Test of Communication Distance Measurement of Fishing Gear Automatic System Based on Private LoRa (Private LoRa 기반 어구 자동식별 시스템의 거리 측정 시험)

  • Since the ocean accounts for 70.8 percent of the earth's surface, the success of IoT technology in the marine industry is to collect information from devices placed in a wider range. LPWA is a feature with a wide range of communication and is very suitable for deployment in the ocean. In this paper, the real-sea performance distance experiment was carried out based on Private LoRa, a key technology for executing the electronic phrase real-name system. A private LoRa module based on sx1276 was developed, and Gateway was developed to transfer data received by private LoRa to the server using SKT Cat. M1. After installing gateways at 599 meters above sea level and experimenting with data transmission and reception at 25 km, 40 km and 60 km, we were able to see that the communication success rate was obtained to be 96.1%. 97.1% and 96.2% respectively.

Corrosion mitigation of photovoltaic ribbon using a sacrificial anode (희생양극을 이용한 태양광 리본의 부식 저감)

  • Degradation is commonly observed in field-aged PV modules due to corrosion of the photovoltaic ribbon. The reduced performance is caused by a loss of fill factor due to the high series resistance in the PV ribbon. This study aimed to mitigate the degradation by corrosion using five sacrificial anodes - Al, Zn and their alloys - to identify the most effective material to mitigate the corrosion of the PV ribbon. The corrosion behavior of the five sacrificial anode materials were examined by open circuit potential measurements, potentiodynamic polarization tests, and galvanic current density and potential measurements using a zero resistance ammeter. Immersion tests for 120 hours were also conducted using materials and damp heat test tests were performed for 1500 hours using 4 cell mini modules. The Al-3Mg and Al-3Zn-1Mg sacrificial anodes had a low corrosion rate and reduced drop in power, making then suitable for long-term use.

Design of DUC/DDC for the Underwater Basestation Based on Underwater Acoustic Communication (수중기지국 수중 음향 통신을 위한 DUC/DDC 설계)

  • Recently, there has been an increasing need for underwater communication systems to monitor ocean environments and prevent marine disasters, as well as to secure ocean resources. Most underwater communication systems adopted acoustic communication with a consideration of attenuation, absorption, and scattering in conductive sea water, and developed fully digital modems based on processors. In this study, a digital up converter (DUC) and a digital down converter (DDC) was developed for an underwater basestation based on underwater acoustic communication systems. Because one of the most important issues in underwater acoustic communication systems is low power consumption due to environmental problems, this study developed a specific hardware module for DUC and DDC. It supported four links of underwater acoustic communication systems and converted the sampling rate and frequency. The systemwas designed and verified using Verilog-HDL in ModelSim environment with the test data generated from baseband layer parts for an underwater base station.

Development of SMH Actuator System Using Hydrogen-Absorbing Alloy

  • This paper presents the temperature-pressure characteristics of a new SMH actuator using a Peltier module. The SMH actuator is characterized by its small size, low weight, noiseless operation, and compliance similar to that of the human body. The simple SMH actuator, consisting of the plated hydrogen-absorbing alloys as a power source, Peltier elements as a heat source, and a cylinder with metal bellows as a functioning part has been developed. To improve the thermal conductivity of the hydrogen-absorbing alloy, an assembly of copper pipes has been used. It is well known that hydrogen-absorbing alloys can reversibly absorb and desorb a large amount of hydrogen, more than about 1000 times of their own volume. The hydrogen equilibrium pressure increases when hydrogen is desorbed by heating of the hydrogen-absorbing alloys, whereas by cooling the alloys, the hydrogen equilibrium pressure decreases and hydrogen is absorbed. The new special metal hydride (SMH) actuator uses the reversible reaction between the heat energy and mechanical energy of a hydrogen absorbing alloys. The desirable characteristics of SMH actuator, which makes it suitable for the uses in medical and rehabilitation applications, have been also studied. For this purpose, the characteristics of the new SMH actuator for different temperature, pressure, and external load were explored.

A S/C/X-Band GaN Low Noise Amplifier MMIC (S/C/X-대역 GaN 저잡음 증폭기 MMIC)

  • This paper presents a S/C/X-band LNA MMIC with resistive feedback structure in 0.25 um GaN HEMT process. The GaN devices have advantages as a high output power device having high breakdown voltage, energy band gap and stability at high temperature. Since the receiver using the GaN device with high linearity can be implemented without a limiter, the noise figure of the receiver can be improved and the size of receiver module can be reduced. The proposed GaN LNA MMIC based on 0.25 um GaN HEMT device is achieved the gain of > 15 dB, the noise figure of < 3 dB, the input return loss of > 13 dB, and the output return loss of > 8 dB in the S/C/X-band. The current consumption of GaN LNA MMIC is 70 mA with the drain voltage 20 V and the gate voltage -3 V.

  • In this paper, the method to improve audio noise when GMS(Global System of Mobile Communication) is built in HPC(Handheld PC)is provided. The biggest problem with quality of audio is improved by connecting GSM module with wire to the widest erea near by HPC Power Ground to reduce impedance difference, and designing amplifier and earpiece, Result of measurement is satisfied with GSM Acoustic Standard. Standard of GSM Audio is declared in GSM 11.10 ETS 300 607-1. Measuring items corresponds to that standard and B&K Type 6712 is used for measurement. The list of measurement presented in this paper is Sending Sensitivity Frequency Response and SLR, Sending Loudness Rating( SLR level), Receiving Sensitivity Loudness Rating(RLR level), Talker Sidetone(STMR), Stability margin, and Echo Loss(ERL)

A Study on the Actuator for Robot Control Using Wireless ZigBee Sensor Networks

  • The Interest in robotics has been steadily increasing in recent times both in Korea as well as abroad. Research on robots for new and diverse fields is ongoing. This study discusses the current research and development on robot actuator, which are used to control the joints of robots, and focuses on developing more efficient technology for joint control, as compared with the current technologies. It also aims to find means to apply the abovementioned technology to diverse industrial fields. We found that easy and effective control of actuators could be achieved by using ZigBee sensor networks, which were widely being used on wireless communications. Throughout the experiments it is proved that the developed wireless actuator could be used for easy control of various robot joints. This technology can be effectively applied to develop two-legged robots that will be able to walk like human, or even quadruped and hexapod robots. It can also be applied to motors used in industry. In this study, we develop an extremely minimized ZigBee sensor network module that can be used to control various servo motors with low power consumption even if it is long distances. We realized effective wireless control by optimizing the ZigBee antenna, and were able to quickly check the status of relevant Tree node through mutual communication between the servo motors composing the ZigBee sensor network and the main server control modules. The developed Servo Motor with ZigBee sensor network modules can be applied in both robotics as well as for home or factory automation.

The Processing Method of Stream Data in the Small-size Operating System (소규모 운영체제에서의 스트림데이터 처리기법)

  • Stream data need a efficient data management with high reliability and real time processing. The characteristics of these data are a large volume, a short report interval and asynchronous report time. The typical queries of these systems consist of the current query to search the latest signal value, the snapshot query to search the signal value of a past time, the historical query to search the signal value of a past time to current. This paper proposes the efficient method to manage the above signals by using a file structured database in QNX operating systems. The query model to accommodate various query for stream data is proposed. The proposed methods are applied to reactive protection system to verify their usefulness. The COM(Cabinet Operator Module) based on the QNX employs file database that adopts a delta version and a buffering method for the resource limit of a small storage and a low computing power.

  • Social issues for environmental pollution are continuously increasing globally. Especially, Users require services to measure environmental factors in indoor and outdoor and manage related data effectively and conveniently. According to this demand, sensors that can measure environmental factors in indoor and outdoor have been developed. However, since one sensor is composed of independent module, the interface of output data from each sensor is different. To solve the problem, we propose a customized protocol for low-power short-range wireless communication between smartphone using Bluetooth and All-in-One sensor device board and analyze the performance of the proposed customized protocol by developing program for performance verification of interface with user smartphone through Bluetooth. In addition, we implement a smartphone application using proposed protocol.

An Energy Harvesting Aware Routing Algorithm for Hierarchical Clustering Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Recently, energy harvesting technology has been integrated into wireless sensor networks to ameliorate the nodes' energy limitation problem. In theory, the wireless sensor node equipped with an energy harvesting module can work permanently until hardware failures happen. However, due to the change of power supply, the traditional hierarchical network routing protocol can not be effectively adopted in energy harvesting wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we improve the Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol to make it suitable for the energy harvesting wireless sensor networks. Specifically, the cluster heads are selected according to the estimation of nodes' harvested energy and consumed energy. Preference is given to the nodes with high harvested energy while taking the energy consumption rate into account. The utilization of harvested energy is mathematically formulated as a max-min optimization problem which maximizes the minimum energy conservation of each node. We have proved that maximizing the minimum energy conservation is an NP-hard problem theoretically. Thus, a polynomial time algorithm has been proposed to derive the near-optimal performance. Extensive simulation results show that our proposed routing scheme outperforms previous works in terms of energy conservation and balanced distribution.
