Logic Based Expert System (LBES) has the advantage of real-time inference. This paper shows a LBES for fault diagnosis of power system and proposes the hardware implementation of LBES. Besides, having a power system topology in memory chip, proposed system is apt to be applicable to other system with low changing cost.
Inconveniences which might arise in transmitting measured biological data based on cable protocols generally are recognized critical points in tele-monitoring environment and also restrict the mobility of the user. a. Especially, activity monitoring which is importantly recognized as a core parameter in ubiquitous healthcare arena and weight management, pervasive and wireless measuring technology is most needed. In this paper, we would like to suggest lower power, miniaturized communication system in order to solve the above problems. The suggested system is powered by small coin-size battery. Also, The suggested system is compared with a blue-tooth module which is generally available in the commercial market. Even though, the suggested system didn't have higher transmission rate, its low power consumption make the suggested system would be feasible in ubiquitous monitoring of biological signals in ubiquitous healthcare arena.
The goal of this research is to reduce dynamic and static power consumption for a low power cache system. The proposed cache can achieve a low power consumption by using a drowsy and a way prediction mechanism. For reducing the static power, the drowsy technique is used at 4-way set associative cache. And for reducing the dynamic energy, one among four ways is selectively accessed on the basis of information in the Way-Line Prediction Unit (WLPU). This prediction mechanism does not introduce any additional delay though prediction misses are occurred. The WLPU can effectively reduce the performance overhead of the conventional drowsy caching by waking only a drowsy cache line and one way in advance. Our results show that the proposed cache can reduce the power consumption by about 40% compared with the 4-way drowsy cache.
IEC is an international standards which are used in many countries with Europe as the center. IEC standard is introduced in Korea according to WTO/TBT agreements, however until now there are no buildings in Korea which are designed applying IEC standard. Therefore, KEA(Korea Electric Association) is scheduled to construct Korean low voltage electrical installation integration test site which is designed applying IEC standard. In this paper, before being under construction of Korean low voltage electrical installation integration test site, power substation is modeled based on real design parameters and method to select circuit breakers and cables is presented applying IEC standard in the modeled power substation. EMTP(ElctroMagnetic Transient Program) is used for simulation program. EMTP which is power system analysis program is easy to model power system and power substation.
We present a piezoelectric energy harvester with stopper-engaged dynamic magnifier which is capable of significantly increasing the operating bandwidth and the energy (power) harvested from a broad range of low frequency vibrations (<30 Hz). It uses a mass-loaded polymer beam (primary spring-mass system) that works as a dynamic magnifier for another mass-loaded piezoelectric beam (secondary spring-mass system) clamped on primary mass, constituting a two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) system. Use of polymer (polycarbonate) as the primary beam allows the harvester not only to respond to low frequency vibrations but also generates high impulsive force while the primary mass engages the base stopper. Upon excitation, the dynamic magnifier causes mechanical impact on the base stopper and transfers a secondary shock (in the form of impulsive force) to the energy harvesting element resulting in an increased strain in it and triggers nonlinear frequency up-conversion mechanism. Therefore, it generates almost four times larger average power and exhibits over 250% wider half-power bandwidth than those of its conventional 2-DOF counterpart (without stopper). Experimental results indicate that the proposed device is highly applicable to vibration energy harvesting in automobiles.

An experimental study is conducted for unsteady wet steam flow in a four-stage low-pressure test steam turbine. The measurements are carried out at outlets of the last two stages by using a newly developed fast response aerodynamic probe. This FRAP-HTH probe (Fast Response Aerodynamic Probe - High Temperature Heated) has a miniature high-power cartridge heater with an active control system to heat the probe tip, allowing it to be applied to wet steam measurements. The phase-locked average results obtained with a sampling frequency of 200 kHz clarify the flow characteristics, such as the blade wakes and secondary vortexes, downstream from the individual rotational blades in the wet steam environment.
The development of electric vehicle power electronics system control, composed of DC-AC inverters and DC-DC converters, attract much research interest in the modern industry. A DC-AC inverter supplies the high-power motor torques of the propulsion system and utility loads of electric vehicles, whereas a DC-DC converter supplies the conventional low-power and low-voltage loads. However, the need for high-power bidirectional DC-DC converters in future electric vehicles has led to the development of many new topologies of DC-DC converters. The nonlinear control of power converters is an active research area in the field of power electronics. This paper focuses on the use of the fuzzy sliding mode strategy as a control strategy for buck-boost DC-DC converter power supplies in electric vehicles. The proposed fuzzy controller specifies changes in control signals based on the surface and knowledge on surface changes to satisfy the sliding mode stability and attraction conditions. The performance of the proposed fuzzy sliding controller is compared to that of the classical sliding mode controller. The satisfactory simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed control law, which reduces the chattering phenomenon. Moreover, the obtained results prove the robustness of the proposed control law against variations in load resistance and input voltage in the studied converter.
This paper presents a high-efficiency power conditioning system (PCS) for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) modules. The proposed PCS consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a single-phase DC-AC inverter for the grid-connected PV modules. A soft-switching step-up DC-DC converter is proposed to generate a high DC-link voltage from the low PV module voltage with a high-efficiency. A DC-link voltage controller is presented for constant DC-link voltage regulation. A half-bridge inverter is used for the single-phase DC-AC inverter for grid connection. A grid current controller is suggested to supply PV electrical power to the power grid with a unity power factor. Experimental results are obtained from a 180 W grid-connected PV module system using the proposed PCS. The proposed PCS achieves a high power efficiency of 93.0 % with an unity power factor for a 60 Hz / 120 Vrms AC power grid.
The present study explained the phenomenon that low frequency oscillation is synchronized with discrete data obtained from a wide area system, and a sync search method. When a disturbance occurs in an power system, various controllers operate in order to maintain synchronization. If the system's damping is poor, low frequency oscillations continue for a long time and the oscillations are synchronized with one another at specific frequency. The present study estimated dominant modes, magnitude and phase of signals by applying parameter estimation methods to discrete signals obtained from an power system, and performed sync search among wide area signals by comparing the estimated data. Sync search was performed by selecting those with the same frequency and damping constant from dominant oscillation modes included in a large number of signals, and comparing their magnitude and phase. In addition, we defined sync indexes in order to indicate the degree of sync between areas in a wide area system. Furthermore, we proposed a wide area sync search method by normalizing mode magnitude in discrete data obtained from critical generator of the wide area. By applying the sync search method and sync indexes proposed in this study to two area systems, we demonstrated that sync scanning can be performed for discrete signals obtained from power systems.
This paper presents a low voltage-stress AC-linked charge equalizing system for balancing the energy in a serially connected, valve-regulated lead acid battery string using a modular converter that consists of multiple transformers coupled together. Each converter was coupled through an AC-linked bus to increase the overall energy transfer efficiency of the system and to eliminate the problem of the unbalanced charging of batteries. Previous solutions are based on centralized and modularized topologies. A centralized topology requires a redesign of the hardware and related components. It also faces a high voltage stress when the number of batteries is expanded. Modularized solutions use low-voltage-stress, double-stage, DC-linked topologies which leads to poor energy transfer efficiency. The proposed solution uses a low-voltage stress, AC-linked, modularized topology that makes adding more batteries easier. It also has a better energy transfer efficiency. To ensure that the charge equalization system operates smoothly and safely charges batteries, a small intelligent microcontroller was used in the control section. The efficiency of this charge equalization system is 85%, which is 21% better than other low-voltage-stress DC-linked charging techniques. The validity of this approach was confirmed by experimental results.
