  • One of the most important issues in Wireless Sensor Networks is to save energy of the sensor node. But transmission latency is also the problem to solve for some applications such as military surveillance, object tracking. In these applications sensor node needs to send lots of data in limited time when an even such as object appearance occurs. So a delay efficient data transmission method is required. In this paper we propose a MAC protocol adequate for those applications. This paper proposed a low delay data transmission mechanism for military surveillance in wireless sensor networks. In the MAC protocol, a receiver node sends another beacon frame to sender node after receiving data packet. Using this second beacon frame, fast hop-to-hop transmission can be performed. Results have shown that the proposed MAC control mechanism outperformed RI-MAC protocol in the terms of latency.

  • A car accident on a highway occurs a chain-reaction collision because of a vehicle's fast velocity. In order to prevent it, the accident vehicle should broadcast a safe message to its neighbors. If there are many neighbor nodes, a frame collision probability is high. To solve this, it was proposed for a system as a previous study to send a safe message without frame-collision using separating channels. However, the separation of multiple channels make feasibility low because of increasing hardware's development cost and complexity. In this paper, we proposes a TDMA-based MAC protocol using a single channel. As a result, we show the frame reception success rate of our protocol was almost the same as the previous protocol.

  • The MAC protocol of HiperLAN/2 is based on TDMA/TDD. The radio channels are assigned by AP(Access Point) that is centrally operated. Mobile terminal that data transmission is necessary to uplink requests radio resource to AP through RCH channels. The changing number of RCHs in each MAC frame is important because too many RCHs may result in a waste of radio resources and too few RCHs may result in many access collisions and prolong time that connect to AP. Therefore, number of RCH should be allocated properly according to traffic. From these viewpoints, this paper proposes an advanced scheme that dynamically changed the number of RCH which is based on the number of success and collision of RR message in previous MAC frame. To prove efficiency of proposed scheme, lots of simulations are conducted and analyzed.

  • IEEE 802.11n is an ongoing next-generation WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) standard that supports a very high-speed connection with more than 100Mb/s data throughput measured at the MAC(Medium Access Control) layer. Study trends of IEEE 802.11n show two aspects, enhanced data throughput using aggregation among packets in MAC layer, and better data rates adapting MIMO(Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) in PHY(Physical) layer. But, the former doesn't consider wireless channel and the latter doesn't consider aggregation among packets for reality. Therefore, this paper analyzes data throughput for IEEE 802.11n considering MAC and PHY connection. A-MPDU(Aggregation-MAC Protocol Data Unit) and A-MSDU(Aggregation-MAC Service Unit) is adapted considering multi-service in MAC layer, WLAN MIMO TGn channel using SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) is adapted considering MIMO and wireless channel in PHY layer. Consequently, Simulation results shows throughput between A-MPDU and A-MSDU. Also, We use Ns-2(Network simulator-2) for reality.

  • The visible light communication takes advantages of LED and PD for communication and is considered as a next generation wireless communication technology. It can support variety indoor applications. Especially, Visible LAN service has drawn much attention due to high data rate and no interference with existing WPAN system as well as high efficiency in illumination. However, existing MAC protocol occurs a high communication delay due to uplink collision and backoff time. In this paper, to reduce packet delay, we propose an enhanced MAC protocol based on FDD where the time difference between uplink frame and downlink frame transmission is utilized. Through computer simulations, we verified that the proposed MAC protocol outperforms the existing MAC protocol in terms of average packet delay.

  • As underwater environment monitoring system's interest has increased, the research is proceeding about underwater acoustic sensor network. Underwater sensor network can be applicable to many fields, such as underwater environment monitoring, underwater resource exploration, oceanic data collection, military purposes, etc. It is essential to define the PHY-MAC protocol for revitalization of the underwater acoustic sensor network which is available utilization in a variety of fields. However, underwater acoustic sensor network has to implement by consideration of underwater environmental characteristics, such as limited bandwidth, multi-path, fading, long propagation delay caused by low acoustic speed. In this paper, we define frequency of adjusted PHY protocol, network topology, MAC protocol, PHY-MAC interface, data frame format by consideration of underwater environmental characteristics. We also present system configuration of our implementation and evaluate performance based on our implementation with test in real underwater field.

  • Recently, the most brand new vehicles contain a lot of ECU for comfortable and safety driving environments. For efficient communication network among ECUs, almost car manufactures use CAN protocol which enables to decrease the number of communication lines dramatically and ensures higher data transmission reliability. However, CAN dose not ensure authentication of CAN data frame. So it is vulnerable to replay-attack on CAN data frame. This paper proposes the practical message authentication technique for In-vehicle CAN. To transmit data and MAC together, it is very useful to use the short length of MAC after considering limited space of CAN data frame. However to ensure safety of MAC, additional technique is required. We suggested a message authentication technique that can be usefully applied to build a safety network inside the vehicle because it considers limited data payload of CAN.

  • MAC protocol for WBAN performs CSMA/CA(:Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance)algorithm that handles traffic which occurs in emergency with top priority in order to deal with variable data of sensor node for medicine. Emergency message that node sends undergoes collision and delay of transmission by retransmission of emergency message and waste of energy by retransmission. This paper suggests algorithm that minimizes loss of frame caused by collision and applies different backoff parameters by setting order of priority between MAC instruction frame and data frame in CSMA/CA algorithm case which applies order of priority queuing to improve aforementioned problem. According to performance evaluation, it has been found that using suggested MAC protocol showed lower collision probability, higher packet transmission processing ratio and lower packet loss compared with using IEEE 802.15.6.

  • In this paper, we proposed WBAN system model to management an application that requires low rate data transfer in IEEE 802.15.4. We have to use different wireless sensor network technology to transfer different date rate and emergency message in medical application service. A suitable system model for WBAN and a WBAN MAC protocol in order to solve these existing system problems are proposed. Firstly, the priority queuing was applied to contention access period, and the system model which could guarantee transmission of a MAC command frame was proposed. Secondly, the MAC frame was newly defined to use the system model which was proposed above. Thirdly, WBAN CSMA/CA back-off algorithm based on data transmission rate was proposed to enhance data throughput and transmission probability of the data frame which does not have priority in the proposed WBAN system. The proposed algorithm is designed to be variable CSMA/CA algorithm parameter, depending on data rate. For the evaluation of WBAN CSMA/CA algorithm, we used Castalia. As a result of the simulation, it is found that the proposed system model can not only relieve loads of data processing, but also probability of collision was decreased.
