We report five patients of esophageal injuries confirmed by clinical signs and radiological evidences. They include a partial tear and a perforation which were not noticed during the operation, a perforation which was primarily repaired during the operation, and two perforations which occurred during the reoperations for the removal of mal-positioned screws or plate. The partial tear was not repaired. The perforation which occurred during the operation was primarily sutured and didn't receive further treatment. Two perforations which occurred during the reoperations were treated by irrigation, debridement with surgical drainage, and systemic antiobiotics. One who was diagnosed later after the operation showed the poorest outcome and required longest hospital days among our series. Early detection and appropriate treatment of esophageal injury following anterior spinal surgery can only improve the prognosis by preventing secondary complications.

It is well known that an encoder or a resolver is necessary to obtain the position data for speed or position control Generally utilized speed sensors are mal-affected by the EMI, dusty, and high temperature surroundings. Therefore, the speed and position sensorless controls using observers have been studied widely. In this paper, the binary observer which is composed of two feedback regulation loops to control the speed of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is applied. One loop compensates the control input directly like the sliding mode control, and the other one compensates the system parameters indirectly. This observer is constructed on the foundation of variable structure control on the foundation of variable structure control theory and has the inertial term for the varying parameter. The validities of this proposed method is proved by experiments.

The secretion capacity of two E. coli strains (JM109 and AF1000) was evaluated through the expression of two human proinsulin fusion proteins using the translocation signal sequence from Staphylococcal protein A (SpA). Although a 7 to 11-fold difference in the expression levels was attained by the use of different promoters (SpA and malK promoters) and copy-number vectors (700 and 50 copies per cell), the maximum translocation rates for all the systems were around 140,000 amino acids $cell^{-1} min^{-1}$. Moreover, the secretion capacity was found to be independent of the size of the exiting peptide and its translational rate.

Domestic anthracite contains a large amount of fine particles, which causes to fire the back side of the boiler and to form the clinker deteriorating the combustion efficiency. At this time, the fine limestone adsorbents for a desulphurization agent may be used to facilitate an aggravation of the boiler, so that fine mode of limestone (<0.1mm) has been used no more than $25\%$ in local power stations of Korea. The present test carried out with an in-situ boiler, however, showed that higher content $(up\;to\;50\%)$ of fine limestone particles did not entail any mal-function. In addition, the desulphurization was found to be as good as the old mode of limestone adsorbents.

Effects of transglutaminase (TG) on physicochemical properties of dough prepared with 20% resistant starch (RS)-added wheat flour were investigated. RS levels of wheat flours added with native wheat starch (NS), Hi-maize (RS2), retrograded (RS3), and cross-linked (RS4) wheat starches were 2.97, 11.88, 5.79, and 9.09%, respectively. Peak viscosity of NS-added flour was higher, whereas setback was lower, than those added with other resistant starches. TG had no effect on pasting behaviors of RS-added flours. Water absorption ranged from 66.5 to 79.0%, and development time increased with RS addition. TG increased tensile strength of dough after fermentation and bread volume, due to well-developed gluten network resulting from cross-linking facilitated by TG Addition of TG decreased hardness of baguettes, with RS2-added baguette showing lowest value. These results indicate addition of TG enhanced eating quality of RS-added breads.

Fuzzy logic ignores some information in the reasoning process. Neural networks are powerful tools for the pattern processing, but, not appropriate for the logical reasoning. To model human knowledge, besides pattern processing capability, the logical reasoning capability is equally important. Another new neural network called neural logic network is able to do the logical reasoning. Because the fuzzy inference is a fuzzy logical reasoning, we construct fuzzy inference network based on the neural logic network, extending the existing rule- inference. network. And the traditional propagation rule is modified. For the search strategies to find out the belief value of a conclusion in the fuzzy inference network, we conduct a simulation to evaluate the search costs for searching sequentially and searching by means of search priorities.

분산전원이 연계된 배전계통의 경우에는 분산전원의 출력 용량의 여부에 따라 양방향의 전력조류가 발생할 가능성이 있어, 계통운용상 여러 가지의 문제점이 야기될 수 있다. 특히, 태양광발전이 배전선로에 연계되어 운전되는 경우, 동일 뱅크의 타 배전선로에서 사고가 발생하면 태양광발전이 연계된 건전한 배전선로의 보호협조기기(리클로져)가 오동작하는 사고가 발생하는 경우가 실 계통에서 빈번하게 발생하고 있다.이에 의하여 건전한 선로의 부하가 정전을 경험하는 심각한 문제점이 발생한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 대칭좌표법을 이용하여 모델링과 수계산을 통해 상기의 보호기기의 오동작 메카니즘과 문제점을 분석하고, 이에 대한 개선 방안을 제시하였다.

Many Asian countries operate the national quality award systems. Most of the evaluation criteria of the award systems are generally based on the MalCom Baldrige National Quality Award System of U.S.A. which started since 1987. But their operation systems for awards are different by countries. Comparing the differences among them can give a good benchmark for Korean Quality Award systems. There are poor empirical results that the Korean Quality Awards systems improve the performances of the organizations awarded. This paper proposes some suggestions for the effective operations of Korean quality award systems through the comparison among Asian countries' awarding systems.

The fine structure of HeLa cells treated with several mycotoxin-producing fungi (Aspergillus flavus ATCC 15517, Aspergillus parastiticus RIB 1037, Penicillium toxicarium RIB 4002, Penicillium cirinum SWU)238, Penicillium islandicum IFO 5235, Penicillium tadum IFO 5787 and Pencillium brunneum RIB 1172) has been examined and some details have been descried. The normal HeLa cell have numerous microvilli, large ovoid nucleus, pleomorphic mitochondria, electron-dense body, Golgi complex, mid-body and endoplasmic reticulum etc. Certain specific structural changes induced by culture filtrates of several mycotoxin-producing fungi have been noted. These alterations induced disappearance of Golgi complex, rER vacuolization, nucleolus attachment to the nuclear envelope nad appearance of certain vacuoles. There were not any changes by the treatment of culture filtrates of non-toxic fungi and only cell debris of some specimens can be observed by the injury of culture filtrates. The experimental animals treated with mycotoxin-producing fungi (Aspergillus flavus ATCC 15517, Aspergillus parasilicus RIB 1037, Penicillum citrinum SWU 238, Penicillium toxicarium RIB 4002, and Penicillium islandicum IFO 5235) were mal cells treated with culture filtrates.
