사장교의 지진응답제어를 위한 준능동 MR 감쇠기의 퍼지제어 (Fuzzy Control of Semi-Active Magneto-Rheological Dampers for Seismic Response Control of Cable-Stayed Bridge)

  • 사장교의 효과적 지진응답제어를 위하여 MR 감쇠기를 이용한 준능동 퍼지 제어기법을 제시하였다. 제시하는 방법은 MR 감쇠기의 응답정보만을 이용한 퍼지추론 과정을 통하여 준능동 제어를 수행하는 방법으로서, 능동제어이론에 기반한 기존 준능동 제어기법과 달리, 별도의 능동제어기를 설계할 필요가 없는 간단한 구조로서 구성될 수 있다. 제시한 제어기법의 제어성능을 평가하기 위해 사장교 벤치마크 문제에 적용하였으며 기존 준능동 제어기법들과의 성능비교를 통하여 그 효율성을 평가하였다. 제어성능을 비교한 결과, 제시하는 준능동 퍼지 제어기법은 주탑의 전단력 및 휨모멘트, 데크의 수평변위, 그리고 케이블 장력 등의 상충하는 지진응답들을 동시에 효과적으로 제어함으로써 지진응답제어에 매우 효율적인 제어전략이 될 수 있음을 보였다.

Suppression of tension variations in hydro-pneumatic riser tensioner by using force compensation control

  • Excessive dynamic-tension variations on the top-tensioned risers (TTRs) deteriorate the structural integrity and cause potential safety hazards. This phenomenon has become more remarkable in the development of deep-water fields with harsher environmental loads. The conventional prediction method of tension variations in hydro-pneumatic tensioner (HPT) has the disadvantage to underestimate the magnitude of cyclic loads. The actual excessive dynamic tension variations are larger when considering the viscous frictional fluid effects. In this paper, a suppression method of tension variations in HPT is modeled by incorporating the magneto-rheological (MR) damper and linear-force actuator. The mathematical models of the combined HPT and MR damper are developed and a force-control scheme is introduced to compensate the excessive tension variations on the riser tensioner ring. Numerical simulations and analyses are conducted to evaluate the suppression of tension variations in HPT under both regular- and irregular-wave conditions for a drilling riser of a tensioned-leg platform (TLP). The results show that significant reduction of tension variations can be achieved by introducing the proposed system. This research has provided a theoretical foundation for the HPT tension control and related structural protection.

  • In this paper a safe arm with passive compliant joints and visco-elastic covering is designed for human-friendly service robots. The passive compliant joint (PCJ) is composed of a magneto-rheological (MR) damper and a rotary spring. In addition to a spring component, a damper is introduced for damping effect and works as a rotary viscous damper by controlling the electric current according to the angular velocity of spring displacement. When a manipulator interacts with human or environment, the joints and cover passively operate and attenuate the applied collision force. The force attenuation property is verified through collision experiments showing that the proposed passive arm is safe in view of some evaluation measures.

  • Squeeze film dampers (SFDs) have been commonly used to effectively enhance the dynamic behavior of the rotating shaft supported by rolling element bearings. However, due to the recent trends of high operating speed, high load capacity and light weight in rotating machinery, it is becoming increasingly important to change the dynamic characteristics of rotating machines in operation so that the excessive vibrations, which may occur particularly when passing through critical speeds or unstable regions, can be avoided. Semi-active type SFDs using magneto-rheological fluid (MR fluid), which responds to an applied magnetic field with a change in rheoloaical behavior, are introduced in order to find its applications to rotating machinery as an effective device attenuating unbalance responses. In this paper, a semi-active SFD using MR fluid is designed, tested and identified by means of linear analysis to investigate the capability of changing its dynamic properties such as damping and stiffness. Furthermore, the proposed device is applied to a rotor system to investigate its potential capability for vibration attenuation: an efficient method for selecting the optimal location of the proposed damper is introduced and control algorithm that could improve the unbalance response properties of a flexible rotor is also proposed.

Compensating time delay in semi-active control of a SDOF structure with MR damper using predictive control

  • Some of the control systems used in engineering structures that use sensors and decision systems have some time delay reducing efficiency of the control system or even might make it unstable. In this research, in addition to considering the effect of the time delay in vibration control process, predictive control is used to compensate the time delay. A semi-active vibration control approach with the help of magneto-rheological dampers is implemented. In addition to using fuzzy inference system to determine the appropriate control voltage for MR damper, structural behavior prediction system and specifying future responses are also used such that the time delays occurring within control process are overcome. For this purpose, determination of prediction horizon is conducted for one, five, and ten steps ahead for single degree of freedom structures with periods ranging from 0.1 to 4 seconds, subjected to twenty earthquake excitations. The amount of time delay applied to the control system is 0.1 seconds. The obtained results indicate that for 0.1 second time delay, average prediction error values compared to the case without time delay is 3.47 percent. Having 0.1 second time delay in a semi-active control system reduces its efficiency by 11.46 percent; while after providing the control system with structure behavior prediction, the difference in the results for the control system without time delay is just 1.35 percent on average; indicating a 10.11 percent performance improvement for the control system.

  • 감쇠기는 기계 시스템에서 에너지를 소모하는데 사용되는 요소이다. 이러한 감쇠기에는 수동 감쇠기, 능동 감쇠기, 반능동 감쇠기 등의 종류가 있다. 반능동 감쇠기는 수동 감쇠기에 비해서 더 좋은 성능을 내면서 능동 감쇠기보다는 더 작은 동력원을 필요로 하는 장치로 상황에 따라서 그 감쇠력 특성을 변화 시킬 수 있다. 본 논문은, 자기 유변 유체를 이용한 반능동 감쇠기의 개발에 관한 것이다. 자기 유변 유체는 가제어성 유체의 일종으로 인가 자기장에 대해서 그 유동학적 성질이 변하며 높은 항복응력, 낮은 점성계수, 불순물에 대한 안정성과 넓은 사용 온도 범위 등의 장점을 가진 재료이다. 이를 이용할 경우 간단한 구조로 반능동 감쇠기를 설계할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 빠른 응답성 등의 효과도 기대할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 자기 유변 유체를 이용하여 설계·제작된 몇 가지 종류의 감쇠기들을 통하여 그 응용 방법과 범위 그리고 응용 시 수반되는 문제점 등을 제시하였다.

  • This paper presents the results of a study to verify the sufficient control performance of semiactive tuned mass damper and to identify suitable control methods for semiactive tuned mass damper in structural vibration control. In this study, four control algorithms are considered: on-off displacement based groundhook, on-off velocity based groundhook, clipped optimal and maximum energy dissipation algorithm. For semiactive tuned mass damper, MR damper is considered as a controllable damping device and the command voltage is calculated by the control algorithms. Each of the control theory is applied to the three story shear building excited by three earthquakes. The performance of each algorithm is compared with that of conventional tuned mass damper system using evaluation criteria. The simulation results indicate that semiactive tuned mass damper has control efficiency. Among the control algorithms, on-off displacement based control theory shows the best efficacy and robustness.

추계학적 선형화 방법 및 다목적 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 지진하중을 받는 인접 구조물에 대한 비선형 감쇠시스템의 최적 설계 (Optimal design of nonlinear damping system for seismically-excited adjacent structures using multi-objective genetic algorithm integrated with stochastic linearization method)

  • 인접 구조물의 지진응답 제어를 위한 비선형 감쇠시스템의 최적 설계 방법에 관하여 연구하였다. 최적 설계를 위한 목적 함수로는 구조물의 응답과 감쇠기의 총 사용량을 고려하였으며, 상충하는 두 목적함수를 합리적인 수준에서 동시에 최소화하는 해를 구하기 위하여 유전자 알고리즘에 기반한 다목적 최적화 방법을 도입하였다. 또한, 최적화 과정에서 요구되는 비선형 시간이력해석을 수행하지 않고도, 비선형 이력감쇠기로 연결된 구조물의 지진응답을 효율적으로 평가하기 위하여 추계학적 선형화 방법을 접목하였다. 제시하는 방법의 효율성을 검증하기 위한 수치 예로서 20층과 10층의 인접 빌딩을 고려하였으며, 두 빌딩을 연결하는 비선형 감쇠시스템으로는 입력전압의 크기에 따라 변화하는 감쇠성능을 보이는 MR 감쇠기를 도입하였다. 제시하는 방법을 통하여 MR 감쇠기의 각 층별 최적 개수 및 감쇠용량을 결정할 수 있었으며, 이는 일반적인 균등분포 시스템에 비해 유사한 제어성능을 보이면서도 훨씬 경제적이었다. 또한, 인접구조물간 충돌에 대하여도 확률적으로 안정적인 거동을 보임을 검증하였으며, 제시하는 방법이 준능동 제어시스템의 최적 배치를 결정하기 위한 설계문제에도 적용할 수 있음을 보였다.

풍응답과 지진응답의 다중제어를 위한 스마트 아웃리거 댐퍼의 최적설계 (Optimal Design of Smart Outrigger Damper for Multiple Control of Wind and Seismic Responses)

  • An outrigger damper system has been proposed to reduce dynamic responses of tall buildings. In previous studies, an outrigger damper system was optimally designed to decrease a wind-induced or earthquake-induced dynamic response. When an outrigger damper system is optimally designed for wind excitation, its control performance for seismic excitation deteriorates. Therefore, a smart outrigger damper system is proposed in this study to make a control system that can simultaneously reduce both wind and seismic responses. A smart outrigger system is made up of MR (Magnetorheological) dampers. A fuzzy logic control algorithm (FLC) was used to generate command voltages sent for smart outrigger damper system and the FLC was optimized by genetic algorithm. This study shows that the smart outrigger system can provide good control performance for reduction of both wind and earthquake responses compared to the general outrigger system.
