  • In this study, very accurate computational mechatronics method has been developed for typical N.C. machine model applying to manufacturing industry in these days. Computation analysis of high speed machine tools like N.C. machine needs consideration about mechatronical features because the machine shows close interaction between dynamic behavior of the mechanical structure, drives and numerical control. For this, nonlinear structural analysis tools based on FEM are linked numerical control program to control the dynamic behavior. In this study, we studied the dynamic feature of N.C. machine by using SAMCEF as nonlinear computational structural analysis tool and simulink as drivers.

  • Multi-tasking machines are widely used in machine tool industries nowadays. This study focuses on the effect of load on the structure stabilities of laser multi-tasking machine which is comprehensively combined turning center and laser machine. For design of the machine, simulation of structural analysis is carried out varying number of elements. The analysis is carried out by FEM simulation using the commercial software, CATIA V5. This method showed a proper number of elements can be selected to obtain good result by reduced computation time.

  • This study is concerned with the machine part grouping m cellular manufacturing. To group machines into the set of machine cells and parts into the set of part families, new p-median model considering the production data such as the operation sequences and production volumes for parts is proposed. Unlike existing p-median models relying on the classical binary part-machine incidence matrix which does not reflect the real production factors which seriously impact on machine-part grouping, the proposed p-median model reflects the production factors by adopting the new similarity coefficient based on the production data-based part-machine incidence matrix of which each non-binary entry indicates actual intra-cell or inter-cell flows to or from machines by parts. Computation test compares the proposed p median model favorably.

  • We consider a Direct Input Output Manufacturing System(DIOMS) which has a munber of machine centers placed along a built-in Automated Storage/Retrieval System(AS/RS). The Storage/Retrieval (S/R) machine handles parts placed on pallets for the machine centers located at either one or both sides of the As/Rs. This report studies the operational aspect of DIOMS and determines the optimal operating policy by combining computer simulation and genetic algorithm. The operational problem includes: input sequencing control, dispatching rule of the S/R machine, machine center-based part type selection rule, and storage assignment policy. For each operating policy, several different policies are considered based on the known research results. In this report, using the computer simulation and genetic algorithm we suggest a method which gives the optimal configuration of operating policies within reasonable computation time.

  • The support vector machine has been successful in many applications because of its flexibility and high accuracy. However, when a training data set is large or imbalanced, the support vector machine may suffer from significant computational problem or loss of accuracy in predicting minority classes. We propose a modified version of the support vector machine using the K-means clustering that exploits the information in class labels during the clustering process. For large data sets, our method can save the computation time by reducing the number of data points without significant loss of accuracy. Moreover, our method can deal with imbalanced data sets effectively by alleviating the influence of dominant class.

  • This paper a heuristic, clustering based task allocation scheme applicable to non-directed task graph on a distributed system. This scheme firstly builds a task-machine graph, and then applies a clustering process where in a pair of tasks that are connected to the highest cost edge is merged into a big one or a task is allocated to a machine. During the process, the proposed scheme figure out a machine onto which the task allocation may cause deduction of large communication overhead that has incurred between the task and tasks that are already allocated to the machine while the computation costs is slightly increased in the machine. Simulation for the various task graphs shows that the scheduling using the proposed scheme result far better than ones by using the traditional schemes. A comparison with optimal task scheduling also promises that our scheme derives optimal results more occasionally than the traditional schemes do.

  • In this paper, we developed an automated program for the modeling and manufacturing of three-dimensional roller gear cams. A computer program employing the theory of gearing and coordinate transformation is developed for synthesizing and animating cam mechanisms. A method using wire frame modeling and shading by triangular element is presented, and effectively used for modeling of example with reduced computation time. Then a module for generation NC program a five-axis CNC machine to manufacture roller gear cam is established.

  • In this paper, ‘gesture’ is discussed as a means of human-friendly communication between man and machine. We classify various gestures into two Categories: ‘contact based’ and ‘non-contact based’ Each method is reviewed and some real applications are introduced. Also, key design issues of the method are addressed and some contributions of soft-computing techniques, such as fuzzy logic, artificial neural networks (ANN), rough set theory and evolutionary computation, are discussed.

  • The paper deals with the control of the synchronous reluctance machine without position senser. A method for the computation of the transformation angle out of terminal voltages and currents is presented. The injection of test signals allows operation at zero speed. Fundamental for this control scheme is the angle estimation method over the whole operating range including field-weakening is discussed in detail. The implementation of the angle estimation method in a rotor-oriented control scheme and practical results are demonstrated.
