Gas/liquid two-phase ejector is a device without moving parts, in which liquid is used to drive gas of a low-pressure source. In this paper, the hydrodynamic characteristics of a vertical down type two-phase ejector were studied using an air-water loop system. Entrained air flow rates were measured with inlet and outlet pressures of the ejector with varying water flow rate. Homogeneous bubbly flows in the discharge pipe were confirmed by the high speed flow visualization method. Quantitative measurements of void fraction were made using a newly developed fiber optic probe system.

We present two high-order potential flow models for the evolution of the interface in the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in two dimensions. One is the source-flow model and the other is the Layzer-type model which is based on an analytic potential. The late-time asymptotic solution of the source-flow model for arbitrary density jump is obtained. The asymptotic bubble curvature is found to be independent to the density jump of the fluids. We also give the time-evolution solutions of the two models by integrating equations numerically. We show that the two high-order models give more accurate solutions for the bubble evolution than their low-order models, but the solution of the source-flow model agrees much better with the numerical solution than the Layzer model.

n a enclosed square cavity occurred B nard convection, the flow phenomena in the surrounding of the bubble attached at the upper cooled solid wall were studied by using a thermo-sensitive liquid-crystal tracer and image processing techniques. This method offers the advantage of measuring the entire flow field in a selected plane within the fluid at a given instant of time in contrast to point by point method like T/C. Quantitative data of the temperature were obtained by applying a colour-image-processing to the visualized image. As the flowing in a bubble, In a bubble size appears the flow phenomena which the direction of flow is reversed in the entire temperature and flow field. The observed phenomena are described with regard to the thermocapillary convection.
In this paper, we present flow patterns around and performance of an air-flow separator by using the numerical analysis. With this separator, particles of different density are to be separated by using the drag force from the air flow. The low-density particles are designed to be separated by using inhalation through holes on a rotating drum. To obtain the flow informations needed for determining the proper design parameters, we have performed numerical simulations by using a commercial code, ANSYS CFX. Various parameter set was tested and it was found that depending on the design of drums there exist critical parameter set regarding the attachment of light particles on the drum, which is prerequisite for the separation of materials. We present here the possibility of using the present design in separation of particles mixed in the clod for use in recycling.

As the preliminary stage for the countermeasure of thermal loading in miller cycle engine, coolant flows in the cylinder head of base engine including exhaust valve bridge were visualized and analyzed by using PIV technique. It was found that low coolant velocity regions were around exhaust valve bridge, around which stagnation of the coolant flow was observed due to the complex geometry configuration of water jacket. And velocity variation between each cylinder was remarkable. For the countermeasure of these, it is necessary to enhance coolant flow around exhaust valve bridge and to improve the deviation of coolant flow between each cylinder.

This paper reports the characteristics of the three dimensional turbulent flow by numerical method in the 180 degree bends with increasing cross-sectional area. Calculated pressure and velocity, Reynolds stress distributions are compared to the experimental data. Turbulence model employed are low Reynolds number $textsc{k}$-$\varepsilon$ model and algebraic stress model(ASM). The results show that the main vortex generated from the inlet part of the bend maintained to outlet of the bend and vortices are continually developed at the inner wall region. The distribution of turbulent kinetic energy along the bend are increase up to 120$^{\circ}$ because of increment of cross-sectional area. Secondary flow strength of the flow is lower about 60% than that of square duct flow.

The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the secondary fluid flow rate through GLHX on a GSHP system with vertical single U-tube type GLHXs. The COP of a GSHP system with large flow rate was lower than it with small flow rate due to large power consumption of ground loop circulating pump. It is suggested that the heat pump unit with high COP and low flow rate through the GLHX have to be selected in order to enhance the performance of the system and reduce the length of GLHX.
High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) is a relatively safe and effective noninvasive ventilation method that was recently accepted as a treatment option for acute respiratory support before endotracheal intubation or invasive ventilation. The action mechanism of HFNC includes a decrease in nasopharyngeal resistance, washout of dead space, reduction in inflow of ambient air, and an increase in airway pressure. In preterm infants, HFNC can be used to prevent reintubation and initial noninvasive respiratory support after birth. In children, flow level adjustments are crucial considering their maximal efficacy and complications. Randomized controlled studies suggest that HFNC can be used in cases of moderate to severe bronchiolitis upon initial low-flow oxygen failure. HFNC can also reduce intubation and mechanical ventilation in children with respiratory failure. Several observational studies have shown that HFNC can be beneficial in acute asthma and other respiratory distress. Multicenter randomized studies are warranted to determine the feasibility and adherence of HFNC and continuous positive airway pressure in pediatric intensive care units. The development of clinical guidelines for HFNC, including flow settings, indications, and contraindications, device management, efficacy identification, and safety issues are needed, particularly in children.
A Navier-Stokes code has been developed to simulate the flow through a cross flow fan. It is based on an unstructured finite volume method and uses moving grid technique to model the rotation of the fan. A low Reynolds number turbulence model is used to calculate eddy viscosity. The basic algorithm is SIMPLE. Numerical simulations over a wide range of flow rate are carried out to validate the code. Comparison of all numerical solutions with experimental data confirms the validity of the present code. Present numerical solutions show a noticeable improvement over a previous numerical method which is based on a model of body force to simulate the rotation of the impeller.
An in-house supersonic ejector was designed to ensure low pressure and high speed scavenging of resonating cavity of chemical lasers. For given primary flow condition, 100g/s secondary mass flow rate was observed at the design pressure. Performance validation of a supersonic ejector system along with an investigation of effects of supersonic diffuser was conducted. Placement of diffuser at the secondary inlet further reduced diffuser upstream pressure to 1/4-1/5 relieving the local to the primary supply unit. In order to increase the secondary flow, we put two ejectors capable of removing 50g/s each of secondary flows together to deal with higher mass flow. Test of the parallel unit demonstrated the secondary flow rate was proportional to the numbers of individual units that were brought together. Additionally, flow calculations with a commercial code were carried out in every case of experiment and compared with results.
