Game Theoretic Model for Radio Channel Sharing between MNO and MVNO (MNO와 MVNO 사이의 무선 채널 공유를 위한 게임이론적 모델)

  • In this paper, we propose a game theoretic channel sharing model that allocates resources of a base station between MNO(Mobile Network Operator) and MVNO(Mobile Virtual Network Operator) in a fair and efficient manner. Considering the input traffic loads of MNO and MVNO, the proposed model uses the bargaining game theory to allocate channel resources between MNO and MNVO. When the input loads of the carriers are asymmetric, the proposed model increases the resource utilization by allocating more channel resources to the operator with high input load. In addition, the proposed model prevents the quality of service of an operator from degrading even if the input load of the other operators increases excessively.

  • The study on Wholesale pricing of MVNO using two way interconnection charge system is rare. This paper considers MVNO possessing its own facilities and subscribers. While previous studies focus on wholesale provision by MNO, this paper employs another approach from existing MVNO model. This paper introduces two way interconnection charge system by recognizing that mobile network interconnection is important to complete the call from MNO to MVNO as well as the call from MVNO to MNO. Also it is interesting to analyze wholesale pricing when there is brand loyalty between MNO and MVNO. This paper analyzes retail pricing and wholesale pricing under duopoly competition and drives social optimal solutions using linear city model.

  • There are lots of controversies over the introduction of MVNO(Mobile Virtual Network Operator) policy to Korean mobile telecommunications market. MVNO is a kind of service-based competition in mobile market. This paper attempts to analyze the ripple effect of MVNO regulation and also desirable ways of implementing the policy. Based on Laffont, Rey and Tirole(1998), Armstrong (1998) model, theoretical MVNO model is defined and derived implications of price, quantity in the market. According to the model, the fact that MNOs have one-way access profit leads the static efficiency by lowering its market price. In regarding the most desirable way to enhance social welfare is revealed as 'two MNOs conduct MVNO' other than 'One MNO does' or 'Structurally divided network'.

  • In the context of Sustainable development, China, the world's second-largest apparel market, is also concerned about the environmental impact of fiber waste. Currently, there is a great interest in sustainable fashion in both supply and demand in China. Based on the theory of planned behavior(TPB), the determinants of sustainable fashion consumption(SFC) of Chinese consumers were evaluated in this study: man-nature orientation(MNO) and environmental knowledge(EK) as motivation and perceived online-store accessibility(POA) and perceived money availability(PMA) as barriers. Wenjuanxing, a Chinese professional survey collection agency, conducted an online survey of millennials in Shanghai, China. The final sample size for the survey was 215. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. The results indicated that attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control significantly affected the purchase intention towards sustainable fashion products. MNO and EK influenced the attitude, whereas EK, POA, and PMA influenced perceived behavioral control. This study contributes to the TPB literature through the examination of four antecedents: MNO, EK, POA, and PMA. The findings provide valuable insights for retailers and markets based on the identification of the motivations and barriers that enhance the purchasing intention of Chinese millennials toward SFC.

Combinatorial Auction-Based Two-Stage Matching Mechanism for Mobile Data Offloading

  • In this paper, we study the problem of mobile data offloading for a network that contains multiple mobile network operators (MNOs), multiple WiFi or femtocell access points (APs) and multiple mobile users (MUs). MNOs offload their subscribed MUs' data traffic by leasing the unused Internet connection bandwidth of third party APs. We propose a combinatorial auction-based two-stage matching mechanism comprised of MU-AP matching and AP-MNO matching. The MU-AP matching is designed to match the MUs to APs in order to maximize the total offloading data traffic and achieve better MU satisfaction. Conversely, for AP-MNO matching, MNOs compete for APs' service using the Nash bargaining solution (NBS) and the Vickrey auction theories and, in turn, APs will receive monetary compensation. We demonstrated that the proposed mechanism converges to a distributed stable matching result. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm well capture the tradeoff among the total data traffic, social welfare and the QoS of MUs compared to other schemes. Moreover, the proposed mechanism can considerably offload the total data traffic and improve the network social welfare with less computation complexity and communication overhead.

An Economic Analysis of Flat Pricing for Unlimited Voice Calls : Necessary Conditions and MNO's Strategy (음성무제한 요금제경쟁의 경제적 분석 : 무제한요금제 도입 필요조건과 통신사의 선택)

  • As the gaps become narrower in interconnection fee and volume rate, the MNOs began to introduce flat pricing for unlimited voice traffic competitively in Korea wireless telecommunication market : 'unlimited talks within intra-network' by the 1st operator, followed by the 3rd operator's 'unlimited talks over all networks'. As a result, subscribers tip in toward the third ranked operator and could bring a substantial change to steadfast market structure over the last decade in Korea. This paper aims to develop a simple economic model to analyze competition with flat pricing for unlimited voice traffic, and to check whether the pricing can be appropriate for the MNOs. The results show that MNOs already step in the necessary conditions to launch flat pricing for voice traffic. It also predicts that the MNOs compete with unlimited talk over all networks and set a single fee in an equilibrium. At present, the MNOs run virtually identical pricing for unlimited talk over all networks, considering their differentiation with respect to service quality, coverage and brand preference.

  • 폐쇄적 무선망 및 단말 플랫폼의 개방화 추세에 따라 이동통신사업자(MNO)는 자사 고객 retention 및 신규 수익창출을 위해 다양한 전략을 수립하고 있다. 그리고 고객은 이러한 개방 환경에서 이동통신사업자(MNO)의 단말 및 망에 구애받지 않고 자신의 개인정보 및 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 서비스를 편리하게 이용하기를 원하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 와이브로(WiBro)가입자 인증을 위해 단말에 필수 탑재되는 UICC 에 웹 기능 및 대용량 메모리 기술을 추가하여 이를 기반으로 개인화 서비스 제공을 위한 인프라 구축 사례를 살펴본다. 먼저, UICC 기반 개인화 서비스 인프라를 구성하는 UICC 및 단말에서 구현되어야 할 SCWS 및 대용량 메모리 처리 기술을 소개하고 이를 위한 기술 요구사항을 정의한다. 그리고, 해당 UICC 및 단말을 원격에서 관리하기 위해 플랫폼에서 구현하여야 할 제어 프로토콜 기술을 살펴보고, 이를 위한 기술 요구사항을 정의한다. 다음으로 최종적으로 구축된 전체 시스템의 구성 및 서비스 흐름을 기술하고, 끝으로 이러한 인프라를 통하여 제공될 수 있는 개인화 서비스를 소개하고 향후 방향을 소개함으로써 글을 맺는다.

The Adequacy Analysis of Korean MVNO Policy (MVNO 정책의 타당성 분석)

  • In Korea MVNO was introduced in 2011 when twenty seven years had passed since Korea Mobile Telecom started mobile phone service in 1984. Whithout having its frequency bands and network facilities MVNO can resell the mobile telecom services to the consumers by purchasing MNO's service. That can bring competition more efffective that can lower communication costs through the alternatives. In the early 2000s, the need for the introduction of the MVNO has been raised already by scholars in Korea. But it wasn't until the late 2000s, rate cuts appeared to be a major policy issue, and in 2011 Korean government begin to try to introduce its own MVNO's. In may 2014, MVNO's mobile communication market share reached 6%, but Korea dose not have a firm system yet. However, if government authorities did not insist 3 mobile telecom companies system and recognize global MVNO flow quickly the national cost would be significantly reduced. In the mean time mobile telecom companies have maintained similar billing system and level of service but competed to attract consumers only. It looks like some level of mutual collision and the government cannot help recognizing the situation but it did not do any effective policy improvement effort and government only levied penalties.

Korea MVNO Policy and Adequacy Study (MVNO정책 타당성 연구)

  • In Korea MVNO was introduced in 2011 when twenty seven years had passed since Korea Mobile Telecom(now SK Telecom) started mobile phone service. MVNO can make competition more effective to lower communication costs through the alternatives. In the early 2000s, the need for the introduction of the MVNO has been raised already by scholars in Korea. But it wasn't until the late 2000s when rate cuts appeared to be a major policy issue, and Korean government introduced MVNO. In April 2015, MVNO's market share reached 8.8%, but Korea does not have a firm system yet. This rapid growth of MVNO market in Korea was made possible by consumers' demand for cheaper services and late introduction of MVNO. And telecom companies(MNO) abuse their supreme power against small and medium firm MVNOs and reserved market share using their subsidiary companies. Thus proper regulation is necessary. However, the government authorities should have recognized global MVNO flow quickly and have to make a sufficient effort to establish proper competition condition of the mobile telecom market.
