This paper presents a content adaptive interpolation (CAI) for intra deinterlacing. The CAI consists of three steps: pre-processing, content classification, and adaptive interpolation. There are also three main interpolation methods in our proposed CAI, i.e. modified edge-based line averaging (M-ELA), gradient directed interpolation (GDI), and window matching method (WMM). Each proposed method shows different performances according to spatial local features. Therefore, we analyze the local region feature using the gradient detection and classify each missing pixel into four categories. And then, based on the classification result, a different do-interlacing algorithm is activated in order to obtain the best performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the CAI method performs better than previous techniques.

Detecting of the object in image processing is substantial but it depends on the object itself and the environment. An object can be detected either by its shape or color. Color is an essential for pattern recognition and computer vision. It is an attractive feature because of its simplicity and its robustness to scale changes and to detect the positions of the object. Generally, color of an object depends on its characteristics of the perceiving eye and brain. Physically, objects can be said to have color because of the light leaving their surfaces. Here, we conducted experiment in the aquarium fish tank. Different color of fish robots are mimic the natural swim of fish. Unfortunately, in the underwater medium, the colors are modified by attenuation and difficult to identify the color for moving objects. We consider the fish motion as a moving object and coordinates are found at every instinct of the aquarium to detect the position of the fish robot using OpenCV color detection. In this paper, we proposed to identify the position of the fish robot by their color and use the position data to control the fish robot gathering in one point in the fish tank through serial communication using RF module. It was verified by the performance test of detecting the position of the fish robot.
This study was carried out to develop a fully-controlled plant growth system for studying the effects of environmental factors on plant growth. The plant growth system consists of the growth chamber, the measurement system for sensing and signal conditioning the environmental factors and the control system which includes control algorithm required for optimum operation and on-line monitoring. The results of the study on the performance of the controlled plant growth system are summarized as follows : 1. Under the light intensity of 18,000~20,000 lux, the temperature was controlled in the range of $22{\pm}0.4^{\circ}C$, the relative humidity of $70{\pm}5%$ respectively. 2. The $CO_2$ concentration was controlled in the range of $1,000{\pm}40ppm$(from 1st to 4th day) and $1,500{\pm}40ppm$(from 4th to 9th day). 3. The electric conductivity(EC) and pH of the nutrient solution were controlled in the range of $1.9{\pm}0.2mS/cm$ and $6.8{\pm}0.5pH$ respectively. 4. Under the above environmental conditions, the average fresh weight of leaf lettuce increased from 10g to 74g in 9 days with 24 hour lighting.
AMB(Active Magnetic Bearing) systems are popularly used in various areas. In biomedical engineering applications it is a key part of magnetically suspended rotary blood pumps. The special advantage of AMBs is that they enable the rotor to revolve with no physical contact and provide rotary blood pumps with better performances such as low hemolysis level. Fundamentally, AMB systems consist of three parts, proximity sensors for distance detection, microprocessor for control algorithm and power amplifiers for actuating electromagnets. We have developed an inductive type proximity sensor with satisfactory characteristics that can be used in AMB systems. Frequency response was flat at least up to 10 kHz and sensitivity, resolution$(>5{\mu}m)$ and sensing range(<5mm) of the sensor could be adjustable for various purposes. The characteristics of the completed model showed to have satisfactory behaviors compared with the commercially available ones that already appeared to have reliable behaviors in AMB systems.
To induce perturbed magnetic field variations in the range of auto prescans permitted, we chose artificially shim values and applied manualy as DC offsets to X, Y, Z gradient amplifiers. The STEAM spectra were obtained from a localized region (8ml) of phantom's center and a Marquart Algorithm is employed to quantify MRS spectra. Results indicated that Creatine (Cr) which had a good correlation between a signal intensity and an area, changed little bit and showed extremly a stabilized state in perturbed magnetic field variations. Therefore, during the MRS experiments, to minimize the SNR reduction by means of unavoidable inhomogeneous magnetic fields, the present study suggested that the quantification method of relative ratios produced by replacing Cr concentration with standard quantify was most desirable.
We are exposed to the various external stimuli input from the environment, which cause emotional changes based on the characteristics of the stimuli. Unfortunately, there are no quantitative results on relationship between human sensibility and the characteristics of physiological signals. The objective of this study was to quantify EEG signals evoked by visual stimulation based on the assumption that the analysis of the variability on the characteristics of the EEG waveform may provide the significant information regarding changes in psychological states of the subject. Seven university students were participated in this study. The experiment was devised with eleven experimental conditions, which are control and ten different types of visual stimulation based on IAPS (International Affective Picture Systems). Wavelet transformation was employed to analyze the EEG signals. Most positive and negative emotional response were compared in pairs. The results showed that the reconstructed signals at the decomposition level revealed the different energy value on the EEG signals. Also, general patterns of EEG signals in rest state compare with positive and negative stimulus were found. This study could be extended to establish an algorithm which distinguishes psychophysiological states of the subjects exposed to the visual stimulation.
In this paper, we present the elimination of ECG artifact from the polysomnographic EEG and EOG. The idea of this method is that the ECG synchronized EEG segment is detected from ECG and regard samples of that segment a missing signal. After this, we used two interpolation methods to recover the missing segment. One is the Lagrange Polynomial Interpolation Method and the other is the Least Square Error AR Interpolation method. We tested those methods by applying to simulated signals. AR methods works well enough to reject the artifact about 10% of the main artifact level. We practically applied to real EEG and EOG signals. We also developed the algorithm to detect whether the artifact level is high or not. If the artifact level is high, then the interpolations are applied.
A long-term prediction algorithm of geostationary orbit was developed using the analytical method. The perturbation force models include geopotential upto fifth order and degree and luni-solar gravitation, and solar radiation pressure. All of the perturbation effects were analyzed by secular variations, short-period variations, and long-period variations for equinoctial elements such as the semi-major axis, eccentricity vector, inclination vector, and mean longitude of the satellite. Result of the analytical orbit propagator was compared with that of the cowell orbit propagator for the KOREASAT. The comparison indicated that the analytical solution could predict the semi-major axis with an accuracy of better than $pm35$ meters over a period of 3 month.
The detection of yellow sand dust using satellite has been utilized from various bands from ultraviolet to infrared channels. Among them, Infrared channels have an advantage of detecting aerosols over high reflecting surface as well as during nighttime. Especially, brightness temperature difference between 11 and 12{\mu}m(BTD) was often used to distinguish between water cloud and yellow sand, because Ice and liquid water particles preferentially absorb longer wavelengths while aerosol particles preferentially absorb shorter wavelengths. We have found that the BTD significantly depends on surface temperature, emissivity, and zenith angle and thereby the threshold of BTD. In order to overcome these problems, we have constructed the background brightness temperature threshold of BTD and then subtracted it from BTD. Along with this, we utilized high temporal coverage of geostationary satellite, MTSAT-1R, to verify the reliability of the retrieved signal in conjunction with forecasted wind information. The statistical score test illustrated that this newly developed algorithm showed a promising result for detecting mineral dust by reducing the errors in the current BTD method.
A major obstacle to classify and validate Land Cover maps is the high cost of generating reference data or multiple thematic maps for subsequent comparative analysis. In case of inaccessible area such as North Korea, the high resolution satellite imagery may be used as in situ data so as to overcome the lack of reliable reference data. The objective of this paper is to investigate the possibility of utilizing QuickBird (0.6m) of North Korea obtained from Google Earth data provided thru internet. Monthly NDVI images of nine months from the summer of 2004 were classified into L=54 cluster using ISODATA algorithm, and these L clusters were assigned to 7 classes; coniferous forest, deciduous forest, mixed forest, paddy field, dry field, water and built-up area. The overall accuracy and Kappa index were 85.98% and 0.82, respectively, which represents about 10% point increase of classification accuracy than our previous study based on GCP point data around North Korea. Thus we can conclude that Google Earth may be used to substitute the traditional in situ data collection on the site where the accessibility is severely limited.
