Amygdalin has been used for a long time as an anticancer agent. But because of its toxicity, it is difficult to administer continuously for treatment of cancer. This paper was attempted to reduce the side effect and toxicity of amygdalin. That is, effects of cysteine and streptomycin on the toxicity of amygdalin were investigated in rats orally administered amygdalin. 1. The group administered only amygdalin 400 mg/kg was effected on the lung and body weight, hematocrit, hemoglobin, clotting time, SGOT and albumin value. That is, lung and body weight, hematocrit hemoglobin and albumin value were significantly decreased. SGOT and clotting time were significantly increased compared with those of normal group. 2. Weight of lung was significantly increased in the C group (administred amygdalin 400 mg/kg and cysteine 300 mg/kg), D group (amygdalin 400 mg/kg and streptomycin 10 mg/kg), E group (amygdalin 400 mg/kg, streptomycin 10 mg/kg and cysteine 200 mg/kg)and F group (amygdalin 400 mg/kg, streptomycin 10 mg/kg and cysteine 300 mg/kg). 3. Values of hematocrit and hemoglobin were significantly increased, and clotting time was significantly decreased, in the I group and F group compared with those of A group. 4. SGOT was significantly decreased in the C group, E group and F group compared with that of A group. 5. The blood cyanide concentration was significantly decreased in the E group and F group compared with that fo A group. 6. In short, coadministration of cysteine and streptomycin are considered to reduce the toxicity of amygdalin in rats orally administered.
Glehnia littoralis is known as an edible and medicinal plant using green loaves and mature roots of plant. In the present paper, the influence of plant growth regulators on callus induction and plant regeneration was investigated. Callus induction and regeneration occurred from leaf and petiole explants in Glehnia littoralis. Optimal condition of plant growth regulators for callus induction from leaf and petiole explants was MS basal medium supplemented with 2mg/L 2,4-D and 2mg/L BA. The frequency of callus induction was higher in petiole explant than leaf. When the callus was cultured on MS basal medium supplemented with 0∼1 mg/L IAA, 0∼1mg/L NAA and 0∼2mg/L BA for about 65 days, the most effective plant growth regulators on plant regeneration from callus were 1mg/L NAA and 2mg/L BA. The plantlets acclimatized successfully and grown in vermiculite matrix.
This study was performed to investigate the antimicrobial effects of Ampelopsis brevipedunculata ethanol-extract on food spoilage or foodborne disease microorganism. The antimicrobial activity of Ampelopsis brevipedunculata extract was determined by a paper disc method. The extract exhibited growth inhibiting activities in a concentration dependent manner on 7 species of microorganisms. The extract of Ampelopsis brevipedunculata showed the highest antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli O157:H7. The growth inhibitory effects of the extract at the concentration of 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000 mg/L on food poisoning microorganism were determined against Salmonella typhimurium, Yersinia enterocolitica, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Staphylococcus aureus. The growth of microorganisms was not affected by the extract at the concentration up to 250 mg/L, but was significantly (p<0.05) inhibited by the extract at the concentration higher than 500 mg/L. The results in the present study demonstrate antimicrobial effects of Ampelopsis brevipedunculata ethanol-extract against foodborne pathogens, suggesting that Ampelopsis brevipedunculata could be an effective natural antibacterial agent in food.

This paper presents an easy way to prepare carbon dioxide sorbent by using commercially available fumed silica particles (AEROSIL). AEROSIL was impregnated with various concentration of polyethyleneimine (PEI) in methanol and $CO_2$ capture ability was analyzed by thermo gravity analysis (TGA). The $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of 50 wt% PEI-impregnated AEROSIL was 126.2 mg/g-sorbent at $75^{\circ}C$ and this capacity was substantially higher than that of the mesoporous silica such as HMS (101.0 mg/g-sorbent) and MSU-J (66.1 mg/g-sorbent).

This paper presents a process optimization of antireflection (AR) coating on crystalline Si solar cells. Theoretical and experimental investigations were performed on a double-layer AR(DLAR) coating of MgFe$_2$/GeO$_2$. We investigated GeO$_2$ films as an AR layer because they have a proper refractive index of 2.46 and demonstrate the same lattice constant as Si substrate. RF sputter grown GeO$_2$ film showed deposition temperature strong dependence. The GeO$_2$ at 400$\^{C}$ exhibited a strong (111) preferred orientation and the lowest surface roughness of 6.87 $\AA$. Refractive index of MgFe$_2$film was measured as 1.386 for the most of growth temperature. An optimized DLAR coating showed a reflectance as low as 2.04% in the wavelengths ranged from 0.4 ㎛ to 1.1 ㎛. Solar cells with a structure of MgFe$_2$/GeO$_2$/Ag/N$\^$+//p-type Si/P$\^$+//Al were investigated with the without DLAR coatings. We achieved the efficiency of solar cells greater than 15% with 3.12% improvement with DLAR coatings. Further details about MgFe$_2$,GeO$_2$ films, and cell fabrication parameters are presented in this paper.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of additives in low sidestream cigarette papers, such as Mg$(OH)__2,\;TiO_2\;and\;KH_{2}PO_4$ on the delivery of mainstream and sidestream smoke. From the analysis of tar and nicotine in sidestream and mainstream smoke, the delivered ratios of tar and nicotine by sidestream to mainstream smoke in common cigarette paper were 5.32 and 8.60, respectively. However, the delivered ratios of those of the paper containing $Mg(OH)_2\;were\;2.25\~3.23,\;4.86\~7.14,\;Mg(OH)_2\;and\;KH_{2}PO_4\;were\;2.12\~2.92,\;4.67\~6.89,\;TiO_2\;was\;3.21,\;7.51 $ respectively. The deliver patterns of semi-volatile components in the cigarettes were similar each there, but a slight different pattern in the amount was observed depending on the kinds of compounds added in cigarette papers. In the cigarettes made of $Mg(OH)_2$ added paper, the aromatic components such as benzene, toluene and phenol were generated more while the aliphatic components like neophytadiene, ethyl decanoate were delivered less than the cigarettes made of common cigarette papers. However, the cigarettes manufactured with $Mg(OH)_2\;and\;KH_2PO_4$ added paper showed an opposite trend. The cigarettes made of $TiO_2$ added paper showed relatively low delivery in the most compounds measured. In sensory evaluation, cigarette papers tested were noticed a distinguishable sensory character between the low sidestream smokes with additive cigarette papers except $TiO_2$ added one. Moreover, aroma patterns detected by a electronic nose system in TPM were a similar tendency.

The optimum N concentrations incorporated as pre-planting nutrient charge fertilizer were determined for seedling raising using cylindrical paper pots. A root medium was formulated by blending of peat moss (particles smaller than 2.84 mm were 80-90%) and perlite (1 to 3 mm) with the ratio of 7:3 (v/v). The treatment N concentrations incorporated during the root medium formulation were adjusted to 0, 150, 250, 500, and $750mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and the concentrations of essential nutrients except N were equal in all treatments. After making of paper pots and putting into the 40-cell tray, the seeds of Chinese cabbage ('Chunmyeong Bom Baechu') and pak-choi ('Hanog cheonggyeongchae') were sown. During the raising of seedlings, weekly analysis of medium pH, EC and concentrations of inorganic elements were conducted. After 21 and 20 days after seed sowing of Chinese cabbage and pak-choi, the growth of the above-ground parts were measured and contents of inorganic elements in the plant tissues were analyzed. During the growing period, pH of the root media rose gradually and the EC decreased rapidly at week 3. The pH of root media at harvest was in the range of 5.3 to 5.9 in Chinese cabbage and 4.93 to 5.39 in pak-choi. Growth of the aboveground parts in terms of fresh and dry weight in both the plants were the highest in the $250mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ N treatment and the lowest in the control treatment. The elevation of pre-planting N concentrations in root medium resulted in the increase of tissue N content and decrease of P, Ca, and Mg contents. The regression equation derived from the influence of varied pre-planting N concentrations on dry weight of above-ground tissue were $y=-0.0036x^2+0.0021x+0.0635$ ($R^2=0.9826$) in Chinese cabbage and $y=-0.16x^2+0.0009x+0.032$ ($R^2=0.991$) in pak-choi. When the low critical concentration of pre-plant N is taken at the point where dry weight of above-ground tissue is 10% less than maximum (0.40 g in Chinese cabbage and 0.16 g in pak-choi), those point are 0.36 g and 0.144 g per plant in Chinese cabbage and pak-choi, respectively. The lower critical N concentrations of root media calculated from the regression equations are $196mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for Chinese cabbage and $187mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for pak-choi. These results indicate that optimum pre-plant N concentrations for seedling raising using paper pots are in the range of 196 to $250mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for Chinese cabbage and 187 to $250mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for pak-choi.
Waste paper cup was sulfonated to be used as ion exchanger. Removal characteristic of copper and lead ion by prepared ion exchanger was investigated. The sulfonation was conformed by the high intensity band of $SO_3H$ group around 1100~$1160cm^{-1}$. The synthesized ion exchanger had greater removal ability for copper and lead ion than the original waste paper cup. Ion exchange system reached the final equilibrium plateau within 30min. The maximum removal capacities $q_{max}$ were calculated as 9.79mg/g fur copper and 15.95mg/g for lead, respectively. The affinity of lead based on a weight was higher than that of copper. The ion exchange phenomena appeared to follow a typical Freundlich isotherm.

AlN is a promising material for wide band gap and high-frequency electronics device due to its wide bandgap and high thermal conductivity. AlN has advantages as materials for power semiconductors with a larger breakdown field, and a smaller specific on-resistance at high voltage. The growth of a p-type AlN epilayer with high conductivity is important for a manufacturing an AlN-based applications. In this paper, Mg doped AlN epilayers were grown by a mixed-source HVPE. Al and Mg mixture were used as source materials for the growth of Mg-doped AlN epilayers. Mg concentration in the AlN was controlled by modulating the quantity of Mg source in the mixed-source. Surface morphology and crystalline structure of AlN epilayers with different Mg concentrations were characterized by FE-SEM and HR-XRD. XPS spectra of the Mg-doped AlN epilayers demonstrated that Mg was doped successfully into the AlN epilayer by the mixed-source HVPE.
Chitosan, second largest biomass after cellulose on earth, has potential for use as functional food package due to its antibacterial activity. However, due to high melting temperature of chitosan, chitosan films have been made by casting method. Because gelatin has relatively low molting temperature depending upon amount of plasticizer added, it was added to chitosan to produce commercially feasible film. The objective of the current study was to determine optimum blend ratio and amount of chitosan/gelatin blend solutions against antibacterial activities for extruder resin. Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579 and Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 15313) and -negative bacteria (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Salmonella enteritidis IFO 3313) were used. Paper (8 mm) diffusion and optical density methods were used to evaluate effect of different blending ratio solutions on the inhibition of bacterial growth. Measured clear none size ranged from 8 mm to 18.07 mm in paper diffusion test. For B. cereus, E. coli, and S. enteritidis, addition of $50\;{\mu}L$ blend solution (chitosan/gelatin = 2/8: 0.3 mg) resulted in clear zone on paper disc. In L. monocytogenes, inhibition effect was observed with 0.6 mg chitosan (chitosan/gelatin=4/6). Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of B. cerues, L. monocytogenes, E. coli, and S. enteritidis with addition of chitosan were 0.1461, 0.2419, 0.0980, and 0.0490 mg/mL, respectively, These results indicate possibility of producing commercially feasible film with addition of optimum chitosan/gelatin amount.
