  • A low power(9 mW) highly-digitized 2.4 GHz receiver for sensor network applications(IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN) is realized by a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. We adopted a novel receiver architecture adding an intermediate frequency (IF) level detection scheme to a low-power complex fifth-order continuous-time(CT) bandpass L:tl modulator in order to digitalize the receiver. By the continuous-time bandpass architecture, the proposed $\Sigma\Delta$ modulator requires no additional anti-aliasing filter in front of the modulator. Using the IF detector, the achieved dynamic range(DR) of the over-all system is 95 dB at a sampling rate of 64 MHz. This modulator has a bandwidth of 2 MHz centered at 2 MHz. The power consumption of this receiver is 9.0 mW with a 1.8 V power supply.

  • Since ancient times, Korea has been called a land of beauty. Scenic sites under the Cultural Properties Protection Act include picturesque places that are famous for their natural scenic beauty as well as their historical and cultural value. Scenic sites are managed as natural assets to promote their preservation and use. However, the management of scenic sites can produce adverse effects on regional development and ownership rights. Moreover, the purpose of their designation as cultural assets is not fully understood because scenic sites are managed by focusing on restraint on users' act the same as was applied to historic sites. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to protect inhabitants' rights of ownership by arranging the boundaries of designated areas and by providing standard permission for condition changes in the Buryeongsa Valley, which was designated as a Scenic Site in 1979. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, arranging the boundaries of the designated area includes the arrangement of the edge lines standardized on the visual range of the mountain ridge, preventing the loss of landscape beauty in the designated district; the internal clearing district focuses on the existing settlement. Gearing the designated areas after the arrangement of the boundaries results in $11,928,932m^2$, 38.6% compared to the existing designated areas. Second, it establishes a 500m buffer zone inside the radius of the boundary of the cultural asset as a standard for condition changes that seriously affect landscape preservation. Third, the standards for permission on building 'height regulations' are divided into flat and gable, according to the roof shape. The adopted standard is 8m high for 2 story flat roofs, and 12m high for 2 story gable roofs.

  • This study was carried out to propose the improved method by analyzing the change of green space arrangement and planting structure of apartment complexes in Seoul. 12 survey sites, which have obvious differences, were selected by reflecting the change of floor area ratio, underground parking place, and green space ratio. We divided the survey sites into four types that high green ratio(over 40%) apartment on natural ground, low green ratio(under 40%) apartment on natural ground, low green ratio(under 40%) apartment on artificial ground, and high green ratio(over 40%) apartment on artificial ground each period based on green space ratio and ground structure, plant crown volume, planting density, and planting pattern. The main factors of change of green space arrangement were green space ratio and ground structure. The Green space ratio was changed by the floor area ratio with constructing underground parking place and floor area ratio was adjusted by government policy and economic status. Average width of front green area has been changed from 10.0m in high green ratio apartment on natural ground for 3.5m, 2.7m, and 4.5m each period. The average width of the buffer green area has been changed from 15.0m in high green ratio apartment on natural ground of 7.7m, and 2.7m by extending parking place in the low green ratio apartment of artificial ground, so buffer green areas have been reduced and disconnected. So buffer green area in apartment complexes has been extended that the average width of the buffer green area was 3.8m caused by growing recognition of green since 2001. The ratio of native plant in canopy layer was increased from 45.1 % in the case of the high green ratio apartment of natural ground in 1980~1983 to 55.6%. Average plant crown volume increased from $1.27m^3/m^2$ in high green ratio apartment on natural ground for $3.47m^3/m^2$ in a low green ratio apartment on natural ground. But average plant crown volume is $0.27m^3/m^2$ in the high green ratio apartment of the artificial ground plant density of canopy layer was changed from 5 individuals per $100m^2$ to 14.5 individuals per $100m^2$. We should construct the buffer green area with natural ground and get the function of ecological and beautiful environment regarding to garden concept in case of front green area, width 4.5m. We should get the function of increasing green volume by multi-layer planting with shade woody species and flower woody species in case of back-side green area, width over 5.0m. We should get the function of covering the wall and increasing green landscape by planting with high woody species in case of side green area. We should apply the ecological planting technique to buffer green area and connect buffer green area to inner green area in apartment complexes.

  • In this paper, a new architecture for digit-parallel/bit-serial GF$(2^m)$ multiplier with low latency is proposed. The proposed multiplier operates in polynomial basis of GF$(2^m)$ and produces multiplication results at a rate of one per D clock cycles, where D is the selected digit size. The digit-parallel/bit-serial multiplier is faster than bit-serial ones but with lower area complexity than bit-parallel ones. The most significant feature of the proposed architecture is that a trade-off between hardware complexity and delay time can be achieved.

  • Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication occurs when devices exchange information independent of human intervention. Prominent among the technical challenges to M2M communication are security issues, such as eavesdropping, spoofing, modification, and privacy violation. Hence, it is very important to establish secure communication. In this paper, we propose a remote authentication scheme, based on dynamic ID, which provides secure communication while avoiding exposure of data through authentication between the M2M domain and the network domain in the M2M architecture. We then prove the correctness and security of the proposed scheme using a logic-based formal method.

  • This study was carried out to determine the ways in which drying improves and develops dredged soils which exist widely in the lowlands of Korea. Before drying there were large variations in the fundamental physico-chemical properties of dredged soils collected from different places. In the sample soils, saturated hydraulic conductivity decreased gradually with an increase in bulk density with the exception that in air-dried soils a reverse trend was observed. Also in the sample soils, the sedimentation volume and the consistency limits decreased gradually with the decrease in soil water content after the air-drying treatment. The porosity of the sample soils decreased from $0.67{\sim}0.87m^3/m^3\;to\;0.58{\sim}0.66m^3/m^3$ and the liquid-phase range decreased from $0.41{\sim}0.83m^3/m^3\;to\;0.29{\sim}0.71m^3/m^3$. The solid-phase range of sample soils increased $0.13{\sim}0.33m^3/m^3\;to\;0.24{\sim}0.37m^3/m^3$ same as above with air-drying treatment. In conclusion the air-drying treatment caused an irreversible effect on some physical properties. Accordingly, these facts indicate that the effects of air-drying treatment on these properties are considered to be resulted from irreversible changes in the structural status of the sample soils.

  • This study was carried out to examine the effects of cornstarch-based absorbent polymer (CAP) on the growth of cool season turfgrasses in sand-based soil mixture. Kentucky bluegrass + perennial ryegrass mixtures seeded at May 18 in 2006 on sand-based soil mixture. Sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) mixtures were compared. Ground coverage of sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) treatments showed 50% at a month after seeding. But the coverage of sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ resulted in 36.7%. Mixing of CAP with sand was considered to be efficient method for increasing ground coverage as much as peat. Dry weight of turfgrass tiller at sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) were also significantly higher than sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ mixtures at a month after seeding. Soil water retention at the sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) mixing were lower than sand + peat (5%, v/v) and sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) during the dry periods. From the results, the mixing of CAP with sand is useful to increased ground coverage of kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass.

  • This study presents an MSB(Most Significant Bit) Int multiplier using cellular automata, along with a new MSB first multiplication algorithm over GF($2^m$). The proposed architecture has the advantage of high regularity and a reduced latency based on combining the characteristics of a PBCA(Periodic Boundary Cellular Automata) and with the property of irreducible AOP(All One Polynomial). The proposed multiplier can be used in the effectual hardware design of exponentiation architecture for public-key cryptosystem.
