  • The Angle-of-Arrival(AOA) information for an array antenna receiver is one of the important factors for estimating the location of specific signals and detecting signals efficiently, in various situations. The AOA estimator in the satellite environment can rapidly calculate the AOA information in the wide area, utilizing a planar (grid, circular) array antenna mounted on the satellite. Since the satellite receiver has the limitation of the array antenna size, the concentric circular (ring) array (CCA or CRA) antenna structure with comparatively small size but with multiple antenna elements is more efficient than the uniform circular array (UCA) structure, for the satellite environment. In this paper, we introduce a cascade AOA estimation algorithm based on CRA, consisting of CAPON and Beamspace MUSIC. In addition, we provide computer simulation examples for verifying the estimation performance of the cascade AOA estimation algorithm based on CRA and compare it to the case of UCA.

  • This study examines the application of the FRBR model to an integrated KORMARC format using music materials. To do this, first, we analysed an integrated KORMARC format as well as a KORMARC format for audiovisual materials and then based on its analysis results, constructed an algorithm that allows the transformation from KORMARC to FRBR. Second, we used the algorithm to see whether it fits to the existing KORMARC database. Three suggestions were proposed to support the application of the FRBR model on existing integrated KORMARC library catalogues. This study results can be used not only to improve digital library interfaces but also as basic data in revising cataloging rules for the adaptation of the FRBR model.

  • In this paper, we propose a staff-line detection and removal algorithm from a music score image obtained by a mobile phone camera. As a preprocessing technique to recognize a music score image, staff-line detection and removal should be efficiently applied to the skewed or curved images. The proposed method detects a staff-line by dividing a staff according to the degree of distortion. The number of division is calculated by dividing a staff repletely until an average of differences of y coordinates in every divided position is smaller than a threshold. Therefore, the number of division can be adaptively estimated according to the degree of the distortion. For an experiment, we make various kinds of images by rotating one from $1^{\circ}\;to\;3^{\circ}$ or curving slightly upward. The results show that the proposed method performed well on the experiment images.

  • In this paper, we propose the construction of multi-queries and consistency principle for the user's emotion-based music retrieval system. The features used in the system are MPEG-7 audio descriptors, which are international standards recommended for content-based audio retrievals. In addition we propose the method to determine the weight that represent the importance of each descriptor for each emotion in order to reduce the computation. Also, the proposed retrieval algorithm that uses the relevance feedback based on consistency principal and multi-queries improves the success ratio of musics corresponding to user's emotion.

  • In this paper, we propose a high accurate geo-location system based on a single base station, where its location is obtained by Time-of-Arrival(ToA) and Direction-of-Arrival(DoA) of the radio signal. For estimating accurate ToA and DoA information, a MUltiple SIgnal Classification(MUSIC) is adopted. However, the estimation of ToA and DoA using MUSIC algorithm is a time-consuming process. The position tracking bias is occurred by the time delay caused by the estimation process. In order to mitigate the bias error, we propose the estimation method of the position tracking bias and compensate the location error produced by the time delay using the position tracking bias mitigation. For accurate self-localization of mobile robot, the Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) with position tracking bias is applied. The simulation results show the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed geo-location system and the enhanced performance when the Unscented Kalman Filter is adopted for mobile robot application.

  • In this paper, the accuracy of the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of signal impinged on the uniform linear array (ULA) is investigated. The conventional beamformer and Capon’s beamformer categorized in beamformaing techniques as well as MUSIC (MUlti-pie Signal Classification) and ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Invariance Techniques) categorized in subspace- based methods are employed to estimate the DOAs. From the simulation result under uncorrelated environment, MUSIC can prominently distinguish the DOAs while the beamforming techniques cannot demonstrate the DOAs as clear as MUSIC does. Moreover, Uni-tary ESPRIT is employed to estimate the DOAs under uncorrelated signal conditions. By means of Uni-tary ESPRIT, the estimation has more accuracy with the computational-time reduction. In addition, it incorporates forward-backward averaging; thus Unitary ES-PRIT can overcome the problem of the coherent signal condition.

  • The diagnosis of motor failures using an on-line method has been the aim of many researchers and studies. Several spectral analysis techniques have been developed and are used to facilitate on-line diagnosis methods in industry. This paper discusses the first application of a motor flux spectral analysis to the identification of broken rotor bar (BRB) faults in induction motors using a multiple signal classification (MUSIC) technique as an on-line diagnosis method. The proposed method measures the leakage flux in the radial direction using a radial flux sensor which is designed as a search coil and is installed between stator slots. The MUSIC technique, which requires fewer number of data samples and has a higher detection accuracy than the traditional fast Fourier transform (FFT) method, then calculates the motor load condition and extracts any abnormal signals related to motor failures in order to identify BRB faults. Experimental results clearly demonstrate that the proposed method is a promising candidate for an on-line diagnosis method to detect motor failures.

  • Due to the degradation of beamforming properties at angles close to $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$, linear array does not have a complete $180^{\circ}$ inspection range but a smaller one. This paper develops a improved sensor array with two additional sensors above and below the linear sensor array, and presents time difference and two dimensional multiple signal classification (2D-MUSIC) based impact localization for omni-directional localization on composite structures. Firstly, the arrival times of impact signal observed by two additional sensors are determined using the wavelet transform and compared, and the direction range of impact source can be decided in general, $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$ or $180^{\circ}$ to $360^{\circ}$. And then, 2D-MUSIC based spatial spectrum formula using uniform linear array is applied for locate accurate position of impact source. When the arrival time of impact signal observed by two additional sensors is equal, the direction of impact source can be located at $0^{\circ}$ or $180^{\circ}$ by comparing the first and last sensor of linear array. And then the distance is estimated by time difference algorithm. To verify the proposed approach, it is applied to a quasi-isotropic epoxy laminate plate and a stiffened composite panel. The results are in good agreement with the actual impact occurring position.

  • The Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) system based on the adaptive beamformer, comprised of the AOA estimator followed by the interference canceller, is a cutting edge technology for collecting various signal information utilizing all sorts of devices such as the radar and satellite. In this paper, we present the efficient adaptive SIGINT structure consisted of an AOA estimator and an adaptive beamformer. For estimating AOA information of various signals, we employ the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm and for efficiently suppressing high-power interference signals, we employ the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) algorithm. Also, we provide computer simulation examples to verify the performance of the presented adaptive beamformer structure.
