In case of plastic film greenhouses cultivating fresh vegetables on paddy soil, soil characteristics must be considered as more important factor than any other factors. Generally after the four years of cultivation, soils tend to increase electrical conductivity value, nutrient unbalance and soil pests. As a result, degradation of agricultural products occurred, therefore it is necessary to improve soil conditions. In this study, yield and economic cost of cucumber were analyzed. The best soil conditions for cucumber cultivation were alluvial or valley in soil topology, moderately or poorly drainage in soil drainage classes, coarse loamy soil in texture. In addition, rich-sunlight and-deep groundwater would be proper for the cucumber cultivation. Good environmental managements of plastic film greenhouse were as follows. The temperature needed to be adjusted three times. The optimal daytime temperature could be $22{\sim}28^{\circ}C$, the one from 12 until night could be $14{\sim}15^{\circ}C$, and the temperature from 24 to sunrise could be $10{\sim}12^{\circ}C$. During plant growth period, soil moisture content was as low as 10~15%, and it needed to be maintained as 15~20% during reproductive growth period. To control pests, catch crop cultivation and solar treatment were carried out, after those EC was reduced and the root-knot nematode was controled too. Cucumber yield from the plot with improved soil managements increased to $158.4Mg\;ha^{-1}$, but plot with successive cropping injury yielded $140.3Mg\;ha^{-1}$. The income from the plot with improved soil managements was 215,676 thousand won $ha^{-1}$, the plot with successive cropping injury was 131,649 thousand won $ha^{-1}$. Income rate of each plot was 51.8% and 38.4%, respectively.

This study was conducted to develop the manufacturing method of biochar using pruned stems of pear tree and its application effect on the crop growth and soil physico-chemical properties. In this study, biochar derived from pruned stems of pear tree at heating temperature of $300^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$ in heating times of 2, 3 and 4 hours, were tested in the changes of their chemical properties during biochar processing. The pH, Exch. K, Exch. Mg and cation exchange capacity (CEC) increased as the pyrolysis temperature increased during the production of biochar, and the change of these properties rapidly occurred at $500^{\circ}C$. However, as the pyrolysis temperature increased, ash content increased and total carbon (T-C), yield decreased. And the change of the properties in response to the heating time was not shown. It was thought that it would be desirable to set the production conditions of biochar at $500^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in consideration of the change of chemical properties and the ash content and yield. And also, were conducted the experiments to establish manufacturing method of farm-made biochar using drum biochar manufacturing machine and investigate the application effects of biochar on the cultivation of chinese cabbage and tomato. Application of biochar derived from pruned stems of pear tree could enhance pH, organic matter (OM), total carbon (T-C) of soil. On the other hand, soil electrical conductivity (EC), NO3-N were lowered compared to the control which has no application. The bulk density, porosity and aggregate formation of soil were improved by biochar application. The fresh matter yields of chinese cabbage and tomato were significantly increased in proportion to the application rate of biochar. This study demonstrated the effect of the biochar derived from agricultural byproduct to be as a low cost potential soil ameliorant by physico-chemical properties in eco-friendly greenhouse cultivation.

Optimum pasture management during the summer season is an important factor to maintain good regrowth and persistence of pasture. The field experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of cutting management on growth and reserve carbohydrates in stubble. and on dry matter yield of orchardgrass dominated pasture during the mid-summer season. Three different cutting times(July 15, 25 and August 5) as a main plot and three cutting heights(3, 6 and 10cm) as a sub plot were disigned with three replications. The experiment was done at pasture of Changsung Agricultural High School in 1988. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Temperature of soil surface and underground in the cutting of July 15 and July 25 was not showed significantly different, because of low intensity of radiation with a run of wet weather, and that of August 5 cutting tends to be lowed in high cutting height during the mid-summer season. 2. Amount of soil moisture against cutting height showed that high cutting had a low content. 3. Growth rate against regrowth of plant height, lear length and leaf area showed to be fast in high cutting. 4. Rapid recovery period of carbohydrate content after cutting and large amount of carbohydrate accumulation were showed in the cutting of July 15 and 25 compared with August 5 cutting in the reserve carbohydrate content against cutting of time and height during the mid-summer season. 5. Dry matter yield of the 4th and 5th cutting showed to be remarkable in July 15 cutting compared to those of July 25 and August 5. From the above results, it is suggested that the 10cm cutting height during the mid-summer season is the most effective for good regrowth, reserve carbohydrates and dry matter yield of orchardgrass.
The blueberry eco-friendly farming requires the soil condition of pH 4.2 ~ 5.2 and high in organic matters for stable growth. Most of soil types of blueberry-growing land in Korea, however, belongs to alkaline soils with low organic matter content. As a result, the eco-friendly blueberry growers use peat moss and sulfur powder heavily to improve the soil condition, but the guideline on the effective use of organic materials was not established yet. Therefore, this sturdy was performed to investigate the effect of increasing soil acidity and organic matters by using organic materials. Among 5 organic materials, the pH of soil was lowest in degradable sulfur + bentonite (pH 4.1) and followed by Peat moss+Chaff+Pine Needlesmixtures(pH 4.5), OrganicAcid +vinegar (pH 4.7), Sulfur powder (pH 4.8), Temperature response Elutioner (pH 5.2). The soil organic matter content were increased in the following order: Peat moss+Chaff+Pine Needlesmixtures (8.4%) > degradable sulfur + bentonite (7.8%) > Organic Acid + vinegar (7.2%) > Sulfur powder ${\fallingdotseq}$ Temperature response Elutioner (6.3%). Although different in the degree, all organic materials treated was recognized a good material for improving soil pH and organic matter content. The plant height and stem diameter of blueberry were no clear difference among 5 organic materials. Another study was carried out to investigate amending soils with organic matter by soil mulching with pine needles for soil surface management in blueberry organic cultivation. The effect of increasing the soil pH by pine needle mulching in blueberry eco-friendly farming was recognized in four test fields. Pine needle mulching for soil surface management in blueberry appeared several advantages, such as improving of soil pH and organic matter content. Therefore, pineneedle mulching in blueberry organic farming is considered as the most efficient means of mulching cultivation for amending soil pH, weed suppression and moisture conservation among mulching materials.
In Korea, oyster mushroom is one of the commonly cultivated mushrooms. In 2013, the cultivation areas and products of oyster mushrooms were 60,039 M/T and 201 ha, respectively. Many species of oyster mushrooms are cultivated in various countries. These include Pleurotus ostreatus, P. florida, P. sajor-caju, P. eryngii, P. citrinopileatus, P. salmoneostramineus and P. cystidiosus. P. citrinopileatus is a yellow oyster mushroom famous for its health benefits such as anti-cancer and anti-oxidant effects. Therefore, a cultivar P. citrinopileatus 'Jangdari' was developed to improve yield and the ability to grow well at lower temperatures. Two parent strains 'Gumbit (KMCC02150)' and 'KMCC02145' were selected based on their morphological characteristics. 'Jangdari' was developed by the method of Mon-Mon crossing between monokaryons derived from 'Gumbit' and 'KMCC02145', and finally selected through continuous cultivation tests. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth was $30^{\circ}C$. The cultivar could grow well at high temperatures, especially $16{\sim}24^{\circ}C$. Fruiting body production per bottle (850 mL) was about 90.0 g. Stipe length and thickness of 'Jangdari' were similar to those of 'Gumbit'. 'Jangdari' was more resistant to low temperature than 'Gumbit', and thus it could be cultivated with oyster mushrooms (P. ostreatus). In addition, while cultivating 'Jangdari', it is not required to scrape out the upper side of bottle's sawdust medium; hence, its cultivation is expected to save energy and time.

This study has been carried out to find the water Quality in coastal sea of fungmun area, southern Jeju Island. In-situ observations and water sampling had been made every month from July 1997 to June 2000. The distributions of water temperature and salinity over the study area have been 13.8~27.0℃ and 30.0~34.7‰, respectively. Salinity is showed low salinity from June to September (rainy season) because of rain. Tsushima Warm Waters (TWW) as ≥15℃ and ≥34‰ influence the adjacent sea around Jeju Island all year round. Yangtse Coastal Waters (YCW) influence the surface layer around Jeju from June to September and so strong stratification (termocline, halocline) resulted at the depth of between 20~30m at outer-sea. However the stratification does not happen even in summer at inner-sea, which seem to be caused due to vertical mixing by wind, waves and tides. A water mass of high value of water temperature and salinity (respectively 14.1~17.7℃, 33.9~34.1‰) stayed at the lower layer in outer-sea all the year round. It is probably formed by mixing between TWW and YSBCW(Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water). The mean value of DO was the lowest in summer and the highest in winter. COD and TH were the highest in summer and the lowest in winter. However, TP showed the lowest value in summer season, because the mean value of N/P ratio was over 16. The mean of N/P ratio was under 16 in other seasons. The phosphate would be a limiting factor in the growth of phytoplanHon in summer. Nitrate would be a limiting factor in other seasons. Distribution of chlorophyll a did not show any seasonal change in the study period, but especially increased during April and May in the first year(1998) and the second year(1999) all over the study area, which suggested that phytoplankton inhabitation distributed widely in the study area. The space averaged values were the highest for TIN in rainy season and lower for TP in rainy season than in other seasons. It suggests that river runoff influences the inner-sea.

This study adopts high resolution 3D X-ray CT imaging technique to visualize and evaluate the internal structure of experimentally frozen soils. Temperature and elastic wave velocity are also measured during the freezing process. The X-ray images of frozen specimens reveal that no changes in internal structure are observed for sand specimen, whereas systematic growth pattern of pore ice is observed within clay specimen. The freezing patterns are then quantified by a set of X-ray images with the aid of two-point correlation method by computing characteristic length Lr. The results reveal that characteristic length for pore ice freezing pattern in clay linearly increases with respect to the distance from the cooling source, so that Lr at the bottom layer is 2.5 times greater than the top layer when freezing process is completed. Furthermore, during the freezing process, local temperature differences are not observed in sand, but observed in clay specimen due to its relatively low thermal conductivity.
The button mushroom 'A. bisporus' is the most commonly grown mushroom worldwide. The color of 'Agaricus bisporus' is white and brown. Recently, the consumption of brown button mushrooms has been increasing steadily. 'Danseok-1ho' was bred using the multi-spore random mating method and named after Danseok Mountain in Gyeongju, the region where 'A. bisporus' was first grown in Korea. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth was between $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$, and the mushroom production temperature was between $15^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. The color and shape of 'Danseok-1ho' are medium brown and spherical, respectively. The width and thickness of the pileus are 45.1 mm and 23.5 mm, respectively. The hardness and L of chromaticity of 'Danseok-1ho' are $8,937g/{\Phi}5mm$ and 50.4, respectively. The incubation period is around 20 days and mushroom production takes about 18 days after casing. A typical characteristic of 'Danseok-1ho' is that the individual occurrence rate is high, so mushroom losses are low during harvest.
This study was carried out to elucidate the effects of mulching materials on the growth of potato and weed control at the experimental farm of Chungbuk National University from August 9 in 2008 to June 28 in 2009. Tested potato, cv. 'Superior', was grown under the different mulching materials such as pine tree leaf, oak tree leaf, rice straw, rice hull and sawdust, and control(non-mulching). We tested two times with autumn and spring culture season. The obtained results from this study were summarized as follows; There was significantly difference in plant height, stem length, leaf length, leaf weight and tuber weight in pine tree leaf mulching treatment in autumn season among the treatments. The dominant weeds were Echinochioa crus-galli var. fadmerntacca and Cyperus amvuricus in autumn culture season, while were Echinochioa crus-galli var. fadmerntacca and Digitaria sanguinalis in spring culture season. The appearance of weeds in all of mulching treatment was significant reduced compared to control. The soil moisture content was the highest in rice hull mulching treatment, and that of mulching treatments was significantly higher than control. The soil temperature of mulching treatments was lower than that of control by from $1.0^{\circ}C$to $2.8^{\circ}C$ in autumn season and from $0.7^{\circ}C$ to $2.3^{\circ}C$ in spring season. The soil temperature was low in the order of pine tree leaf, rice straw, oak tree leaf, rice hull, sawdust, and control.
Dynamics of phytoplankton community were monthly examined at two sites in Lake Juam from January to December 2003. One site is located near the Dam, an intake tower, where obtain a drinking water resource, the other site is located in the shallow region, Mundeok-bridge, the upstream or effluent part of lake. During the study, there made little the differences in physicochemical factors between two sites, but numbers of species and standing crops of phytoplankton differ remarkably. Totally, 41% of green algae and 35.8% of diatoms were comprised of total phytoplankton species, while 46.3% of dinoflagellates and 27.6% of cyanobacteria contributed in total standing crops of Phytoplankton community. Cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginora and diatom Fragilaria crotonensis dominated the Dam site during a warm season, while dinoflagellates Peridinium bipes and Asterionella formosa were at the shallow region during a cold season, respectively. According to the CCA analysis, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand and total phosphate strongly affected the growth of P. bipes with low water temperature. In addition, the increment of total nitrogen and water temperature affected biomass of a cyanobacterium M. aeruginosa. Collectively, it may suggest that the majority of annual primary production of Lake Juam is covered by two dominant species Peridinium bipes in cold season and Microcystis aeruginosa in warm season.
