  • Let M be a right R-module, (S, ${\leq}$) a strictly totally ordered monoid which is also artinian and ${\omega}:S{\rightarrow}Aut(R)$ a monoid homomorphism, and let $[M^{S,{\leq}}]_{[[R^{S,{\leq}},{\omega}]]$ denote the generalized inverse polynomial module over the skew generalized power series ring [[$R^{S,{\leq}},{\omega}$]]. In this paper, we prove that $[M^{S,{\leq}}]_{[[R^{S,{\leq}},{\omega}]]$ has the same uniform dimension as its coefficient module $M_R$, and that if, in addition, R is a right perfect ring and S is a chain monoid, then $[M^{S,{\leq}}]_{[[R^{S,{\leq}},{\omega}]]$ has the same couniform dimension as its coefficient module $M_R$.

  • Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy was used to determine rapidly and nondestructively the content of ambroxol in intact ambroxol tablets containing 30 mg (12.5% m/m nominal concentration) by collecting NIR spectra in range 1100-1750 nm. The laboratory-made samples had 10.3∼15.9% m/m nominal ambroxol concentration. The measurements were made by reflection using a fiber-optic probe and calibration was carried out by partial least square regression (PLSR) with autoscaling. Model validation was performed by randomly splitting the data set into calibration and validation data set (7 samples as a calibration data set and 5 samples as a validation data set). The developed NIR method gave results comparable to the known values of tablets in a laboratorial manufacturing Process, standard error of calibration (SEC) and standard error of prediction (SEP) being 0.49% and 0.49% m/m respectively. The method showed good accuracy and repeatability NIR spectroscopic determination in intact tablets allowed the potential use of real time monitoring for a running production process.

  • Our purpose was to investigate the effect of a 5-week high-fat diet on the body weight, blood components [triglycerides (TGs), free fatty acids (FFAs), and glucose], and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) mRNA expression in the skeletal muscles of rats. Body weight increased overtime in experimental and control groups without significant differences. In terms of the blood components, the density of TG was significantly lower in the high-fat diet group compared to the control, whereas FFA and glucose levels were similar in the two groups. Although the levels of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase(GAPDH) mRNA expression were similar between the groups, LPL mRNA expression was significantly higher in the high-fat diet group than that in the control group. The results of this study suggest that a high-fat diet enhances LPL mRNA expression, as well as possibly increases fat metabolism. For a better understanding of the relationship between diet patterns and fat metabolism, further analysis of genes related to the fat metabolism is warranted.

  • Toxoplasma gondii ME49 infections are typically diagnosed by serological tests. However, serological diagnosis of RH strain-induced toxoplasmosis remains unknown. In order to develop seradiagnosis of above 2 kinds of infections, we generated recombinant virus-like particles (VLPs) displaying the T. gondii rhoptry protein 4 (ROP4) and evaluated their potential in T. gondii ME49 or RH strain infection diagnostics. Mice were orally infected with either the tachyzoites of T. gondii (RH) or cysts of T. gondii (ME49) at various dosages, and sera were collected at regular intervals. ELISA-based serological tests were performed to assess IgG, IgM, and IgA antibody responses against ROP4 VLP antigen and tissue lysate antigen (TLA). Compared to TLA, IgG, IgM, and IgA levels to ROP4 VLP antigen were significantly higher in the sera of T. gondii RH-infected mice 1 and 2 week post-infection (PI). T. gondii-specific IgG antibody was detected at 1, 2, 4, and 8 week PI in the T. gondii ME49-infected mice with infection dose-dependent manner. These results indicated that the ROP4 VLP antigen was highly sensitive antigens detecting T. gondii RH and ME49 antibodies at an early stage.

  • We fortuitously observed a human neutrophil intracellular free-calcium concentration ($[Ca^{2+}]_i$) increasing activity in the commercially available phosphodiesterase I (PDE I), which is actually dried crude venom of Crotalus atrox. As this activity was not observed with another commercially available pure PDE I, we tried to find out the causative molecule(s) present in 'crude' PDE, and identified Lys49-phospholipase A2 (Lys49-PLA2 or K49-PLA2), a catalytically inactive protein which belongs to the phospholipase A2 family, by activity-driven three HPLC (reverse phase, size exclusion, reverse phase) steps followed by SDS-PAGE and LC-MS/MS. K49-PLA2 induced $Ca^{2+}$ influx in human neutrophils without any cytotoxic effect. Two calcium channel inhibitors, 2-aminoetoxydiphenyl borate (2-APB) ($30{\mu}M$) and SKF-96365 ($20{\mu}M$) significantly inhibited K49-PLA2-induced $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ increase. These results suggest that K49-PLA2 modulates $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ in human neutrophils via 2-APB- and SKF-96365-sensitive calcium channels without causing membrane disruption.

  • The volatile compounds of traditional Kyungsando squid sikhe were identified by GC-MS. The amount of ${\alpha}-zingibirene$ among identified volatile compounds was 19.73 mg/kg. The major volatile compounds of sikhe were (Z)-Di-2-propenyl disulfide, ${\alpha}-curcumene$, methyl allyl disulfide, (E, E)-a-farnesene, pentanol, z-citral, 3-ethyl-1,2-dithi-5-ene-${\beta}-elemene$, ${\beta}-elemene$, acetic acid, and ${\beta}-phellandrene$. The volatile compounds of sikhe were compose of 49 including hydrocarbone groups, 15 aldehydes groups, 33 alcohol groups kinds, 11 ketone and ester groups. The fraction obtained from sikhe were tested for electron donating ability, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitory activity and xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity. There were no electron donating abilities$(SC_{50})$ in hexane and water soluble fractions. On the other hand, the angiotensin converting enzyme abilities of ethylacetate and butanol soluble fractions were $310.64\;{\mu}g/mL$ and $1096.49\;{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitory activities$(IC_{50})$ of ethylacetate butanol soluble fractions were 1.623 mg/mL and 1.303 mg/mL, respectively. Xanthine oxidase inhibitory activities$(IC_{50})$ of ethylacetate fraction and butanol soluble fractions were 3.591 mg/mL and 2.083 mg/mL, respectively.

  • Let m, n, r be nonzero fixed positive integers, R a 2-torsion free prime ring, Q its right Martindale quotient ring, and L a non-central Lie ideal of R. Let D : $R{\rightarrow}R$ be a skew derivation of R and $E(x)=D(x^{m+n+r})-D(x^m)x^{n+r}-x^mD(x^n)x^r-x^{m+n}D(x^r)$. We prove that if $E(x)=0$ for all $x{\in}L$, then D is a usual derivation of R or R satisfies $s_4(x_1,{\ldots},x_4)$, the standard identity of degree 4.

  • Different pyrazoline derivatives (6a-h and 7a-h) were synthesized by cyclization of substituted chalcones with hydrazine hydrate in acidic as well as basic conditions. Both the reactions were performed under conventional heating and microwave irradiation and percentage yields were compared. All the reactions were accelerated in acidic and basic conditions under microwave irradiation, with higher yields. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by their spectral study (IR, MS, $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR) and were tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. The compounds 6g and 7g exhibited significant activity against S. aureu, 7g against E. faecalis, 6b and 7b against E. coli and 6b, 6c, 7b, 7c against S. typhi. The compounds 6d and 7d exhibited significant activity against C. albicans and 6c against M. luteus. Rest of the synthesized compounds showed moderate to poor activity against tested species with compared to standard.
