  • Tongue Diagnosis is the important traditional oriental medical diagnosis method that observes not only the general physiological state but also some kinds of disease. However, manual tongue diagnosis is much influenced by surrounding illumination. Therefore, Digital Tongue Inspection System(DigiTis) is needed for the quantification of objective tongue information, In this research, Tongue images of 98 malignant Neoplasm patients and 34 normal persons were collected by Digital Tongue Inspection System. Statistical analysis of tongue images and patient data indicates that cancer group has more blue-purple components in tongue body(舌質) and yellow components in tongue coating than normal group. Also, there are a lot of rose-pink components in the cancer group of second stage and blue-purple components in the cancer group of third or fourth stage. Our study shows that tongue image is a useful index for distinction between disease and health. Furthermore we need more extended research through the additional sampling and various disease.

  • Beamspace transform algorithm transforms spatial-domain data - such as x, y, z dimension - into incidence-angle-domain data, which is called beamspace-domain data. The beamspace transform method is generally used in source localization and tracking, and adaptive beamforming problem. When the beamspace transform method is used in multichannel audio source separation, the inverse beamspace transform is also important because the source image have to be reconstructed. This paper studies the beamspace transform and inverse transform algorithms for multichannel audio source separation system, especially for the beamspace-domain multichannel NMF algorithm.

  • For successful automatic target recognition(ATR) with synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imagery, SAR target images of the database should have the identical or highly similar resolution with those collected from SAR sensors. However, it is time-consuming or infeasible to construct the multiple databases with different resolutions depending on the operating SAR system. In this paper, an approach for resolution conversion of SAR target images is proposed based on conditional generative adversarial network(cGAN). First, a number of pairs consisting of SAR target images with two different resolutions are obtained via SAR simulation and then used to train the cGAN model. Finally, the model generates the SAR target image whose resolution is converted from the original one. The similarity analysis is performed to validate reliability of the generated images. The cGAN model is further applied to measured MSTAR SAR target images in order to estimate its potential for real application.

  • This paper presents a new method for upmixing mono signal to stereo signal with guaranteeing high stereophonic image quality (SIQ) and large apparent source width (ASW). The proposed method consists of analysis phase and synthesis phase. In analysis phase, a mono signal is first decomposed into multiple sound sources by the use of high-rank nonnegative matrix factorization. Then the multiple sources are clustered into two groups based on tonality criterion. In synthesis phase, one group is directly fed into left and right channels while the other group is decorrelated before being fed into each channel. Subjective tests reveals that the proposed method gives listener high SIQ and large ASW with minimizing timbral distortions.

  • Conventional CT and MRI scans produce cross-section slices of body that are viewed sequentially by radiologists who must imagine or extrapolate from these views what the 3 dimensional anatomy should be. By using sophisticated algorithm and high performance computing, these cross-sections may be rendered as direct 3D representations of human anatomy. The 2D medical image analysis forced to use time-consuming, subjective, error-prone manual techniques, such as slice tracing and region painting, for extracting regions of interest. To overcome the drawbacks of 2D medical image analysis, combining with medical image processing, 3D visualization is essential for extracting anatomical structures and making measurements. We used the gray-level thresholding, region growing, contour following, deformable model to segment human organ and used the feature vectors from texture analysis to detect harmful cancer. We used the perspective projection and marching cube algorithm to render the surface from volumetric MR and CT image data. The 3D visualization of human anatomy and segmented human organ provides valuable benefits for radiation treatment planning, surgical planning, surgery simulation, image guided surgery and interventional imaging applications.

  • The study focuses on the value of Micro CT, a high resolution X-ray imaging device, by using it on rats to observe the overall portal vein image of the liver and the microvasculature of each lobes, visualize the 4 segmental lobes and acquire 3D image of the microvasculature through the reconstruction of sectional image data. Less of the damage to liver of the 5 mice, the device was able to separate the liver into 4 segmental lobes and displayed the 4 portal vein microvasculature in 2D. By using the 3D MIP technique, observation of the whole portal vein system microvasculature in 3D image was made possible along with each of the portal vein segment's branches until the 6th branch. Measured the size of 6branch, the average was measured at 1branch : $0.51mm{\pm}0.08$, 2 branch : $0.32mm{\pm}0.12$, 3 branch : $0.23mm{\pm}0.11$, 4 branch : $0.19mm{\pm}0.08$, 5 branch : $0.13mm{\pm}0.06$, 6 branch : $70.5{\mu}m{\pm}14.1$. The 3D image and the images of the microvasculatures in the result of study proved that the Micro-CT can be considered many useful device in obtaining high resolution images.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the effect of exposure time and image resolution on fractal dimension calculations for determining the optimal range of these two variances. Materials and Methods : Thirty-one radiographs of the mandibular angle area of sixteen human dry mandibles were taken at different exposure times (0.01, 0.08, 0.16, 0.25, 0.40, 0.64, and 0.80 s). Each radiograph was digitized at 1200 dpi, 8 bit, 256 gray level using a film scanner. We selected an Region of Interest (ROI) that corresponded to the same region as in each radiograph, but the resolution of ROI was degraded to 1000, 800, 600, 500, 400, 300, 200, and 100 dpi. The fractal dimension was calculated by using the tile-counting method for each image, and the calculated values were then compared statistically. Results: As the exposure time and the image resolution increased, the mean value of the fractal dimension decreased, except the case where exposure time was set at 0.01 seconds (α = 0.05). The exposure time and image resolution affected the fractal dimension by interaction (p<0.001). When the exposure time was set to either 0.64 seconds or 0.80 seconds, the resulting fractal dimensions were lower, irrespective of image resolution, than at shorter exposure times (α = 0.05). The optimal range for exposure time and resolution was determined to be 0.08- 0.40 seconds and from 400-1000 dpi, respectively. Conclusion : Adequate exposure time and image resolution is essential for acquiring the fractal dimension using tile-counting method for evaluation of the mandible.
