AC PDP에서 다양한 형태의 ${\prod}$형 금속방전유지 전극의 효과 (Effect of Various ${\prod}$Type Metal Electrode in the AC PDP)

  • Recently, an AC Plasma Display Panels(PDP) with the metal sustain electrodes have been reported in order to reduce the manufacturing cost of the AC PDP. However, the luminance and efficacy of the AC PDP with metal electrodes are worse than those of the AC PDP with ITO electrodes. In this paper, various ${\prod}$type metal electrodes are suggested, in order to improve the electro-optical characteristics of the AC PDP with metal electrodes. Among the suggested electrode types, luminance of Hump electrode structure is higher by $40\;cd/m^2$ and discharge current of Asymmetry electrode structure is lower by 5% than those of Pi electrode structure, respectively. Moreover, $T_1$ of Hump electrode structure is reduced to 10% as compared with Pi electrode structure in address period for ADS driving scheme. In all aspects, the characteristics of Hump and Asymmetry electrode structure show best performance.

  • A new thin film materials can be built up at the molecular level, and the relationship between these artificial structures and the properties of materials can be explored. In this paper, in order to confirm the application possibility to the molecular electronic device of the organic materials, we have investigated electro-luminescent (EL) characteristics of organic EL device using $Alq_3$, PBD as emitting material. Current and luminance can be seen that express a similar relativity in voltage and could know that luminance is expressing current relativity.

  • The fiat fluorescent lamp(FFL) can be used to the LCD bat]flighting. In order to evaluate the discharge characteristics of FFL firing voltage, discharge current, luminance and CIE chromaticity with frequency were measured. The experimental results show that firing voltage decreased with increasing the frequency, discharge current increased with increasing the frequency. Luminance of FFL using Xe gas shown $2700\;cd/m^2$ in 700V rms, 80 kHz.

  • Effects of a dielectric capping layer on the luminous characteristics of top emitting organic light emitting diodes (TOLEDs) have been analyzed using a classical electromagnetic theory. Special attention was given to the influence of the cavity length on the effectiveness of the capping layer. The luminance characteristics of the TOLEDs influenced by the combined effects of the cavity length and the capping layer thickness. Furthermore, these combined effects also modify the emission spectrum and pattern of the TOLEDs, which result in the improvement of total luminance of the device, but no significant change in the device out-coupling efficiency.

  • In an attempt to enhance luminance efficiency and to reduce discharge delays of test panels with aluminum fence-electrodes, various designs of the electrodes were prepared by chemically etching the aluminum foils bonded to soda-lime glass substrate via anodic bonding process. The effects of fence design on luminance and discharge characteristics were investigated and compared with conventional ac-PDPs. These results showed a possibility of using fence-type aluminum electrode at front plates of ac-PDDs without sacrificing its performance.

  • We developed a Flat Fluorescent Lamp(FFL) with a high luminance by using the same discharge mode as PDP. Our FFL has the simple and unique structure where the glass substrates are used as dielectric layers. The panel has a striped line shape of 7 inch diagonal size. The Xe-Ne-He mixture gas was used to generate the plasma, and the gas discharge characteristics under both total gas pressure and partial gas pressure were investigated. The panel showed a maximum high luminance $7,270cd/m^2$ under bias of 20KHz pulse of 3KV.

  • AC-PDPs have recently achieved good performance and their image quality can sufficiently compete with the LCD TV. However, it is necessary more effort to improve the luminance and luminous efficacy in the PDP technology. The gas mixture ratio plays a very important role in discharge characteristics, but the mechanism of gas discharge is complex and complicated. In this paper, we investigate the mechanism of gas discharge with Ne+Xe miture ratio through zero and two dimensional fluid simulation.

  • The effects of Si -doped MgO have been investigated in order to improve the material properties of the MgO protective layer in plasma display panels. A small amount of Si is added to the MgO pellet while the MgO layer is being deposited by using an electron-beam evaporation method. Both the surface characteristics of the protecting layer and the electro-optical properties of 4 in. test panels are investigated, such as XRD patterns, SEM images, firing and sustain voltages, secondary electron emission coefficient($\gamma$), luminance, luminous efficacy and lifetime. The firing and sustain voltage are minimized when Si concentration is 0.038%, where the luminance and luminous efficacy increase up to 17% and 26% compared with that of the pure MgO film, separately, and lifetime also shows good characteristics.

Design and Analysis of Diffractive Grating Imprinted Light-guide Plate for LCD Illumination

  • A highly simplified backlight unit mainly composed of diffractive grating in sub-micron order imprinted light-guide plate (LGP) is proposed for edge-lit backlight unit. Optical characteristics of the imprinted LGP are examined by RCWA and the performance is verified through Monte Carlo simulation. Results show that the diffraction efficiency, luminous flux and its uniformity over the area are significantly affected by the angle of incident ray. Consequently couples of design considerations are additionally proposed to enhance luminous flux. In terms of peak luminance and out-coupling luminous flux, the experimental results are agreed well with the performance simulation. Finally, compared with optical characteristics of conventional backlight unit, we could conclude that the proposed simplified backlight unit made of diffractive grating imprinted light-guide plate is a good substitute for the conventional backlight unit.

시야내의 글레어감각 측정용 기기의 개발 (A Development of on Instrument for Measuring Glare Sensation in the Visual Field)

  • 인공조명으로부터 유발되는 볼쾌글레어는 건강건축의 조명환경을 위한 중요한 평가요소이다. 글레어는 인간의 전체시야범위 내에서 휘도와 휘도대비에 의해 발생되는 감각으로서 정의되며, 시각적 작업을 수행하는 재실자에게 시작업의 방해를 일으켜 시각적 불쾌감을 유발할 수도 있다. 글레어는 글레어 광원의 위치, 글레어 광원의 밝기, 글레어 광원의 크기와 배경의 휘도에 의한 영향으로 평가될 수 있다. 따라서 변수를 제외한 나머지 요소들을 일정한 상태로 유지할 수 있는 실험기기가 글레어 평가를 위해 필요하다. 최근까지 글레어 평가기기의 성능한계로 인하여 글레어 요소들 간의 상관관계를 확인함에 있어서 제한이 있었다. 이에 선행연구를 참고하여 글레어 실험기기를 제작하고 이 기기를 글레어측정기기라고 명명하였다. 글레어측정기기는 지름 2[m] 반구형 스크린 내부 표면을 균일한 배경휘도 형성을 위해 흰색 무광택 도료로 마감하였으며, 광원들이 내부에 설치되어 있다. 글레어 광원은 $0{\sim}150,000[cd/m^2]$까지 조정이 가능하며 12개의 백열램프에 의한 배경휘도는 $0{\sim}350[cd/m^2]$까지 조정이 가능하다. 글레어 측정기기를 사용하여 피험자를 대상으로 시야범위 한계, 시선상의 BCD휘도와 상하부 시야에서의 BCD휘도 측정에 대한 연구가 진행되었다.
