This study was carried out to develop colored-wood furniture using veneer, small-round log and fiberboard to protect forest resources through the study of minimalism. which advocates the environmental issue inherent to contemporary furniture in the postmodern era. Based on the historical and theoretical context of minimalism closely related to the environmental protection, this study suggested the technical way how to produce the environment-friendly furniture with the least use of valuable and natural log. Finally, the color-wooden furniture was developed based on the asceticism, simplification, and repetition of the minimalism in a trend of contemporary furniture design. By soaking a veneer, Psuedotsuga menziesii and small-round log, Pinus densiflora into a very-diluted organic dye, the environment-friendly and colored-wood furniture could be created in harmony with contemporary interior space, which has showed various colors such as yellow, blue, red, and green with a pastel tone. The spring wood of the colored softwood was deeply stained, while the summer wood was lightly done. By utilizing such valueless used woods which have been little in furniture production, it was possible to decrease the consumption of precious raw log such as zelkova, ebony, rose, maple, cherry, mahogany and so on. Thus, it became obvious to be able for contemporary furniture designers to produce beautiful furniture with dyed fiberboard and small-round logs pregnant with minimalism.

Minimalism is an increasingly popular lifestyle in which people deliberately seek to live with fewer possessions. However, little scientific research has been done to examine the relationships between minimalism, social value, and happiness. Two recent studies have investigated whether critical components of minimalism, such as subtraction and decluttering could lead to changes in social values and happiness. In Study 1, the participants were presented with pictures of unstable Lego structures for which they were asked to create ideas to resolve problems, either through adding new supports or removing the existing ones. Participants with a stronger tendency to use subtractive transformations reported higher happiness scores. In addition, higher scores in intrinsic value preferences were correlated with higher levels of happiness. In Study 2, cuing minimalism or consumerism using pictures led to changes in materialistic values, motivation for social engagement, and reported happiness scores. These results imply that minimalism as an alternative lifestyle can contribute to social wellbeing and increased happiness. Limitations and implications for future studies are discussed.

The change in radically changing era requires various interpretation of interior space and application according to it Minimalism shows simple and pure geometric structure and has been influencing to every aspect encompassing space till present. The features of minimalism in space is geometric structure and composition of simple and repetitive line, restrained simple space, pure and structural simplicity. When minimalism construction is discussed, the vocabulary of simplicity has been followed incidentally and has been discussed as concept of simplicity in new viewpoint through historical flow. The purpose of this study is analyzing basic features of John Pawson's ways of working and trying to define the semantics of the new simplicity concept in modern interior space. The new simplicity in John Pawson shows interactive relationship of eastern and western through basic consideration of fundamental elements such as space, light and materials. The relational simple in intermediation of the new simplicity expressed by amalgamation of eastern and western further from disparate interpretation for simplicity expressed in eastern and western is to review back the basic meaning of simplicity in minimalism. And I hope this study can offer various directions for new interior space accepting theory of the new simplicity and I think that new constructional alternative is required as physical space which can be matched with era of social, environmental chaos caused by this theory of the new simplicity.

We found the similarities and differences it the works of Italian Architects especially in 1960s Neo Rationalism and also in the products of inclination of contemporary Minimalism. Based on the moderate application of traditional architectural language and on typological prototype the Italian Architects pursued inherent logic by which the works came to the composition and association rule that show an extremely moderate expression of a spirit indispensable to Architecture. And they turned down the logic of ergonomics but they searched for the simple and prototypical form that was the architectural language strongly restrictive common and objective all through the abstraction of Architectural elements in their memories. The overcome from the forms and the methodology of thinking contain common types in Contemporary Minimalism. But Contemporary Minimalism rejects fundamentally the analogical interpretation and typological protiotype from the past.

After the Twentieth century, various movements appear by the sudden change of society. The minimalistic characters are represent in visual art, music literature and fashion. Actually Minimalism is started from the Visual Art in America at the 1960's. Minimalism seek the essence of object from the restorational character and it is characterized by simplicity, moderate design and color. Mies's "Less is More" is guiding the Architectual essence and based on the contemporary minimalistic Architecture. The purpose of this study is analyzing the characteristic tendency of Minimalism and considering the characteristic of contemporary minimalistic Architecture by studing Architects and works.and works.

Popular in the 1990s, Western Minimalism declined in popularity in the end of the century while the Oriental Mysticism and the Oriental Minimalism called “Zen Style” appeared. Fusion and Oriental Minimalism, both of which pursue traditional beauty and the essence of functionality and beauty, are combined with Japanese elements. As Oriental Minimalism is oriented towards Japan and China, we should consider the Japanese modernization process. Japan internationalized their own traditional elements after modernization. On the other hand, we only focus on tradition in a view of modernity, Japan developed their own culture whereas we followed the Western influences and trends after our culture and social structure were destroyed because of the civil war. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to find out the possibility of culture variety in interior design from the Japanese samples which modernized their culture in various sights. In other words, I researched and analyzed the expressive trends in Japanese Contemporary interior design, architecture and similarity and difference between Korea and Japan.

This study examined the image identity of the Celine fashion house, which went through a successful re-branding using its tradition and succession, a process that was heavily influenced by their new designer, Phoebe Philo. The purpose of this study is as follows: first, to encourage the use of the fashion house in a domestic fashion market. Second, to increase awareness about image identity. Third, to provide suggestions of maintaining sustainable brand by examining a fashion house, which does not follow fast-changing fashion trends but rather leads and creates fashion styles. The study extracted the characteristics of the Celine fashion house by analyzing data, which were collected from fashion literature, its designs, and its marketing. From the data, the study found ways that a brand could use to develop continually. Phoebe Philo re-branded the Celine by using minimalism to redesign its logo and create a new brand image. Her method included the use of diverse and vivid colors via color-blocking, a feature of modern minimalism. This is a modern minimalism, which differentiates itself from others with the elaborate tailoring and delicate detailing effectively. The modern minimalism like this has, caused the new mood beyond the flow of certain art trends and led the revolution, not the advent, of the minimalism in the 1990s. This study believes that the aspect of the fashion-house following and succeeding the tradition is not just in the fashion house. This study should be seen as a significant step forward at a time when we desperately need the continuation of the unique brand recognized as fashion house in the long-term domestically.

Minimalism describes various movements in art and design, which flourished mainly in the USA in the 1960s. Its popularity, however, was cut short by post-modernism. In the mid-1990s, minimalism was given a second breath of life and became culturally popular, especially in areas such as design and art the minimalist movement launched some trends that supplanted post-modernism and whose influences still cast a heavy shadow on society today. From this point of view, in analyzing the form and characteristics of the artists and their work from the 1960s, which were the first generation of the minimalist furniture designers, it is necessary to understand and analyze contemporary artists and their art. In this study, four American minimal artists in the furniture design field, Donald Judd, Richard Tuttle, Scott Burton, and Richard Artschwager were studied along with their works. The results show the three distinct characteristics of minimalist furniture design featuring strict and simple geometric shapes: the form, which was influenced by early modernism variety and origin, which are formative of the materials and the way they are used as influenced by surrealism and a new concept of art such as aesthetics for the little things, which echoes influences of Dadaism, and especially of earlier artists such as Marcel Duchamp.
