  • This paper presents a new driving method that can drive AC PDPs with low voltage and controlled-current for the sustaining period. The discharge current flowing into the AC PDP is limited in this method. Thus, the power consumption for the discharge is reduced and the discharge input power to output luminance efficiency is improved. Experimental results using this driving method showed that we could drive an AC PDP with a voltage source as low as 146 V and that luminous efficiency of 1.33 lm/W can be achieved.

  • The high penetration level of inverter-based distributed generation (DG) power plants is challenging the low-voltage ride-through requirements, especially under unbalanced voltage sags. Recently, a flexible injection of both positive- (PS) and negative-sequence (NS) reactive currents has been suggested for the next generation of grid codes. This can enhance the ancillary services for voltage support at the point of common coupling (PCC). In light of this, considering distant grid faults that occur in a mainly inductive grid, this paper proposes a complete voltage support control scheme for the interface inverters of medium or high-rated DG power plants. The first contribution is the development of a reactive current reference generator combining PS and NS, with a feature to increase the PS voltage and simultaneously decrease the NS voltage, to mitigate voltage imbalance. The second contribution is the design of a voltage support control loop with two flexible PCC voltage set points, which can ensure continuous operation within the limits required in grid codes. In addition, a current saturation strategy is also considered for deep voltage sags to avoid overcurrent protection. Finally, simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • Automatic reclosing is a typical protection method in power distribution systems for the clearing of temporary faults. However, it has a fatal weakness in regards to voltage sags because it produces repetitive voltage sags. In this paper, we explored the repetitive impact of voltage sag due to the automatic reclosing of power distribution systems. The actual tests of low voltage loads were carried out for obtaining the susceptibility of voltage sags. The final results of the tests yielded power acceptability curves of voltage sag, and the curves transformed the 3-dimensional CBEMA (Computer Business Equipment Manufacturer Association) format. For the quantitative evaluation of the impact of repetitive voltage sags, an assessment formulation using the voltage sag contour was proposed. The proposed formulation was tested by using the voltage sag contour data of IEEE standard and the results of the test. Through the case studies, we verified that the proposed method can be effectively used to evaluate the actual impact of repetitive voltage sags.

  • As environmental issues have been taken seriously, the number of solar power generation facilities has rapidly increased in Korea. The voltage at the output stage of an inverter increases in a system that connects a small-capacity photovoltaic power generation to low-voltage power distribution. This degrades the quality of the low-voltage distribution system and adversely affects the load facility. In this study, a solution was obtained to increase the voltage at the output stage of the solar inverter according to the connection of the low-voltage distribution system. The voltage can be controlled by using reactive power factor control inverters. If the secondary tap is adjusted, the voltage can be adjusted to about 15 V, but there is a problem in that the tap is not adjusted unless the KEPCO distribution regulation voltage is out of the range of 220±13V. If the number of inverters is limited, the inverter can be started within the inverter overvoltage range. If it is connected to three phases, the voltage is distributed. The results indicated that power factor control and active voltage control inverters were easy to apply in the field.

  • In this paper, a novel control scheme compensating source voltage unbalance and harmonic currents for hybrid active power filters is proposed, where no low/high-pass filters are used in compensation voltage composition. The phase angle and compensation voltages for source harmonic current and unbalanced voltage components are derived from the positive sequence component of the unbalanced voltage set, which is simply obtained by using digital all-pass filters. Since a balanced set of the source voltage obtained by scaling the positive sequence components is used as reference values for source current and load voltage, it is possible to eliminate the necessity of low/high-pass filters in the reference generation. Therefore the control algorithm is much simpler and gives more stable performance than the conventional method. In addition, the source harmonic current is eliminated by compensating for the harmonic voltage of the load side added to feedback control of the fundamental component.

  • In this paper, we present design rule of high-voltage rectangular generator working in wide band frequency domain. Though power electronics now have voltage ratings up to several kV, it is difficult to design and fabricate high-voltage systems with the power electronic devices alone. So we have combined IGBT with technically designed transformer to get the high-voltage rectangular waveforms. In this work, next two things are the main factors. The first one is design of transformer working low-frequency domain of less than 10Hz. And the second one is adding offset voltage part. As a result, we can get variable frequency high-voltage rectangular waveform and this can be used as a voltage source of sandpaper manufacturing process.

  • At a lower supply voltage, voltage-mode drivers draw less current than current-mode drivers. In this paper, we newly propose a voltage-mode driver with an additional current path that reduces the output voltage swing without the need for complicated additional circuitry, compared to conventional voltage-mode drivers. The prototype driver is fabriccated in a 0.13-$^{\mu}m$ CMOS technology and used to transmit data streams at the rate of 2.5 Gb/s. Deemphasis is also implemented for the compensation of channel attenuation. With a 1.2-V supply, it dissipates 8.0 mA for a 400-mV output voltage swing.

  • In recent, complex SVPWM (Space Vector PWM) algorithm can be easily implemented by high performance microprocessor and DSP. Various SVPWM techniques are widely studied due to the advantages of low harmonic distortion and high use ratio of D.C. link voltage. Most of various studies for improving of VS-PWM inverter performance are concentrated about switching pattern and zero pulse pattern split algorithms. However, dc link voltage that is determined at rated load and speed conditions is not proper in the low speed and under rated load. In this paper, analysis of current ripple with digitally implemented SVPWM inverter is introduced according to link voltage. The optimal link voltage in the designed inverter system and load condition is provided in order to suppress output voltage error and current ripple. As remaining the effective voltage vector interval per sampling period sufficiently, additional voltage error and current ripple are suppressed. The proposed algorithm is verified through digital simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper describes the effect of secondary surges entering low voltage side on the primary winding of pole transformers. After having connected the secondary winding by 4 different methods, surge voltages were applied to the low voltage side, and voltage waveforms were measured at a surge applied point and a high voltage bushing terminal. The measured voltages were compared by the waveform, magnitude and damping characteristics with each connection. As a result, the voltage waveforms induced by the secondary surges were different one another with each connection, especially, the conventional connecting method for 2 voltage sources was far different from the present method supplying only 1 voltage source in shape of the voltage waveform.
