A Design of MILENAGE Algorithm-based Mutual Authentication Protocol for The Protection of Initial Identifier in LTE (LTE 환경에서 초기 식별자를 보호하기 위한 MILENAGE 알고리즘 기반의 상호인증)

  • In LTE environment, which is 4th generation mobile communication systems, there is concern about private information exposure by transmitting initial identifier in plain text. This paper suggest mutual authentication protocol, which uses one-time password utilizing challenge-response and AES-based Milenage key generation algorithm, as solution for safe initial identification communication, preventing unique identification information leaking. Milenage key generation algorithm has been used in LTE Security protocol for generating Cipher key, Integrity key, Message Authentication Code. Performance analysis evaluates the suitability of LTE Security protocol and LTE network by comparing LTE Security protocol with proposed protocol about algorithm operation count and Latency.Thus, this paper figures out initial identification communication's weak points of currently used LTE security protocol and complements in accordance with traditional protocol. So, it can be applied for traditional LTE communication on account of providing additional confidentiality to initial identifier.

  • 2 세대 GSM 통신에서는 SIM 을 이용하여 망이 사용자를 인식하는 단방향 인증 서비스만 제공한다. 하지만, 3 세대 비동기 방식의 IMT-2000 에서는 2 세대 인증 메커니즘의 취약성 보완 및 양방향 인증을 위해서 새로운 인증 프로토콜을 설계하였다. 이에 3GPP 는 인증 메커니즘의 핵심 알고리즘으로 Milenage를 사용할 것을 권고하고 사업자는 이를 사용하여 인증 서비스를 제공할 것으로 예상된다. 본 논문은 JCOS 기반의 USIM 플랫폼에서 상호인증 기능을 수행하는 자바 애플릿 구현에 관한 것이다. 결과에 관해 에뮬레이터 환경에서 테스트하여 표준문서에서 제시하는 값과 동일함을 확인하였다.

An analysis on the S-boxes of block ciphers in 3GPP (3GPP 블록 암호의 S-box 안전성 분석)

  • 3GPP proposed f8 and f9 algorithms based on the block cipher KASUMI to provide the data confidentiality and integrity over a radio access link for IMT-2000(W-CDMA). Also 3GPP proposed Milenage algorithm based on the block cipher Rijndael to provide an example set for 3GPP authentication and key generation functions. In order to analyze the security of 3GPP algorithms, we must go ahead an analysis of security of KASUMI and Rijndael. Since S-box is an important point of security of block cipher, in this paper we analyze the S-boxes of KASUMI and Rijndael and compare the S-boxes of KASUMI with the S-box of Rijndael. Although KASUMI S9-box is bad for AC and SAC, we find that AC of KASUMI FI function containing S7-box and S9-box is equal to AC of Rijndael S-box and SAC of KASUMI FI function is better than SAC of Rijndael S-box.

  • Authentication mechanism for W-CMDA IMT-2000 system is developed by 3GPP TSG SA WG3. We simulated the mechanism and algorithms. In this paper, we overview 3GPP authentication procedures and present results of our simulation. We validate the mechanism and parameters transmitted during authentication procedures and we also discuss parameters which are unclear in specification.

  • The development of mobile phone is growing fast in the all over the world. Besides the basic voice communication, many multimedia services and global roaming service are capable in the 3rd generation mobile telecommunication. Because mobile phone has been the essential tool to communicate, the protection of privacy and the safe transmission are critical ones. In synchronous, asynchronous mode IMT2000 service, the mechanism of mutual authentication and generation of cipher key and integrity key are implemented in smart card chip called UIM, USIM. In this paper, we describe the authentication mechanism of 3GPP and 3CPP2 and its implementation results. Then, we specify a few problems which are not defined in standard.
