Properties of Acid Tolerance of Acid-Resistant Mutant Leuconostoc mesenteroides Which Was Improved as Kimchi Starter. (김치 starter용으로 개량된 내산성 변이주 Leuconostoc mesenteroides의 내산성 특성)

  • To investigate the increased acid tolerance of a acid-resistant mutant Leuconostoc mesenteroides M-100 improved as a kimchi starter, proton permeability, ATPase acitivity, glycolysis activity, $Mg^{2+}$ releasement, and membrane fatty acid composition were studied and comprised with its wild type Leuconostoc mesenteroides Mw. In the proton permeability experiment, the mininum values of the average half time ($t_{1/2}$) of pH equilibration through the cell membrane of the Mw and the M-100 were about 8.6 min and 9.2 min in 150 mM KCI solution, respectivily. In the 3% NaCl solution, the $t_{1/2}$ values of the Mw and the M-100 were 6min and 8.6 min, respectivily. The values and pHs of maximal specific activities of ATPase originated from the Mw and the M-100 were 0.6U at pH 5.5 and 0.8U at pH 5.5, respectivily. The result of pH dependence of glycolysis showed that the M-100 had higher activities than that of Mw except at pH 5.0. The releases of magnesium from the Mw and the M-100 were observed about 36.5% and 13% at pH 4.0 after 2 hours, respectivily. The results of comparison of membrane fatty acid composition of the Mw with the M-100 showed that $C_{12}$, $C_{14}$, $C_{18:1}$, and $C_{19:0cyclo}$ were major different fatty acids between two strains and the content of $C_{18:1}$, and $C_{19:0cyclo}$ were 23.4%, 10.2% in the Mw and 15.1%, 12.2% in the M-100. These results indicated that acid tolerance of the M-100 was significantly improved in comparison with its wild type Mw.

765kV 송전선로 건설추진

  • 다가오는 21세기는 삶의 질 향상과 산업의 선진국화 생활환경의 자동화 및 정보화로의 전이등으로 전력수요가 급격히 증가할 것이다. 장기 전력수요예측[1]에 의하면 1995년 29,878MW였던 최대부하가 2000년 43,500MW, 2005년 55,700MW, 2010년 65,600MW가 될 것으로 예측하고 있다. 이에 따라 커지는 전력유통을 원활하게 하기 위하여 한전에서는 기존 345kV 송전선로의 5배의 송전능력을 가진 765kV 송전선로를 건설하고 있다. 765kV 송전선로는 국내 최고의 전압으로서 최초로 건설될 뿐만 아니라 제 1단계로 건설에 착수한 물량도 340km를 일시에 시행하는 대규모이다. 이와같은 사업의 시작부터 지금까지 추진한 내용과 공사에 새롭게 적용하는 기술, 공법등에 대하여 기술하고자 한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 LCD MW를 이용한 각 다중화 시스템에서 인접한 수직방향 MW 사이의 crosstalk를 제거하기 위하여 MW의 뒷단에 수직방향으로 주기적으로 서로 다른 초점 길이를 갖는 이중초점 렌즈를 삽입하여 인접한 MW의 기준빔이 서로 다른 공간에 기록되게 함으로써 기준빔의 전자적 제어뿐만 아니라 고밀도의 정보저장 및 복원이 가능한 새로운 공간-각 다중화 기법을 제안하고 이에 대한 광학 실험을 통해 구현가능성을 제시하였다.

  • To grow the diamond films by using RF-MW mix-process, at first, diamond seeds were deposited on silicon substrate by RF plasma CVD, and then a diamond layer grown by MW plasma CVD on the seeds. The grain-size of diamond films deposited by using HF-MW mix-process was smaller and denser than those of the MW plasma CVD process. The deposited diamond films were analyzed by scanning electron microscophy, X-ray diffractometer and Raman spectroscopy.

Studies on the Mutagenicity, Lipids Peroxidation and Meat Structure of Cooked Pork in Relation to Storage and Reheating using a Microwave Oven (가열조리한 돼지고기의 저장${\cdot}$Microwave 재가열에 의한 변이원성과 지질과산화 및 육조직에 관한 연구)

  • Pork was cooked using three kinds of instrument [electric pill (EG) for 5min., microwave oven (MW) for 6min. and reheated using a MW] and then extracted with $80\%$ methanol. The Ames test was performed on the methanol extracts, employing the S. typhimurium tester strain, TA100. The methanol extract of cooked pork showed high mutagenicity ion the 5.0 mg/plate without the S9 mix, but a higher mutagenicity was induced with the S9 mix With increasing refrigeration $(4^{\circ}C)$ and freezing $(-18^{\circ}C)$ periods the extracts showed higher mutagenicities and TBA values, and the same results where shown with reheating. Correlations of the mutagenicity (-S9 mix) and rancidity of the pork cooked by EG, according to storage at and $-18^{\circ}C$ and reheated by MW (1 min), were r=0.85, 0.86, 0.98 and 0.83, respectively. When the MW was used for reheating, the refrigeration storage (r=0.98) showed a higher correlation coefficient than for that stored frozen (r=0.83). From the structure of cooked pork, as observed by SEM, many vapor pathways were viewed in the pork reheated using themicrowave oven.

  • Median filter can be implemented in the binary domain based on threshold decomposition, stacking property, and linear separability. In this paper, we develop one-dimensional and two-dimensional parallel algorithms for the median filter on a reconfigurable mesh with buses(RMESH) which is suitable for VLSI implementation. And we evaluate their performance by comparing the time complexities of RMESH algorithms with those of algorithms on mesh-connected computer. When the length of M-valued 1-D signal is N and w is the window width, the RMESH algorithm is done in O(Mw) time and mesh algorithm is done in $O(Mw^2)$ time. Beside, when the size of M-valued 2-D image is $N{\times}N$ and the window size is $w{\times}w$, our algorithm on $N{\times}N$ RMESH can be computed in O(Mw) time which is a significant improvement over the $O(Mw^2)$ complexity on $N{\times}N$ mesh.

  • The strategic unit communication infrastructure for military command, communications requires a dualized network structure of various communication methods, considering the direction of development, strategic unit and line characteristic. It has been pointed out that MicroWave, which is typical of wireless systems, is inefficient because it operates only with existing technologies. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the structure, efficiency of the MW transmission system and its effects. It is difficult to transfer efficiently considering wireless environment due to a fixed type of access structure in the existing MW transmission system. Adaptive modulation allows improvement, but with traditional access structures and fixed bandwidth, there is a limit. Following the transmission performance improvement technique considering availability and link distance in the previous study, this paper presented improved packetized MW transmission system structure and variable bandwidth transmission in consideration of adaptive modulation based variable transmission waveform, bandwidth and distance, and performed the analysis in view of the strategic unit and command control circuit.

Effects of Applying a Vibration Stimulation to Paretic Side and Non-Paretic Side on Balance and Gait in Stroke Patients: a Pilot Study

  • Purpose: The purpose of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility of a proposed study "To investigate the effects of applying a vibration stimulation to the paretic and non-paretic sides on balance and gait in stroke patients" before proceeding with the main study. Methods: A total of 30 patients who had suffered a stroke and who met the selection criteria participated in this study. However, only 14 patients completed the study. The study subjects were randomly assigned to vibration stimulation on either both sides (B group) or the paralyzed side (P group). The interventions were applied for six weeks. The patients were assessed using the Berg balance scale (BBS), Timed up and go (TUG), 10-meter walk (10 MW), and 6-minute walk (6 MW) tests. Results: There was a significant difference before and after the application of vibration stimulation in the BBS, TUG, 10MW, and 6 MW tests in the B group (p<0.05). Similarly, there was also a significant difference observed in the 10 MW and 6 MW tests in the P group (p<0.05). The difference between the two groups was not significant in the BBS, TUG, 10 MW, and 6 MW tests (p>0.05). Conclusion: This pilot study suggests that it would be feasible to conduct a large-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT) to examine the effects of applying a vibration stimulation to the paretic and non-paretic sides, on the balance and gait in stroke patients.
