A meso-urban meteorological model (Urbanized MM5; uMM5) with urban canopy parameterization (UCP) was applied to the high-resolution simulation of meteorological fields in a complex coastal urban area and the assessment of urban impacts. Multi-scale simulations with the uMM5 in the innermost domain (1-km resolution) covering the Busan metropolitan region were performed during a typical sea breeze episode (4~8 August 2006) with detailed fine-resolution inputs (urban morphology, land-use/land-cover sub-grid distribution, and high-quality digital elevation model data sets). An additional simulation using the standard MM5 was also conducted to identify the effects of urban surface properties under urban meteorological conditions. Results showed that the uMM5 reproduced well the urban thermal and dynamic environment and captured well the observed feature of sea breeze. When comparison with simulations of the standard MM5, it was found that the uMM5 better reproduced urban impacts on temperature (especially at nighttime) and urban wind flows: roughness-induced deceleration and UHI (Urban Heat Island)-induced convergence.

In this study, the target FSICR class is 1A whose target thickness of the brash ice is 46 mm in model scale. Normally ice floes for brash ice do not exceed 2 m in full scale, so the model ice sheet was cut by about 10 cm by 10 cm using hand saws. Since the target thickness of brash ice is 46 mm, 46 mm ice sheet makes one layer brash ice. For 23 mm thickness ice sheet, two layers should be accumulated to reach 46mm brash ice thickness. For 15mm thickness ice sheet, three layers need to be accumulated as the same as those in 23 mm ice sheet. New methodology to produce a brash ice was proposed. The results showed that it would be important to use multi-layer rather than single layer possibly because of significant thrust deduction from the propeller-ice interaction in the present ice condition (FSICR 1A).
Alkali aggregate reaction affects numerous civil engineering structures and causes irreversible expansion and cracking. This work aims at developing model to predict the potential expansion of concrete containing alkali-reactive aggregates. First, the paper presents the experimental results concerning the influence of particle size of an alkali-reactive aggregate on mortar expansion studied at 0.15-0.80 mm, 1.25-2.50 mm and 2.5-5.0 mm size fractions and gives data necessary for model development. Results show that no expansion was measured on the mortars using small particles (0.15-0.80 mm) while the particles (1.25-2.50 mm) gave the largest expansions. Finally, model is proposed to simulate the experimental results by studying correlations between the measured expansions and the size of aggregates and to calculate the thickness of the porous zone necessary to take again all the volume of the gel created by this chemical reaction.
Trajectory dispersion models are used for the dispersion calculations in air quality assessments, Yellow-sand modeling, environmental planning and the emergency response. Meso-scale forcing and coastal circulations are calculated by trajectory model in the East Asia region. In this study the meteorological fields (GDAS and MM5) coupled to the trajectory model (HY-SPLIT) are applied to simulate the transport and the dispersion. Seoul is selected as a starting point of the HY-SPLIT. The sensitivity studies are performed by conducting an ensemble of simulations using the GDAS and the MM5 model for the same dispersion cases. The results in this study show a significant difference depending on the resolution of meteorological models. Additionally, in most cases of the compared tionally, results from MM5 and GDAS, the absolute and relative distance, shows significant difference and the difference increased with the increasing distance of HY-SPLIT. Therefore, for the case of small domai for twi d field distefbution over complex terrai, should be used only high model temporal or spatial resolution to improve the HY-SPLIT model results.
Early investigations focused mainly on manipulating the confinement effect to develop a reinforced concrete column with lateral hoops. Based on this legacy model, Li's model incorporated the additional confinement effect of a steel jacket. However, recent experiments on plain concrete cylinders with steel jackets revealed relatively large discrepancies in the estimates of strength enhancement and the post-peak behavior. Here, we describe a modified constitutive law for confined concrete with an unbonded external steel jacket in terms of three regions for the loading stage. We used a two-phase heterogeneous concrete model to simulate the uniaxial compression test of a $150mm{\times}300mm$ concrete cylinder with three thicknesses of steel jackets: 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, and 2.0 mm. The proposed constitutive model was verified by a series of finite element analyses using a finite element program. The damaged plasticity model and extended Drucker-Prager model were applied and compared in terms of the level of pressure sensitivity for confinement in 3D. The proposed model yielded results that were in close agreement with the experimental results.

We have analyzed the characteristics of the monthly mean sea surface winds and wind waves near the Korean marginal seas in the 2002 year on the basis of prediction results of the sea surface winds from MM5/KMA model, which is being used for the operation system at the Korea Meteorological Administration and the third generation wave model, WAVEWATCH-III. which takes the sea surface winds derived from MM5/KMA model as the initial data. Statistical comparisons have been applied with both the marine meteorological observation buoy and the TOPEX/POSEIDON satellite wave heights data to verify the model results. The correlation coefficients between the models and observation data reach up to about 60-80%, supporting that these models satisfactorily simulate the sea surface winds and wave heights even at the coastal regions except for Chilbal-Do located very close to the land. Based on these verification results, the distributions of monthly mean sea surface winds, significant wave heights, wave lengths and wave periods around the Korean marginal seas during 2002 year have been represented.

Since the treatment of edentulous patients with osseointegrated implant was first introduced more than 30 years ago, implant therapy has become one of the most important dental treatment modalities today. Based on the previous experience and knowledge, $Br{\aa}nemark\;Novum^{(R)}$ protocol was introduced with the concept of simplifying surgical and prosthetic technique and reducing healing time recently. This protocol recommends the installation of three 5mm wide diameter futures in anterior mandible and the prefabricated titanium bars for superstructure fabrication. This study was designed to analyze the stress distribution at fixture and superstructure area according to changes of fixture number, diameter and superstructure materials. Four 3-dimensional finite element models were fabricated. Model 1 - 5 standard fixtures (13mm long and 3.75mm in diameter) & superstructure consisted of type IV gold alloy and resin Model 2- 3 wide diameter fixtures (13mm long and 5.0mm in diameter) & superstructure consisted of type IV gold alloy and resin Model 3-3 wide diameter fixtures (13mm long and 5.0mm in diameter) & superstructure consisted of titanium and resin Model 4-3 wide diameter fixtures (13mm long and 5.0mm in diameter) & superstructure consisted of titanium and porcelain A 150N occlusal force was applied on the 1st molar of each model in 3 directions - vertical($90^{\circ}$), horizontal($0^{\circ}$) and oblique($120^{\circ}$). After analyzing the stresses and displacements, following results were obtained. 1. There were no significant difference in stress distribution among experimental models. 2. Model 2, 3, 4 showed less amount of compressive stress than that of model 1. However, tensile stress was similar. 3. Veneer material with a high modulus of elasticity demonstrated less stress accumulation in the superstructure. Within the limites of this study, $Br{\aa}nemark\;Novum^{(R)}$ protocol demonstrated comparable biomechanical properties to conventional protocol.
In this paper, the shear behavior of soft filling in rectangular-hollow concrete specimens was simulated using the 2D particle flow code (PFC2D). The laboratory-measured properties were used to calibrate some PFC2D micro-properties for modeling the behavior of geo-materials. The dimensions of prepared and modeled samples were 100 mm×100 mm. Some disc type narrow bands were removed from the central part of the model and different lengths of bridge areas (i.e., the distance between internal tips of two joints) with lengths of 30 mm, 50 mm, and 70 mm were produced. Then, the middle of the rectangular hollow was filled with cement material. Three filling sizes with dimensions of 5 mm×5 mm, 10 mm×5 mm, and 15 mm×5 mm were provided for different modeled samples. The parallel bond model was used to calibrate and re-produce these modeled specimens. Therefore, totally, 9 different types of samples were designed for the shear tests in PFC2D. The shear load was gradually applied to the model under a constant loading condition of 3 MPa (σc/3). The loading was continued till shear failure occur in the modeled concrete specimens. It has been shown that both tensile and shear cracks may occur in the fillings. The shear cracks mainly initiated from the crack (joint) tips and coalesced with another one. The shear displacements and shear strengths were both increased as the filling dimensions increased (for the case of a bridge area with a particular fixed length).

In order to provide basic information for the estimation of evapotranspiration in the ponded direct seeding paddy field, both field lysimeter experiment and model prediction were performed to estimate daily ET. Various methods were used to predict daily reference crop ET and crop coefficients. Measure4 mean daily ET during the 1995 growing season varied from 5.9 to 6.1 mm depending on the species, while it varied from 5.1 to 5.5 mm in 1996. Model predicted mean daily ET during the 1995 growing season varied from 3.9 to 4.9 mm depending on the prediction model, while it varied from 3.5 to 4.7 mm in 1996. The smaller ET values both measured and predicted in 1996 were caused by the low values of temperature, sunshine hours, and solar radiation. Crop coefficients varied from 1.20 to 1.50 in 1995 depending on the prediction model, while it varied from 1.10 to 1.47 in 1996. Comparison of the seven reference crop ET prediction methods used in this study shows that the Penman-Monteith method and the FAO-Radiation method gave the lowest ET while the corrected Penman method and the Hargreaves method gave the largest ET. Since crop coefficients vary to a large extent based on the prediction methods, reference crop ET prediction method should be carefully selected in irrigation planning.
