The objective of this study was to investigate the nutritional status, biochemical parameters, lipid and electrolytes concentrations of the enteral nutrition patients according to the duration of enteral nutrition. Eighteen neurosurgery patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) at K University Hospital were subjected in this study. The duration of enteral nutrition was classified into under or over six month of period. Anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary assessments were performed. Patients' intakes of energy and protein were insufficient, from 82% to 95% of their requirements. Mid-arm muscle circumference (MAMC) and mid-am muscle area (MAMA) were significantly lower in patients over six months of enteral nutrition than those in patients under six months. The subjects were malnourished as indicated by nutrition-related parameters such as hemoglobin, albumin, total lymphocyte count (TLC), tricep skinfold thickness (TSF), mid-arm circumference (MAC), MAMC, and MAMA. Serum chloride level of the patients eve, six months of enteral nutrition was lower (94.7 $\pm$ 3.4 mmo1/1) significantly as compared to that of patients (99.3 $\pm$ 3.5 mmol/ 1) under six months. Urinary sodium and chloride levels were lower in the longer time of enteral nutrition patients than those of shorter period of enteral nutrition patients (p < .05). While serum phospholipid level was higher in the patients over six months of enteral nutrition, other blood biochemical parameters and electrolyte concentrations did not show any differences with the duration of enteral nutrition. Neurosurgery patients in the ICU undergoing long-term enteral nutrition tube-feeding were malnourished and had a variety of metabolic complications. The duration of enteral nutrition could affect the patients' nutritional status, biochemical parameters, and electrolytes balance. The patients who require nutritional support over an extended time need the continuous follow-up care and monitoring by the nutrition support team for laboratory, clinical, and nutritional assessments.
Purpose: Pediatric acute liver failure (PALF) is a serious condition; however, data on PALF in developing countries are sparse, particularly concerning molecular diagnosis and liver transplantation (LT). This study aimed to determine the causes, outcomes, and prognostic factors of PALF. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of children (age <15 years) with PALF diagnosed using the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases criteria at our center from 2011 to 2016. The collected data included laboratory results, complications, outcomes, and potential factors associated with death and LT. Results: We included a total of 27 patients, with a median age of 2 years (interquartile range, 3 months to 4 years). Viral infection was the most common etiology (n=8, 30%), predominantly dengue infection (n=4). A total of 16 patients (59%) died and 11 patients survived (3 patients with LT). The prognostic factors associated with death or LT requirement were grade IV hepatic encephalopathy (p<0.01), hypotension (p=0.02), gastrointestinal bleeding (p=0.03), increased intracranial pressure (p=0.04), and higher peak serum lactate level (p=0.01). Peak serum lactate ≥6 mmoL/L had a sensitivity of 79% and a specificity of 88% for predicting mortality or the necessity of LT. Conclusion: Viral infection was the most common cause of PALF. The mortality rate remained high, and a considerable number of patients required LT. In addition to several clinical factors, peak serum lactate could be a potential marker for predicting poor outcomes in PALF.
To obtain the overall distribution patterns and characteristics of the East Sea Intermediate Water (ESIW), the historical data obtained by the Japan Maizuru Marine Observatory (MMO) and the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI) were analyzed. To obtain water characteristics of the ESIW on isopycnal surfaces, temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen were interpolated at every 0.01 interval of potential density. And then the interpolated values were averaged at the same potential density. This potential density average method preserved the salinity minimum layer more clearly compared to the depth average method. The potential density(${\sigma}_{\theta}$) range of the ESIW was $26.9{\sim}27.3$. The representative potential density of the ESIW was found to be 27.2, because the characteristics of the ESIW was clear at this density. From the horizontal distributions of physical properties on the isopycnal surface of $27.2{\sigma}_{\theta}$ it is suggested that the low salinity ESIW circulates anticlockwise over the whole basin with the high salinity intermediate water. The low salinity intermediate water extended from the northwestern part to the east along the sub-polar front and to the Ulleung Basin along the east coast of Korea.

In this paper we design STBC-OFDM systems by applying several STBC schemes to the OFEM system and show their comparative analysis results obtained through computer simulations under Rayleigh fading environments, considering the effect of channel estimation error. We first consider the space-time coding algorithms of major STBC schemes, together with their demodulation algorithms. We then select the OFDMparameters considering mobile environments and design the STBC-OFDM systems by choosing one of digital modulation schemes such as QPSK, BPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM, and 256QAM according to the transmission rate, and describe the block diagrams of the demodulator and channel estimator. We finally compare and analyze the BER performances of the STBC-OFDM systems according to the transmission rate and the number of receive antennas.

This study was performed to obtain the basic data on the serum components of several marine fish species commonly cultured in Korea. Blood samples taken from five species of fish were analyzed for various components of serum, total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), triglyceride (TG), cholesterol (CHOL), glucose (GLC), sodium (Na). Potassium (K), chloride (Cl), Phosphorus (P), lipase (LIPA), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). The fish used were coho salmon(Oncorhynchus kisutch), rock fish (Sebastes schlegeli), sea bass (Lateolabrax japonicus), olive flounder ( Paralichthys olivaceus) and parrot fish (Oplegnathus fasciatuss) reared at the Chungmu Experimental Fish Culture Satation of KORDI. TP concentration of warm-water species (2.9-5.1 g/dl) was higher than that of cold-water species, and ALB concentration was ranged at the level of 1.2-1.9 g/dl. Coho salmon showed the highest ration of A/G(1.1), and the other species were about 0.5-0.6. The concentrations of TG and CHOL, components of lipids, varied with the different species. The concentration of TG was high, but CHOL concentration was low in olive flounder, while the reversed results were shown by sea bass. The sum of these two components was the highest with 600mg/d1 in olive flounder, and about 400mg/d1 for sea bass and rock fish, and 300mg/d1 for parrot lish and coho salmon. Concentration ot GLC in coho salmon and rock fish ranged from 61 to 76mg/d1 which were about lour times higher than that of flounder. The highest lipase activity was observed in coho salmon, while it was nearly nil in flounder. The reversed tendency was found for TG concentration. Mineral concentrations of Na, Cl and K were 160-204 mmol/l, 137-183mmo1/1 and 0.5-3.1 mmol/l, respectively, but no significant difference between the species was observed. However, the concentrations of P were high in relatively active species such as coho salmon and rockfish. AST activity in all species examined was higher than that of ALT with being highest in coho salmon. The highest ALT activity was found in olive flounder.
Recently, entomopathogenic nematodes have received a considerable attention as biologicalcontrol agents. For in vitro cultivation, storage and transportation of nematodes, oxygen supply isextremely impotant due to its limited solubility and mass transfer problem. The oxygen uptake rates(OURs) of four different Steinernema species were measured in a 5L bioreactor at varying temperatures. The OURs of the Steinernema spp. were below 0.5 x mmolO'||'&'||' . min in the range of 13-17$^{\circ}$C. TheOURs (mmo102/L - min) of S. glaseri Dongrae and S. carpocapsae Pocheon strains were 0.4 x lo-', 0.75x lo-\ulcorner at 21$^{\circ}$C, 1.5 x lo-\ulcorner, 3.2 x 10-2 at 25"C, and 2.8 x lo-', 5.8 x lo-\ulcorner at 29"C, respectively. However, the OURs were not significantly altered by the agitation speed of 50-150 rpm. The specific oxygenuptake rates (qol) of S. glaseri NC, S. glaseri Dongrae, S. glaseri Mungyeong and S. carpocapsaePocheon strains were 0.3 x 0.5 x 0.3 x and 0.2 x mmolO~/cell min at 25"C,respectively. As the nematode size and temperature were increased, the qo, was also increased.the qo, was also increased.
Methane, which is emitted from natural and anthropogenic sources, is a representative greenhouse gas for global warming. Methanotrophs are widespread in the environment and play an important role in the biological oxidation of methane via methane monooxygenases (MMOs), key enzymes for methane oxidation with broad substrate specificity. Methanotrophs have attracted attention as multifunctional bacteria with promising applications in biological methane mitigation technology and environmental bioremediation. In this review, we have summarized current knowledge regarding the biodiversity of methanotrophs, catalytic properties of MMOs, and high-cell density cultivation technology. In addition, we have reviewed the recent advances in biological methane mitigation technologies using methanotrophs in field-scale systems as well as in lab-scale bioreactors. We have also surveyed information on the dynamics of the methanotrophic community in biological systems and discussed the various challenges pertaining to methanotroph-related biotechnological innovation, such as identification of suitable methanotrophic strains with better and/or novel metabolic activity, development of high-cell density mass cultivation technology, and the microbial consortium (methanotrophs and non-methanotrophs consortium) design and control technology.

The modified engineering methodology and the modified electronic circuit in classical ultrasonic principles were applied to ultrasonic aerosol nebulizer for inhalation toxicology study of cadmium aerosol. 1532.96ppm Cd nebulizing solution was used to generate cadmium aerosol for particle size analysis with the modifying source and inlet temperatures. The results of particle size analysis for cadmium aerosol were as following. The highest particle counting for source temperature 20℃ was 399.75 × 10² in inlet temperature 100℃ and particle diameter 0.75㎛. The highest particle counting for source temperature 50℃ was 399.70 × 10² in inlet temperature 50℃ and particle diameter 0.75㎛. The highest particle counting for source temperature 70℃ was 411.14 × 10² in inlet temperature 100℃ and particle diameter 0.75㎛. The ranges of geometric mean diameter were 0.74-0.79㎛ in source temperature 20℃, 0.65-0.72㎛ in source temperature 50℃, and 0.65-0.80㎛ in source temperature 70℃. The smallest geometric mean diameter was 0.65㎛ in source temperature 50, 70℃ and inlet temperature 20, 50℃, and the largest geometric mean diameter was 0.80㎛ in source temperature 70℃ and inlet temperature 100℃. The ranges of geometric standard deviation were 1.71-1.80 in source temperature 20℃, 1.27-1.61 in source temperature 50℃, and 1.27-2.29 in source temperature 70℃. The lowest geometric standard deviation was 1.27 in source temperature 50, 70℃ and inlet temperature 20, 50℃, and the highest geometric standard deviation was 2.29 in source temperature 70℃ and inlet temperature 100℃. Generated aerosol for cadmium inhalation toxicology study was polydisperse aerosol with the above geometric standard deviation 1.2. The ranges of mass median diameter(MMD) were 1.75-2.25㎛ in source temperature 20℃, 1.27-1.61㎛ in source temperature 50℃, and 1.27-2.29㎛ in source temperature 70℃. The smallest MMD was 1.27㎛ in source temperature 50, 70℃ and inlet temperature 20, 50℃, and the largest MMD was 2.29㎛ in source temperature 70℃ and inlet temperature 100℃. Cadmium chloride concentration in nebulizing solution affected the particle size and distribution of cadium aerosol in air. MMO for inhalation toxicology testing in OECD and EU is less than 3㎛ and EPA guidance is less than 4㎛. In our results, in source temperatures of 20, 50, 70℃, and inlet temperatures of 20, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250℃ were conformed to the those guidance.
Present experiment was performed in order to establish the optimum conditions for quantitation of ${\gamma}$-GTP and AGS activities in rat urine and investigate the applicability of the these enzymes in experimental assessment of nephrotoxicity in rats. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The optimal pH of Tris-BCI buffer containing glycylglycine for determination of urinary ${\gamma}$-GTP activity was 7.6(37$^{\circ}C$). 2. The Michaelis constant of urinary ${\gamma}$-GTP ranged from 1.1 to 1.2 mmol/$\ell$. 3. The optimal pH of citrate buffer for determination of urinary AGS activity was 3.6(37$^{\circ}C$). 4. The Michaelis constant of urinary AGS ranged from 0.8 to 0.9mmo1/$\ell$. 5. Coefficient of variance for within-run imprecision of urinary ${\gamma}$-GTP ranged from 3.8 to 6.4% and that of urinary AGS ranged from 2.5 to 4.1%. 6. There was no significant difference between gel-filtered samples and crude samples in the mean activity of urinary ${\gamma}$-GTP and the intra-individual differences by gel-filtration were either increased or decreased. Mean values of ${\gamma}$ -GTP activities in gel-filtered samples and crude samples were 1570 and 1590 U/$\ell$, repectively. 7. The mean activity of urinary AGS increased significantly after gel-filtration and all the individual urines revealed higher activities after gel-filtration. 8. ${\gamma}$-GTP and AGS activities were linear to 135 and 7U/$\ell$, respectively. 9. Urinary ${\gamma}$-GTP and AGS excretion before administration of potassium dichromate were 22.1 ${\pm}$ 11.2 and 0.5${\pm}$0.2 U/24hrsㆍkg body weight respectively and increased significantly to 102.3${\pm}$44.5 and 5.8${\pm}$3.30/24hrsㆍkg body weight respectively within 24 hours after administration. 10. BUN increased continuously from 24 hours following exposure to potassium dichromate in all 10 rats. From these findings it is concluded that the urinary ${\gamma}$-GTP and AGS excretions are early and sensitive indicators for nephrotoxicity assessment in rat.
