Etching Characteristics of Micro Blaster for MEMS Applications (MEMS 공정에 적용하기 위한 마이크로 블라스터 식각 특성)

  • Abrasive blaster is similar to sand blaster, and effectively removes hard and brittle materials. Exiting abrasive blaster has applied to rough working such as deburring and rough finishing. As the need for machining of ceramics, semiconductor, electronic devices and LCD are increasing, micro abrasive blaster was developed, and became the inevitable technique to micromachining. This paper describes the performance of the micro blaster in MEMS process of glass and succeed in domestically producing complete micro blaster. Diameter of hole and width of line in this etching is 100 ${\mu}m$ ~ 1000 ${\mu}m$. Experimental results showed good performance in micro channel and hole in glass wafer. Therefore, this micro blaster could be effectively applied to the micro machining of semiconductor, micro PCR chip.

  • Micro cell stimulation device is interested in many researchers because it has several advantages such as saving time and reagents. We introduce new micro-bioreactor using micro bead and conduct cell stimulation experiments to verify effective time because cell have operated by cell-cycle (G1, S, G2, and M phase). Micro-bioreactor was made by soft lithography and CAPE (calf pulmonary artery endothelial cell) was cultured in PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) micro device for 12 hour and cell starvation process was performed for 24 hours. Micro glass beads were rolled only by slating device every hour during 15 hour because of minimizing other stimulation force like flow and pressure. The result represents that cells under exposed under micro bead stimulation show higher growth rate than normal condition and earlier and later stimulation time are more effective.

  • In the electronic, medical, aerospace and automobile industries, many products and parts are manufactured by joining. Recently, as these get smaller, micro joining is becoming more and more important. In this study, micro wire-to-micro wire parallel joining was performed using single mode fiber laser. Maximum power of the fiber laser is 100 W. The CCD(Charge- Coupled Device, CCD) camera to observe the specimen was made up. The objective was applied to micro joining system to make a small spot size of laser beam. In order to control the target position, micro-multi-axis-stage was set up. This paper presents results for the single mode fiber laser joining of micro wires.

  • SU-8 can be implemented as a mask for micro Abrasive Jet Machining (micro-AJM) process [1]. In this paper, we will evaluate the quality of micro grooving result on glass substrate by micro-AJM process which using SU-8 as a mask. It was evaluated on width and edge profile of the micro grooving. The result was having distortion compare with the master film used to pattern the SU-8 mask. The value of distortion with other properties which came along with it, such as depth and surface roughness, can be optimized in order to fabricate micro-channel for micro-fluidic application.

  • The micro-extruding die is a die for manufacturing of fine-wire by extruding process. The fine-wire made from the micro-extruding can be effectively applied to fields of semiconductor parts and medical parts etc. It is predicted that the demand of fine-wire in industry is more and more increasing. In this study $\Phi$ 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ micro-drill which is coated with diamond is used for drilling of super micro-hole sues. For the machining of taper parts of entrance and exit, drill having $\Phi$ 9mm inclination angle 20$^{\circ}$ is used. This is useful for anti tool-breakage in drilling process. After micro-drilling, the polishing process by abrasive is carried out for increasing surface roughness.

  • Micro electrochemical machining was investigated to machine micro internal features. This method uses a micro disk tool electrode and can easily machine micro features inside of a micro hole, which are very difficult to make by the conventional processes. In order to limit the machining area and localize the electrochemical dissolution, ultra short pulses were used as power source and a micro disk electrode with insulating layer on its surface was used as a tool electrode. By electrochemical process, internal features, such as groove array, were fabricated on the stainless steel plate.

  • Vibrational micro-forming of pyramidal shape patterns was conducted for an Al superplastic alloy, Al 5083 and a Zr-based bulk metallic glass, $Zr_{62}Cu_{17}Ni_{13}Al_8$. A vibrational micro-forming system was specially designed for generating vibrational load by combining a PZT actuator with a signal generator. Single crystal Si micro dies with wet-etched pyramidal patterns were used as master dies for vibrational micro-forming. The micro-formed pattern height was increasing with increasing the frequency of the vibrational load. In particular, the vibrationally-microformed pattern height was similar or even higher than the statically-microformed pattern height when the load frequency exceeded about 125 kHz. It was also observed that the crystal grains affect the surface quality of the microformed pattern and the distribution of the pattern height in the die cavity array.

  • The purpose of this research was to develope components of micro solid propellant thruster. Micro solid propellant thruster had four basic components: combustion chamber, nozzle, solid propellant and micro heater for ignition. A performance of micro heater and characteristic of solid propellant was investigated. Micro heater was fabricated by conventional MEMS process and Platinum layer was used for heating element. Effect of geometry parameters on micro heater was tested. The temperature responses of heater with respect to each parameters was compared for a given electrical power. The characteristic of solid propellant(HTPB/AP) was investigated to obtain burning velocity in small chamber. Additionally, a capacity of filling propellant with high viscosity in small chamber was checked to guarantee for the micro fabrication.

  • 본 연구에서는 광 픽업의 소형, 경량 제작을 위해 MEMS 기술을 이용하여 planar micro optics 방법으로 광 픽업을 구성하는 micro lens, actuator, beamsplitter 등을 설계, 제작하고 집적화한 픽업헤드를 구성하여 그 특성을 분석하였다. 특성분석 결과 disk에 focusing 되는 beam의 형상은 circle type의 비교적 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있었고 beam spot size는 약 22$\mu m$로 실제 system에서 요구되는 0.9$\mu m$이내의 beam spot size에 비해 약 25배 가량 큰 beam spot size를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • In this paper Research development about a micro metal forming manufacturing system has been developed. A micro forming system has been achieved in Japan and it's developed micro press is limited to single forming process. To coincide with the purpose to be more practical, research and development is necessary about the press which the multi forming process is possible. We set the development of the equipment including micro deep drawing, micro punching and micro restriking process to the goal. To achieve this goal, Research about micro forming process to be related to multi process forming must be preceded first. Material selection and analysis about micro forming process are accomplished in this paper. And the basis research to make actual system is accomplished.
