the HFC group at the same time. Likewise, there was a corresponding reduction in the contents of free radicals and MDA. These findings indicated that supplementation with selenium, copper and magnesium elevated high fluoride bovine antioxidant enzymes, and decreased MDA and free radicals contents. But, the activities of supplementation selenium group did not increase until day 83. These results demonstrated that fluorosis was associated with lower serum Se and Cu levels than in the control, and it was therefore concluded that fluorosis is associated with decreased serum levels of these minerals. Long-term high fluoride intake under productive condition enhances oxidative stress in the blood, thereby disturbing the antioxidant defense of cattle. Increased oxidative stress could be one of the mediating factors in the pathogenesis of toxic manifestations of fluoride. It is benefical for high fluoride cattle supplemented with proper selenium, copper and magnesium to increase fluoride excretion and obtain the protective impact of the activity of oxidative enzymes, and to decrease lipid peroxidation and free radicals contents.
