A general purpose experimental set-up has been designed and implemented for students to carry out various experiments on inverters in the power electronics laboratories of universities, during a few hours of laboratory work. This is the first inverter setup that incorporates hardware and software control, as well as an optional user interface in a laboratory experimental set-up of a single multi-purpose inverter, thus making the system versatile and very practical for both undergraduate and graduate students. The system can be controlled either by a computer or through a liquid crystal display (LCD) and a keypad control unit, and it constitutes a low-cost alternative to relatively expensive commercial teaching sets. The computer provides a user friendly interface and easier control for laboratory environments equipped with computers. The LCD and keypad units eliminate the need for a computer, which makes this system usable in the laboratory as a standalone unit as well.
The block cipher ARIA has been threatened by side-channel analysis, and much research on countermeasures of this attack has also been produced. However, studies on countermeasures of ARIA are focused on software implementation, and there are no reports about hardware designs and their performance evaluation. Therefore, this article presents an advanced masking algorithm which is strong against second-order differential power analysis (SODPA) and implements a secure ARIA hardware. As there is no comparable report, the proposed masking algorithm used in our hardware module is evaluated using a comparison result of software implementations. Furthermore, we implement the proposed algorithm in three types of hardware architectures and compare them. The smallest module is 10,740 gates in size and consumes an average of 47.47 ${\mu}W$ in power consumption. Finally, we make ASIC chips with the proposed design, and then perform security verification. As a result, the proposed module is small, energy efficient, and secure against SODPA.
Recently the roles of railways about the prevention of global warming caused by greenhouse gases and for low carbon green growth are larger than ever. And the railroad-related research institutions have been active in researching for energy conservation. Especially the urban railroad has been emerged as the best means of transportation compared to the general public transportation systems in punctuality, stability, ecology and etc. In operating the urban railroad system there are various ways for energy savings. In the larger category, One is the hardware aspect according to the structure of the vehicle and the development of control systems. The other is the software aspect which efficient train operation can be made through control of driving patterns and driving diagram. In this paper, there is sense to analyze the result in verifying expectation relation with variable and the use of electric power on this after selecting main variables that can influence to the energy of the train operation in the software aspect. First, after collecting the basic data related to operation(train speed, operating hours, power consumption, the position of stopping station, electrical power system etc.) and according to this, investigating the consumption of the energy of the operation, in the side of energy consumption deducing and analyzing problem, this will be found solutions.
This paper proposes a Multiband Shunt Hybrid Active Filter (SHAF) with sensorless control. A plant is modeled in the discrete- time domain and a controller is designed using the Pole shifting law in the polynomial domain. This control approach is very useful for filtering the load harmonics with reduced sensor counts where a low cost solution like SHAF is required. Multiple Synchronous Reference Frames (MSRF) and low pass filters are used to measure the $5^{th}$ and $7^{th}$ harmonic components separately from the load and filter currents. Individual current controllers are designed for the $5^{th}$ and $7^{th}$ harmonic currents. Control is realized in the stationary, three-phase (abc) reference frame. Performance of the controller is validated through simulation, using realistic plant and controller models, as well as experimentally on a full-scale distribution system.
Two major obstacles in the utilization of electrical vehicles are their price and range. The collaboration of direct torque control (DTC) with induction motor (IM) is preferred for its low cost, easy implementation, and parameter independency. However, in terms of edges, the method has drawbacks, such as variable switching frequency and undesired current harmonic distortion. These drawbacks result in acoustic noise, reduced efficiency, and electromagnetic interference. A feed-forward approach for stator-flux-oriented DTC with space vector pulse-width modulation is presented in in this paper. The outcome of the proposed method is low current harmonic distortion with fixed switching frequency while preserving the torque performance and simple application feature of basic DTC. The method is applicable to existing and forthcoming IM drive systems via software adaptation. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed by simulation and experimental results.

Intelligent services have expanded as Internet of Things (IoT) technology has evolved and new requirements emerge to accommodate various services. One new requirement is transmitting data over long distances with low-power. Researchers have developed low power wide area (LPWA) network technology to satisfy the requirement; this can improve IoT network infrastructure and increase the range of services. However, network coverage expansion causes several problems. The traffic load is concentrated at a specific gateway, which causes network congestion and leads to decreased transmission efficiency. Therefore, the approach proposed in this paper attempts to recognize and then avoid congestion through gateway channel hopping. The LPWA network employs multiple channels, so wireless channel hopping is available in a gateway. Devices that are not delay sensitive wait for the gateway to reappear on their wireless channel; delay sensitive devices change the wireless channel along the hopping gateway. Thus, the traffic load and congestion in each wireless channel can be reduced improving transmission efficiency. The proposed approach's performance is evaluated by computer simulation and verified in terms of transmission efficiency.
At the end of the 19th century, a battle known as the War of the Currents was fought over how electricity would be generated, delivered, and utilized. In this day and age, there has been a growing interest in Green Growth policies as countermeasures against global warming. As a result of these policies, the use of new and renewable energy needed a power converter to replace fossil fuels has expanded. To reduce power consumption through high efficiency of conversion, Low Voltage DC (LVDC) distribution systems are suggested as an alternative. In a DC distribution system, DC loads are very efficient due to decrease the stages of power conversion. If the LVDC distribution system is adopted, not only DC load but also existing AC loads should be connected with LVDC system. Thus, the modeling of two loads is needed to analyze the DC distribution system. This paper, especially, is focused on the modeling of resistive load and electronic load including power electronic converters using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) software.
The performance prediction software developed in this paper is a process analysis tool that enables one to foretell the behavior of processes when certain conditions of operation are altered. The immediate objective of this research is to predict the process characteristics of combined heat and power plant under varying operating conditions. A cogeneration virtual power plant that mimics the mechanical performance of the actual plant was constructed and the performance of the power plant was predicted in the following varying atmospheric conditions: temperature, pressure and humidity. This resulted in a positive outcome where the performance of the power plant under changing conditions were correctly predicted as well as the calorific value of low calorific gas fuel such as shale gas and PNG. The performance prediction tool can detect the operation characteristics of the power plant through the performance index analysis and thus propose the operation method taking into consideration the changes in environmental conditions.
In this work, we present the novel scheduling algorithm of the multimedia data retrieval for the mobile disk drive. Our algorithm is focused on minimizing the power consumption involved in data retrieval from the local disk drive. The prime commodity in mobile devices is the electricity. Strict restriction on power consumption requirement of the mobile device put unique demand in designing of its hardware and software components. State of the art disk based storage subsystem becomes small enough to be embedded in handhold devices. It delivers abundant storage capacity and portability. However, it is never be trivial to integrate small hard disk or optical disk drive in handhold devices due to its excessive power consumption. Our algorithm ARM in this article generates the optimal schedule of retrieving data blocks from the mobile disk drive while guaranteeing continuous playback of multimedia data.
Recently, there a lot of activities on the researches that implement many kinds of control system using power lines. To implement that, it is desirable to use hybrid PSK model because it takes advantage of PSK and DPSK which has a low-bit-error rate. In this parer, we implement the transmitter of this model. Because the power line is not designed for the data communication, we separated the signal generator circuit and the signal loading circuit so that minimized noises from outside. Also, to make it easy on the experiments, most of process are performed by software. As a result, transmitting a high frequency signal on the power line made no effects on the electrical devices.
