Integrated Roll-Pitch-Yaw Autopilot via Equivalent Based Sliding Mode Control for Uncertain Nonlinear Time-Varying Missile

  • This paper presents an integrated roll-pitch-yaw autopilot using an equivalent based sliding mode control for skid-to-turn nonlinear time-varying missile system with lumped disturbances in its six-equations of motion. The considered missile model are developed to integrate the model uncertainties, external disturbances, and parameters perturbation as lumped disturbances. Moreover, it considers the coupling effect between channels, the variation of missile velocity and parameters, and the aerodynamics nonlinearity. The presented approach is employed to achieve a good tracking performance with robustness in all missile channels simultaneously during the entire flight envelope without demand of accurate modeling or output derivative to avoid the noise existence in the real missile system. The proposed autopilot consisting of a two-loop structure, controls pitch and yaw accelerations, and stabilizes the roll angle simultaneously. The Closed loop stability is studied. Numerical simulation is provided to evaluate performance of the suggested autopilot and to compare it with an existing autopilot in the literature concerning the robustness against the lumped disturbances, and the aforesaid considerations. Finally, the proposed autopilot is integrated in a six degree of freedom flight simulation model to evaluate it with several target scenarios, and the results are shown.

Disturbance observer based adaptive sliding mode control for power tracking of PWRs

  • It is well known that the model of nuclear reactors features natural nonlinearity, and variable parameters during power tracking operation. In this paper, a disturbance observer-based adaptive sliding mode control (DOB-ASMC) strategy is proposed for power tracking of the pressurized-water reactor (PWR) in the presence of lumped disturbances. The nuclear reactor model is firstly established based on point-reactor kinetics equations with six delayed neutron groups. Then, a new sliding mode disturbance observer is designed to estimate the lumped disturbance, and its stability is discussed. On the basis of the developed DOB, an adaptive sliding mode control scheme is proposed, which is a combination of backstepping technique and integral sliding mode control approach. In addition, an adaptive law is introduced to enhance the robustness of a PWR with disturbances. The asymptotic stability of the overall control system is verified by Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate that the proposed DOB-ASMC strategy has better power tracking performance than conventional sliding mode controller and PID control method as well as conventional backstepping controller.

Dynamic Modeling of Bolt Joints Using Lumped Mass-Spring Model (집중 질량-스프링 모델을 이용한 볼트 결합부 모델링)

  • In this paper, a new technique which models the joints characteristics through reduction of DOFs of structures with joints using component mode synthesis (CMS) method is proposed. Bolt joints are modeled by mass-spring systems. Also generalized mass and stiffness matrices for this models are introduced. Because bolt joints have influence on eigenvalues of structures, exact eigenvalues from modal test are used. The results show that the behaviors of structures with bolt joints depend to a large extent on the translational DOFs and not on rotational DOFs of mass and stiffness matrices of bolts. Furthermore it is confirmed that lumped mass-spring systems as models of bolt joints are effective models considering the facts that joint characteristics converged to constant values in some iterations and eignevalues from proposed method are in good agreement with ones from modal test.

Design of a Novel Lumped Element Backward Directional Coupler Based on Parallel Coupled-Line Theory (평행 결합선로 이론에 근거한 새로운 집중 소자형 방향성 결합기 해석 및 설계)

  • In this paper, a novel lumped equivalent circuit for a conventional parallel directional coupler is proposed. The equivalent circuit and design formula for the presented lumped element coupler is derived based on the even-and odd-mode properties of a parallel-coupled line. By using the derived design formula, we have designed the 3㏈ and 10㏈ lumped element directional couplers at the center frequency of 100Mhz. Furthermore, a chip type directional coupler has been designed to fabricate with multilayer configurations by employing the Low Temperature CofiredCeramic (LTCC) process. Designed chip-type directional coupler has a 10㏈-coupling value at the center frequency of 2㎓. Excellent agreements between simulations and measurements on the designed directional couplers show the validity of this paper

  • With the world-wide demand on the emission minimization, the needs on the diesel aftertreatment devices with high efficiency are also increasing. In order to effectively develop or design a high-performance diesel particulate filter, a clear understanding on the deposition and regeneration mechanism is required. In the present study, a theory on the lumped parameter model for wall-flow type diesel particulate filters is described focusing on the deposition efficiency, pressure drop inside the filter. The fourth order explicit Runge-Kutta method is utilized for the mass flow rate computation. Engine operation modes with controlled and uncontrolled regeneration options are selected. The computational lumped parameter model is validated by comparing the computed results with the measured data.

This novel equivalent circuits only have self inductance and self capacitance, so we can design exact lumped equivalent circuit. The equivalent circuit and design formula for the presented lumped element coupler is derived based on the even- and odd-mode properties of a parallel-coupled line. By using the derived design formula, we have designed the 3 dB and 10 dB lumped element directional couplers at the center frequency of 100 MHz and 2 GHz, respectively a chip type directional coupler has been designed with multilayer configurations by employing commercial EM simulator. Designed chip-type directional couplers have a 3 dB-coupling value at the center frequency of 2 GHz and fabricated lumped directional coupler on fr4 organic substrate has a 3 dB, 10 dB-coupling values at the center frequency of 100 MHz. Excellent agreements between simulation results and measurement results on the designed directional couplers show the validity of this paper. Furthermore, in order to adapt to multi-layer process such as Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic (LTCC), chip-type lumped element couplers have been designed by using this method.

Effects of Flange Joint on the Dynamic Characteristics of the External Cylindrical Grinding Wheel Spindle (외경연삭 휠 주축의 진동특성에 미치는 플랜지 결합부의 영향)

  • In the grinding process, generally, the exciting forces with high frequency can be generated due to the wheel wear and the grinding process. As the grinding speed increases, the precise investigation about the wheel dynamic characteristics is required. Conventionally the wheel-spindle has been considered with lumped model in dynamic modeling. With this lumped model, the significant mode resulted from the shell mode of wheel can be readily ignored. This paper suggests the new analysis model which includes the shell mode of wheel in modeling the wheel-spindle assembly. Furthermore, based on the suggested model, the effects of the bolt tightening force and the taper tightening force on the dynamic properties are investigated by the finite element modal analysis and the experimental method. As a result of investigation, the shell mode vibration of wheel affects the dynamic characteristics of the spindle assembly. Also, the vibration modes of the spindle assembly are significantly affected by the joint tightening forces.

  • Blood in congenital or acquired AY fistula(arteriovenous fistula) flows from arteries directly to veins. detouring peripheral micro-circulation. This makes a great effect on the hemodynamics of human cardiovascular system. In this study, a computational method using lumped parameter mode) was proposed to simulate the cardiovascular hemodynamics of patients with acute AV fistula The cardiovascular system model with a fistula compartment in left lower limb was built using 17 standard lumped compartments. Using fourth order Runge-Kutta method. we solved numerically the unsteady linear set of the ordinary differential equations resulting from application of Kirchhoff's law to the lumped parameter hemodynamic model. The baroreceptor reflex system was implemented to explain the auto-regulation effect of the cardiovascular system with acute AV fistula.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust adaptive backstepping control of induction motors with uncertainties using nonlinear disturbance observer(NDO). The proposed NDO is applied to estimate the time-varying lumped uncertainty which are derived from unknown motor parameters and load torque, but NDO error does not converge to zero since the derivate of lumped uncertainty is not zero. Then the fuzzy neural network(FNN) is presented to estimate the NDO error such that the rotor speed to converge to a small neighborhood of the desired trajectory. Rotor flux and inverse time constant are estimated by the sliding mode adaptive flux observer. Simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, We report the miniaturization of superconducting microwave power dividers based on lumped element equivalent circuits. To do this, we analyzed a conventional branch-type power divider by using an ABCD matrix under even and odd mode excitation. Then, we calculated each lumped element impedance throughout this analysis of a transmission line matrix. Also we simulated our equivalent circuits made of lumped elements by using a full wave analysis, em Sonnet. Our deign of microwave power divider based on simulated results was fabricated on high-$T_c$ superconducting thin films deposited on MgO substrate. Experimental results were reported in terms of bandwidth, center frequency, and phase difference between $S_{21}$ and $S_{31}$. We confirm that our design will be useful in the future microwave power systum.
