The present study addresses an experimental investigations of the near field flow structures of supersonic, dual, coaxial, swirl jet. The swirl stream is discharged from the secondary annular nozzle and the primary inner nozzle provides the sonic and supersonic free jets. The interactions between the secondary swirl and inner soni $c^ersonic jets are quantified by a fine pilot impact and static pressure measurements and are visualized by using a shadowgraph optical method. The pressure ratios of the secondary swirl and primary soni $c^ersonic jets are varied below 7.0. Experiments are conducted to investigate the effects of the secondary swirl stream on the primary sonic and supersonic jets, compared with the secondary stream of no swirl. The results show that the presence of annular swirl stream causes the Mach disk to move more downstream, with the increased diameter, and remarkably reduces the fluctuations of the impact pressures in the supersonic dual coaxial jet, compared with the case of the secondary annular stream of no swirl.swirl.

Three dimensional flow characteristics in a liquid fuel ramjet combustor are investigated using PIV method. The combustors have two rectangular inlets that form 90 degree each other. Three guide vane is installed in each rectangular inlet to improve the flow stability. We made three cases of test combustors in which those inlet angles are 30 degree, 45 degree and 60 degree. Each combustor easily changes the size of combustor's recirculation zone with the replacement of combustors dome. The experiments are performed in the water tunnel test with the same Reynolds number in the case of Mach 0.3 at inlet. PIV software is developed to measure the flow field in the combustor and the accuracy of developed PIV program is verified with rotating disk experiment and standard data. The experimental results show that the two main streams from rectangular inlet collide near the plane of symmetry and generate two large longitudinal vortex, A large and complex three-dimensional recirculating flow is measured in the recirculation zone.
This computational study features the transient compressible and inviscid flow analysis on a metallic plasma discharge from the opposing composite electrodes which is subjected to pulsed electric power. The computations have been performed using the flux corrected transport algorithm on the axisymmetric two-dimensional domain of electrode gap and outer space along with the calculation of plasma compositions and thermophysical properties such as plasma electrical conductivity. The mass ablation from aluminum electrode surfaces are modeled with radiative flux from plasma column experiencing intense Joule heating. The computational results shows the highly ionized and highly under-expanded supersonic plasma discharge with strong shock structure of Mach disk and blast wave propagation, which is very similar to muzzle blast or axial plasma jet flows. Also, the geometrical effects of composite electrodes are investigated to compare the amount of mass ablation and penetration depth of plasma discharge.
Viscous solutions of supersonic jet impinging on a flat plate normal to the flow are simulated using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. The jet impinging flow structure exhibits such complex nature as shock shell, plate shock and Mach disk depending on the flow parameters. Among others, the dominant parameters are the ratio of the nozzle exit pressure to the ambient pressure and the distance between the nozzle exit plane and the impinging plane. In the present study, the nozzle contour and the pressure ratio are held fixed, while the jet impinging distance is varied to illuminate the characteristics of the jet plume with the distance. As the plate is placed close to the nozzle at 3D high, the computed wall pressure at or near the jet center oscillates with large amplitude with respect to the mean value. Here D is the nozzle exit diameter. The amplitude of wall pressure fluctuations subsides as the distance increases, but the maximum mean pressure level at the plate is achieved when the distance is about 4D high. The frequency of the wall pressure is estimated at 6.0 kHz, 9.3 kHz, and 10.0 kHz as the impinging distance varies from 3D, 4D, to 6D, respectively.

Quality of cut is strongly dependent on the cutting pressure, so this relationship can be identified by pressure measuring system. In this paper, the experiments presented were performed with the devised pressure measuring system and the laser cutting of STS 304. Convergent type and convergent-divergent type nozzle were used for pressure variation of the distance between nozzle and workpiece. In laser cutting of STS 304, 1.0 kW CO $\_$2/ laser used. The convergent type nozzle(1.0 mm diameter) pressured above 3 kgf/cm $\^$2/, the MSD(Mach Shock Disk) created, which caused the the pressure variations of the distance between nozzle and workpiece. The maximum cutting pressure exists in accordance with the variation of distance. In spite of far distance the maximum cutting pressure is achieved by using the pressure measuring system. The higher cutting pressure beneath the workpiece the less quantity of dross and the kerf width. Since the higher cutting pressure helps to remove the quantity of dross and to stop the exothermic energy into the material. The optimum laser cutting parameter of STS 304(2.0 mm thickness) with the convergent type nozzle(1.0 mm diameter)is 0.75 mm and 2.5 mm distance between nozzle and workpiece, 4 kgf/cm $\^$2/ cutting pressure. In 3.0 mm thickness case, 1.5 mm and 2.25 mm distance is achieved for good quality.
In this study, time-dependent numerical analysis was carried out to investigate the plasma jet impingement on a flat plate, and a compressible form of two-dimensional inviscid gas dynamics equations were solved using the flux corrected transport algorithm. The mathematical modeling of Joule heating in the polycarbonate capillary bore and the mass ablation from the bore wall was incorporated in the numerical analysis and the series of computation was performed for three cases depending on the distance of the opposing plate from the capillary exit. The computational results reveal that the presence of the opposing plate does not affect the flow conditions inside the capillary when compared to the case of open-air plasma discharge. In the exterior region, the flow structure shows the typical supersonic underexpanded jet which consists of the strong Mach disk in front of the opposing plate and the barrel shock at the side of the jet. It is found that the shock evolution becomes more quasi-steady when the plate distance decreases. Also, the effects of the distance between the capillary bore exit and the opposing plate on the flow conditions along the opposing plate are investigated and the pressure variation on the plate shows more complicated interaction between the plasma discharge and the opposing plate when the location of plate becomes closer to the capillary exit.

The present study addresses experimental results to investigate the details of the near field flow structures produced in the under-expanded, dual, coaxial, swirling, jet. The sonic/supersonic swirling jets are emitted from the sonic inner nozzle and the outer annular nozzle produce the co-swirling and counter swirling against the primary swirling jet, respectively. The interactions between both the secondary annular swirling and primary inner supersonic swirling jets are quantified by the pitot impact and static pressure measurements and visualized by using the Schliern optical method. The experiment is performed for different swirl intensity and pressure ratio. The results obtained show that the secondary co-swirling jet significantly changes the inner under-expanded swirling jet, such as the recirculation zone, pressure distribution, through strong interactions between both the swirling jets and the effects of the secondary counter-swirling jet is similar to the secondary co-swirl jet case.
The supersonic impinging jet has been extensively applied to rocket launching system, gas jet cutting control, gas turbine blade cooling, etc. In such applications, wall temperature of an object on which supersonic jet impinges is a very important factor to determine the performance and life of the device. However, wall temperature data of supersonic impinging jets are not enough to data. The present study describes an experimental work to measure the wall temperatures of a vertical flat plate on which supersonic, dual, coaxial jet impinges. An Infrared camera is employed to measure the wall temperature distribution on the impinging plate. The pressure ratio of the jet is varied to obtain the supersonic jets in the range of over-expanded to moderately under-expanded conditions at the exit of coaxial nozzle. The distance between the coaxial nozzle and the flat plate was also varied. The coaxial jet flows are visualized using a Shadow optical method. The results show that the wall temperature distribution of the impinging plate is strongly dependent on the jet pressure ratio and the distance between the nozzle and plate.

A numerical study has been conducted to investigate flow characteristics of STED with ram structure shape. By increasing the attack angle of shock cone, vacuum pressure is increased because of oblique shock at ram structure and separation point moved to the downstream of the second throat. By increasing blockage ratio, expansion wave angle is increased at ram structure while vacuum pressure is constant.
