  • The Jahn-Teller distortion of chalcogenide $Fe_{0.9}M_{0.1}Cr_2S_4$ (M=Co, Ni, Zn) have been investigated by M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy. The crystal structures of $Fe_{0.9}M_{0.1}Cr_2S_4$ (M=Co, Ni, Zn) are cubic spinel at room temperature. Magnetoresistance measurements indicate these system is conducting-semiconducting transistion around $T_C$. Below $T_C$, the asymmetric line broadening is observed and considered to be dynamic Jahn-Teller distortion. Isomer shift value of the samples at room temperature was about 0.5 mm/s, which means that charge state of Fe ions is ferrous in character. The Ni substitutions for Fe occur to increase the Jahn-Teller relaxation. CMR properties could be explained with magnetic polaron due to Jahn-Teller effect, which is different from both the double exchange interactions of manganite system and the triple exchange interactions of chalcogenide $Cu_xFe_{1-x}Cr_2S_4$.

  • $MnFe_2O_4$ nanoparticles have been prepared by a sol-gel method. The structural and magnetic properties have been investigated by XRD, SEM, and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy, VSM. $MnFe_2O_4$ powder that was annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ has spinel structure and behaved superparamagnetically at room temperature. $MnFe_2O_4$ annealed at 400 and $500^{\circ}C$ has a typical spinel structure and is ferrimagnetic in nature. The estimated size of superparammagnetic $MnFe_2O_4$ nanoparticle is around 17 nm. The hyperfine fields of the A and B patterns at 4.2 K were found to be 508 and 475 kOe, respectively. The blocking temperature ($T_B$) of superparammagnetic $MnFe_2O_4$ nanoparticle is about 120 K. The magnetic anisotropy constant and relaxation time constant of $MnFe_2O_4$ nanoparticle were calculated to be $4.9{\times}10^5erg/cm^3$.

  • The magnetic properties of $Ni_{1-x}Zn_{x}Fe_{2}O_{4}$ have been studied by X-ray diffractometry and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ Spectroscopy at room temperature. The X-ray diffraction study show that spinel structure is formed in all x, lattice constants linearly increased from $8.3111{$\AA$}~8.4184{$\AA$}({\pm}0.0003)$ with increasing x from 0 to 1, and oxygen parameter increase with increasing x. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectrum shows that $Ni_{1-x}Zn_{x}Fe_{2}O_{4}(x=0)$ has two antiparallel magnetic structure due to $Fe^{3+}$ octahedral site and $Fe^{3+}$ tetrahedral site. $Ni_{1-x}Zn_{x}Fe_{2}O_{4}$ with $0.2{\leq}x{\leq}0.6$ has magnetic structure of Yafet and Kittel, in particularly, specimen with x=0.6 shows relaxation effect. Specimen with $x{\geq}0.8$ show paramagnetic quadrupole splitting. The isomer shift is independent of x, but quadrupole splittings decrease with increasing x in the range of $0.8{\leq}x{\leq}1$, and nuclear magnetic fields decrease with in¬creasing x in the range of $0{\leq}x{\leq}0.6$. The magnetic properties of $Ni_{1-x}Zn_{x}Fe_{2}O_{4}$ change from ferrimagnetics to pararnagnetics with increasing x.

  • Nickel substituted nano-sized ferrite powders, $Co_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$, $Mn_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{1-2x}Zn_xNi_xFe_2O_4$ ($0.0{\leq}x{\leq}0.2$), were fabricated using a sol-gel method, and their crystallographic and magnetic properties were subsequently compared. The lattice constants decreased as quantity of nickel substitution increased, while the particle size decreased in $Co_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite but increased for the $Mn_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{1-2x}Zn_xNi_xFe_2O_4$ ferrites. For the $Co_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ ($0.0{\leq}x{\leq}0.2$) ferrite powders, the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra could be fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the $Fe^{3+}$ ions. However, the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum of $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.1}Ni_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ consisted of two Zeeman sextets and one single quadrupole doublet due to the ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic behavior. The area ratio of the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra could be used to determine the cation distribution equation, and we also explain the variation in the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ parameters by using this cation distribution equation, the superexchange interaction and the particle size. The saturation magnetization decreased in the $Co_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{1-2x}Zn_xNi_xFe_2O_4$ ferrites but increased in the $Mn_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite with nickel substitution. The coercivity decreased in the $Co_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{1-2x}Zn_xNi_xFe_2O_4$ ferrites but increased in the $Mn_{1-x}Ni_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite with nickel substitution. These variations could thus be explained by using the site distribution equations, particle sizes and spin magnetic moments of the substituted ions.

  • $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_xFe_{5-x}O_{12}$(x=0, 1) fabricated by sol-gel and vacuum sealed annealing process. $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_xFe_{5-x}O_{12}$(x=0, 1) have been studied by x-ray diffraction(XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer, and $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The crystal structures were found to be a cubic garnet structure with space group Ia3d. The determined lattice constants $a_0$ of x = 0, and 1 are $12.497\AA$, and $12.465\AA$, respectively. The distribution of gallium and iron in $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_xFe_{5-x}O_{12}$ is studied by Rietveld refinement. Based on Rietveld refinement results, the terbium and bismuth ions occupy the 24c site, iron ions occupy the 24d, l6a site, and nonmagmetic gallium ions occupy the 16a site. In order to verify the magnetic site occupancy of iron and gallium, we have taken $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra for $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_xFe_{5-x}O_{12}$(x=0, 1) at room temperature. From the results of $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra analysis, the absorption area ratios of Fe ions for $Tb_2Bi_1Fe_5O_{12}$ on 24d and 16a sites are 60.8 % and 39.2 %, respectively, and the absorption area ratios of Fe ions for $Tb_2Bi_1Fe_5O_{12}$ on 24d and 16a sites are 74.7 % and 25.3 %, respectively. It is noticeable that all of the nonmagnetic Ga atoms occupy the 16a site by vacuum annealing process.

  • Fe-Si-C alloy system has been made by mechancial alloying process. The structural and magnetic properties were analysed as a function of processing times. The structural properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction and EXAFS experiments. The magnetic properties were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer and M ssbauer spectroscopy. As processing time increases, Si and C atoms diffuse into a ${\alpha}$-Fe structure and then bcc solid solution is formed after 12 hours of the processing time. The magnetization and the hyper fine field decreased steeply up to 4 hours and then it changed slowly. After 12 hours of the processing time, it almost saturated. These results were agreed with the structural variation.

  • We have calculated the reduced spontaneous magnetization in different environments and average value as func¬tion of reduced temperature of the magnetic ions(Fe) for A(tetrahedral) and B(octahedral) sites in spinel ferrites $AB_{2}O_{4}$ using A-O-B superexchange interaction. The reduced spontaneous magnetization and average value by A-O-B superexchange interaction are compared with that by A-B direct interaction. To contrast A-O-B superexchange interaction with A-B direct interaction, $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra from previous two interactions are obtained.

  • Nature of phase transition in $LaVO_3$ has been studied using X-ray diffraction, SQUID magnetometer, and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy with 1% of $^{57}Fe$ doped sample. The crystal structure was orthorhombic with space group Pnma. Antiferromagnetic phase transition temperature $T_N$ was 140K, below which a weak ferromagnetic trace has been found. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra below $T_N$ were single set of hyperfine sextet, which enabled us to discard the possibility of two inequivalent magnetic sites or uncompensated antiferromagnetism. Hyperfine magnetic field abruptly disappeared as low as about 90K, much below $T_N$.
