Compositional dependence of corrosion behavior of rapidly solidified Mg-rich Mg-Zn-Y alloys in NaCl aqueous solution has been investigated. Mg-Zn-Y ternary alloys containing small amounts of Zn exhibited low corrosion rate, although the $Mg_{98}Y_2$ (at. %) binary alloy showed severe corrosion with violet evolution of hydrogen. The alloy with highest corrosion-resistance was $Mg_{97.25}Zn_{0.75_Y_2$, its corrosion rate was about 1 mm year-1 in 0.17 M (1.0 wt. %) NaCl solution. $Mg_{97.25}Zn_{0.75}Y_2$ alloy exhibited passive region in anodic polarization curves when immersed in NaCl solution. Rapidly solidification and small amount of Zn addition may bring about an increase in electrochemical homogeneity of Mg-Zn-Y alloys, resulting in enhancement of corrosion resistance.

Interleukin-9 (IL-9) is well known for its role in allergic inflammation. For cancer, both pro- and anti-tumor effects of IL-9 were controversially reported, but the impact of IL-9 on tumor metastasis has not yet been clarified. In this study, IL-9 was expressed as a secretory form (sIL-9) and a membrane-bound form (mbIL-9) on B16F10 melanoma cells. The mbIL-9 was engineered as a chimeric protein with the transmembrane and cytoplasmic region of TNF-α. The effect of either mbIL-9 or sIL-9 expressing cells were analyzed on the metastasis capability of the cancer cells. After three weeks of tumor implantation into C57BL/6 mice through the tail vein, the number of tumor modules in lungs injected with IL-9 expressing B16F10 was 5-fold less than that of control groups. The percentages of CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, NK cells, and M1 macrophages considerably increased in the lungs of the mice injected with IL-9 expressing cells. Among them, the M1 macrophage subset was the most significantly enhanced. Furthermore, peritoneal macrophages, which were stimulated with either sIL-9 or mbIL-9 expressing transfectant, exerted higher anti-tumor cytotoxicity compared with that of the mock control. The IL-9-stimulated peritoneal macrophages were highly polarized to M1 phenotype. Stimulation of RAW264.7 macrophages with sIL-9 or mbIL-9 expressing cells also significantly increased the cytotoxicity of those macrophages against wild-type B16F10 cells. These results clearly demonstrate that IL-9 can induce an anti-metastasis effect by enhancing the polarization and proliferation of M1 macrophages.

The corrosion behavior of a rebar in concrete according to the amount of NaCl and $LiNO_2$ was observed by using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. The corrosion was accelerated in a short time by using dry/wet cycles method, which is one of the corrosion acceleration methods, and though the value of measured impedance, equivalent circuit can be introduced. It was confirmed that the passive film of a embedded rebar in concrete with NaCl was broken quickly, and when $0.6M\;LiNO_2$ was added, the velocity of ongoing corrosion was declined considerably compared to the amount of NaCl. However, when $1.2M\;LiNO_2$ was added, it was confirmed that the passive film was not broken and its performance remained, compared to the amount of NaCl.
The reliability of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) particularly depends on the high quality of solid oxide electrolytes. The application of thinner electrolytes and multi electrolyte layers requires a more reliable characterization method. Most of the investigations on thin film solid electrolytes have been made for the parallel transport along the interface, which is not however directly related to the fuel cell performance of those electrolytes. In this work an array of ion-blocking metallic Ti/Au microelectrodes with about a $160{\mu}m$ diameter was applied on top of an ultrathin ($1{\mu}m$) yttria-stabilized-zirconia/gadolinium-doped-ceria (YSZ/GDC) heterolayer solid electrolyte in a micro-SOFC prepared by PLD as well as an 8-${\mu}m$ thick YSZ layer by screen printing, to study the transport characteristics in the perpendicular direction relevant for fuel cell operation. While the capacitance variation in the electrode area supported the working principle of the measurement technique, other local variations could be related to the quality of the electrolyte layers and deposited electrode points. While the small electrode size and low temperature measurements increaseed the electrolyte resistances enough for the reliable estimation, the impedance spectra appeared to consist of only a large electrode polarization. Modulus representation distinguished two high frequency responses with resistance magnitude differing by orders of magnitude, which can be ascribed to the gadolinium-doped ceria buffer electrolyte layer with a 200 nm thickness and yttria-stabilized zirconia layer of about $1{\mu}m$. The major impedance response was attributed to the resistance due to electron hole conduction in GDC due to the ion-blocking top electrodes with activation energy of 0.7 eV. The respective conductivity values were obtained by model analysis using empirical Havriliak-Negami elements and by temperature adjustments with respect to the conductivity of the YSZ layers.
The lanthanum-modified lead titanate (PLT) thin films on (100) cleaved MgO single crystal substrate have been prepared by RF magnetron sputtering method using PbO-rich target with varing La contents. The substrate temperature, working pressure, $Ar/O_{2}$, and RF power density of PLT thin films were $580^{\circ}C$ 10mTorr, 10/1, and $1.7W/cm^{2}$, respectively. In these conditions, the c-axis growth and tetragonality of the PLT thin films decreased for addition of La content and the PLT thin films showed diffuse phase transition from high temperature XRD patterns. The infrared sensor was fabricated. The remanent polarization was above $1.71{\mu}C/cm^{2}$ and the pyroelectric voltage was above 500mV with 10:1 signal to noise ratio.

In the segmented-in-series solid-oxide fuel cells (SIS-SOFCs), fabrication techniques which use decalcomania paper have many advantages, i.e., an increased active area of the electrode; better interfacial adhesion property between the anode, electrolyte and cathode; and improved layer thickness uniformity. In this work, a cell-stack was fabricated on porous ceramic flattened tube supports using decalcomania paper, which consists of an anode, electrolyte, and a cathode. The anode layer was $40{\mu}m$ thick, and was porous. The electrolyte layers exhibited a uniform thickness of about $20{\mu}m$ with a dense structure. Interfacial adhesion was improved due to the dense structure. The cathode layers was $30{\mu}m$ thick with porous structure, good adhesion to the electrolyte. The ohmic resistance levels at 800, 750 and $700^{\circ}C$ were measured, showing values of 1.49, 1.58 and $1.65{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, respectively. The polarization resistances at 800, 750 and $700^{\circ}C$ were measured to be 1.63, 2.61 and $4.17cm^2$, respectively. These lower resistance values originated from the excellent interfacial adhesion between the anode, electrolyte and cathode. In a two-cell-stack SOFC, open-circuit voltages(OCVs) of 1.915, 1.942 and 1.957 V and maximum power densities(MPD) of 289.9, 276.1 and $220.4mW/cm^2$ were measured at 800, 750 and $700^{\circ}C$, respectively. The proposed fabrication technique using decalcomania paper was shown to be feasible for the easy fabrication of segmented-in-series flattened tube SOFCs.

The influence of the concentration of precursor solution and the number of solution coatings on the densification of the $Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$ (PZT) thick films was studied. PZT powder and PZT precursor solution were prepared by3 sol-gel method and PZT thick films were fabricated by the screen-printing method on the alumina substrates. The composition of powder and precursor solution were PZT(70/30) and PZT(30/70), respectively. The PZT precursor solution was spin-coated on the PZT thick films. A concentration of a coating solution was 0.5 to 2.0 mol/L[M] and the number of coating was repeated from 0 to 6. The XRD patterns of all PZT thick films shelved typical perovskite polycrystalline structure. The porosity of the thick films was decreased with increasing the number of coatings and 6-time coated films with 1.5 M showed the dense microstructure and thickness of about $60{\mu}m$. The relative dielectric constant of the PZT thick film was increased with increasing the number of solution coatings and the thick films with 1.5 M, 6-time coated showed the 698. The remanent polarization the 1.5 M and 6-time coated PZT thick films was $38.3{\mu}C/cm^2$.

In this paper, the sequentially rotated array(SRA) antenna with 256 elements applicable for satellite broadcasting reception was designed by arraying this triple(4+8+4 element) SRA antenna as a sub-array antenna. The structure of a triple SRA antenna is a combination of three coaxial shells composed with 4 elements of inner shell and 8 elements of middle shell and 4 elements of outer shell. In accordance with the optimum design rules for realizing a high gain antenna, the sequential array factors(M, P) of inner shell and outer shell have been chosen M=4 and P=1 and that of middle shell has been chosen M=8 and P=1. The results of the simulation and the measurement for the proposed triple(4+8+4 element) SRA antenna and the SRA antenna with 256 elements show good characteristics on the integration, bandwidth of the axial ratio and the cross-polarization, the gain respectively.

Effects of Ti content and Ti underlayer on the pitting behavior of TiN coated AISI 304 stainless steel have been studied. The stainless steel containing 0.1~1.0wt% Ti were melted with a vacuum melting furnace and heat treated at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 1hr for solutionization. The specimen were coated with l$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 2$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness of Ti and TiN by E-beam PVD method. The microstructure and phase analysis were conducted by using XRD, XPS and SEM with these specimen. XRD patterns shows that in TiN single-layer only the TiN (111) Peak is major and the other peaks are very weak, but in Ti/TiN double-layer TiN (220) and TiN (200) peaks are developed. It is observed that the surface of coating is covered with titanium oxide (TiO$_2$) and titanium oxynitride ($TiO_2$N) as well as TiN. Corrosion potential on the anodic polarization curve measured in HCl solution increase in proportion to the Ti content of substrate and by a presence of the Ti underlayer, whereas corrosion and passivation current densities are not affected by either of them. The number and size of pits decrease with increasing Ti content and a presence of the coated Ti film as underlayer in the TiN coated stainless steel.

Stainless steel is a metal that does not generate rust. Due to its excellent workability, economic feasibility, and corrosion resistance, it is used in various industrial fields such as ships, piping, nuclear power, and machinery. However, stainless steel is vulnerable to corrosion in harsh environments. To solve this problem, its corrosion resistance could be improved by electrochemically forming an anodized film on its surface. In this study, 316L stainless steel was anodized at room temperature with ethylene glycol-based 0.1 M NH4F and 0.1M H2O electrolyte to adjust the thickness of the oxide film using different anodic oxidation voltages (30 V, 50 V, and 70 V) with time control. The anodic oxidation experiment was performed by increasing the time from 1 hour to 7 hours at 2-hour intervals. Corrosion resistance according to the thickness of the anodic oxide film was observed. Electrochemical corrosion behavior of oxide films was investigated through polarization experiments.
