In this paper, a numerical analysis for an internal turret moored vessel located at a 400-m water depth is conducted. The target vessel has an internal turret that is located at the 0.2 Lpp position from the fore-side, with $3{\times}4$ complex mooring lines installed around the turret circumference. To investigate the motion response of the vessel and the structural reliability of the lines, model tests were conducted. The KRISO ocean basin has a water depth of 3.2 m, which represents 192m using a scaling of 1:60. In order to precisely represent the real-scale condition, equivalent mooring lines needed to be designed. Truncated mooring lines were designed to supplement the restriction of the flume's water depth and increase the reliability of the model testing. These truncated mooring lines were composed of two different chains in order to match the pre-tension, simultaneously restoring the curve and variation in the effective line tension. The static similarities were compared using a static pull-out test and free decaying test, and the dynamic similarities were matched via a regular wave test and combined environments test. Consequently, the designed truncated mooring system could represent the prototype mooring system relatively well in the aspects of kinematics and dynamics.

We performed experiments on Hong-Ou-Mandel type two-photon interference with frequency entangled photon pairs at 1.5 ${\mu}m$ telecommunication band generated through femtosecond pulsed spontaneous parametric down-conversion. Two different angular frequencies ${\omega}_1$ and ${\omega}_2$ were selected using CWDM(coarse wavelength division multiplexing) filters at the output ports of the interferometer. The coincidence counting rates were measured with varying path-length difference between the two interferometer arms to observe the two-photon interference patterns of spatial beating. The obtained visibilities in the net coincidence were close to the theoretical limit of 100%.

The ECOM3D is used to study the circulation characteristics and density current from the Sumjin River runoff in the Kwangyang Estuarine System, South Sea, Korea. Annual mean value of $120m^3/s$ was imposed from the Sumjin River. The numerical model results in terms of tidal height, current and salinity field show satisfactory with skill scores over 90%. The current velocity showed the range of 1~2.5 m/s during flood and ebb phases. In particular, very strong flow occur in the narrow Channels of Noryang, Daebang and Changson exceeding over 2.0 m/s. The tidal residual currents in the various locations in the Kwangyang Estuary showed the range of 1~21 cm/s, The density-driven current through the Yeosu and Noryang Channels are about 12 cm/s and 4 cm/s, respectively. The current path through the Yeosu Channel is deflected toward west Bank. Based on budget analysis of the volume flux, the volume flux through the Yeosu Channel and the Noryang Channel were estimated to be 97.4 and $22.1m^3/s$ accounting for the 81.5% and 18.5% of total flux, respectively.

The STEM II(Sulfur Transport Eulerian Model II) was adapted to simulate transport/ chemistry/deposition of air Pollutants in the Eastern China and Korea. A 32 hour model simulation starting from 9 A.M. of 1989 November 25 during which no preciptation was observed. The Prevailing wind direction is from west to east. The MM4(Meteorological Model Version 4) was used to generate meteorological data such as temperatures, horizontal wind velocities and directions, humidities, air densities. Eddy diffusivities, dry deposition velocities and vertical wind velocities were calculated from the meteorological data. The initial condition and the emission data base were constructed from the measurements and governmental reports respectively. The model predictions of NO, NO$_2$, SO$_2$, $O_3$ at Seoul, Inchon and Pusan agree reasonably well with measurements. The model's predictability for the primary air pollutants is improved considerably as the time passes. Thus, it is concluded that the model's predictability can be significantly enhanced by reducing the uncertainties of initial conditions.

As a multidisciplinary study encompassing oceanography and history, we have attempted to reanalyze the course of a historical navel battle, Myungryang Naval Battle(September 16th, 1597 according to the lunar calendar) through hindcasting the paleo-tidal currents and -tides(PTC). Firstly, we conducted harmonic analysis using 6-month current data observed at Uldolmok and 1-year elevation data provided by Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute in order to understand their characteristics and to hindcast the PTC. Observation results show that Uldolmok, ~300m wide, relatively narrow channel, is characterized by a flood-dominant mixed mainly semidiurnal tidal regime induced by relatively-strong shallow water constituents, showing closely a standing wave type of tidal current. Further, we hindcasted PTC on the day of Myungryang Naval Battle. Our results were compared and discussed with results(time and speeds of maximum(flood and ebb) currents and high and low water times) of the previous studies estimated from different methods. Lastly, we reconstruct the course of the event of Myungryang Naval Battle recorded in the Admiral Sun-Sin Yi's War Diary(Nangjung Iigi in Korean) based on our hindcasting results.
This study was conducted to investigate the immune response of layers fed diets supplemented with excess micronutrients, i.e., vitamin A, methionine, Zn, Cu, and Fe to the inoculation of Newcastle disease vaccine(NDV) or infectious bronchitis vaccine(IBV). The antibody titer against the NDV increased immediately after the inoculation and stayed high during the next 6 wk. On the other hand, The antibody titer against the IBV increased after 4 wk of inoculation The IgM level increased rapidly after 1 wk of NDV inoculation, however, it decreased after 5 wk of inoculation. The IgA displayed similar pattern to that of IgM in response to NDV inoculation. The pattern of IgM change after IBV inoculation was similar to that when layers were treated with NDV. However, IgA level changed earlier than did IgM. The IgG response to the NDV and IBV was very weak compared to the other immune responses. The excess supplementation of micronutrients to the diets of layers inoculated with NDV elicited favorable antibody titer and immune response compared to the layers fed the control diet. The excess Zn, however, allowed the layers to have higher antibody titer for the 4-wk period after NDV injection: after that they showed no effect of extra-Zn. The immune responses of layers fed excess vitamin A, Cu, methionine, and Fe were markedly higher in IgA and IgG than the control layers. The excess Zn, however, did not bring about any favorable result. No difference was detected in IgG level between control and micronutrients-treated groups.

This study investigated the diel and tidal distributions of the two mysids, Archaeomysis kokuboi and Acanthomysis nakazatoi, in relation to their growth stages in the sandy surf zone of Yongil Bay, located on the southeastern part of Korean Peninsula. Sampling was conducted with a sledge net at every two hours for almost 24 hours at three sites: water edge, water surface and sand bottom both in 1-m deep water areas. The abundance of Archaeomysis kokuboi juveniles was too low to count both in day and night samples. While there was no difference in immature A. kokuboi abundance between day and night in the bottom or water edge, that at the water surface was significantly higher at night than daytime. The abundance of A. kokuboi adults, especially of males, in the bottom was significantly higher in daytime than night and no individuals appeared to the water surface either day or night. In comparison, the abundance of Acanthomysis nakazatoi juveniles between day and night did not differ significantly at all the three sites, with the highest number being distributed in the bottom. The abundance of immatures between day and night also did not differ significantly and no individuals appeared to the water surface either day or night. The abundance of A. nakazatoi adults, especially females, in the bottom was significantly higher at night than daytime and there was no significant difference in abundance between day and night in the other sites. There was also no significant difference in abundances of the two species between ebb and flood tides, except for A. kokuboi immatures which appeared significantly more during the ebb tides at the water surface. Overall, the distribution of the two sympatric species, A. kokuboi and A. nakazatoi, was not the same in the sandy surf zone. Its difference seems to depend on their stages of growth, and the change in their abundance may be influenced more by diurnal rhythms than tidal effects. The population density of A. nakazatoi in the sandy surf zone was much higher than that of A. kokuboi, and relatively higher densities in all growth stages of the former were found in the sandy bottom ranging from juveniles to adults. These results indicate that A. nakazatoi has exceedingly better ability of sand burrowing even from the juvenile stage, and thus is an ecologically better adapted species in the sandy surf zone than another sympatric species, A. kokuboi.

To understand the characteristics and strength of the cold water that has caused damage to marine-culturing farms around Guryongpo, in the southwestern part of Korea, surface and water column temperatures were collected from temperature loggers deployed at a sea squirt farm during August-November 2007 and from a Real-time Information System for Aquaculture environment operated by NIFS (National Institute of Fisheries Science) during July-August 2015 and 2016. During the study period, surface temperature at Guryongpo decreased sharply when south/southwestern winds prevailed (the 18-26th of August and 20-22nd of September 2007 and the 13-15th of July 2015) as a result of upwelling. However, the deep-water (20-30m) temperature increased during periods of strong north/northeasterly winds (the 5-7th and 16-18th of September 2007) as a result of downwelling. Among the cold water events that occurred at Guryongpo, the mass death of cultured fish followed strong cold water events (surface temperatures below $10^{\circ}C$) that were caused by more than two days of successive south/southeastern winds with maximum speeds higher than 5 m/s. A Cold Water Index (CWI) was defined and calculated using maximum wind speed and direction as measured daily at Pohang Meteorological Observatory. When the average CWI over two days ($CWI_{2d}$) was higher than 100, mass fish mortality occurred. The four-day average CWI ($CWI_{4d}$) showed a high negative correlation with surface temperature from July-August in the Guryongpo area ($R^2=0.5$), suggesting that CWI is a good index for predicting strong cold water events and massive mortality. In October 2007, the sea temperature at a depth of 30 m showed a high fluctuation that ranged from $7-23^{\circ}C$, with frequency and spectrum coinciding with tidal levels at Ulsan, affected by the North Korean Cold Current. If temperature variations at the depth of fish cages also regularly fluctuate within this range, damage may be caused to the Guryongpo fish industry. More studies are needed to focus on this phenomenon.

To determine the temporal variations of submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) and SGD-driven nutrients inputs, we measured the seepage rate and the nutrient concentrations of pore water/groundwater in Bangdu Bay of Jeju Island at two and three month intervals from September 2009 to September 2010. The seepage rate of groundwater ranged from 0 to 330 cm/day (average ~170 cm/day) during the five sampling periods, which increased sharply from high tide to low tide due to changes in hydraulic pressure gradient between water table in land and water sea level in the coastal ocean by the tidal cycles. The submarine inputs of groundwater were also relatively higher in summer than in winter. The nutrient fluxes from SGD were about 90~100%, 70~95%, and 65~100% of the total input (except from open ocean waters) for dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), phosphorus (DIP), and silicate (DSi), respectively, potentially supporting about 0.9~33 g $carbon/m^2/day$ of new primary production in Baugdu Bay. Thus, our study suggests that SGD-driven nutrients may play an important role in the eutrophication and biological production in the coastal ocean of Jeju Island.

The first 7 years of altimeter data from the TOPEX/POSEIDON(T/P) were analyzed to study the surface circulation and its variability in the East Asian Marginal Seas. Long term averaged T/P sea level time series data where compared with in situ sea level measurements from a float-operated type tide gauge around of south Korea and Japan. T/]P data are a large contaminated by 60-day tidal aliasing effect, very near the alias periods of M2 and 52. When this 60-day effect is removed, the data agree well with the tide gauge data with 4.6 cm averaged RMS difference. The T/P derived sea level variability reveals clearly the well-known, strong current-topography such as Kuroshio. The T/P mean sea level of North Pacific(NP) was higher than Yellow Sea(YS) and East Sea(ES). The T/P sea level variability, with strong eddy and meandering, was the largest in eastern part of Japan and this variability was mainly due to the influence of bottom topography in Kuroshio Extension area.
