Characteristics of particle holdup and heat transfer were investigated in a liquid-particle swirling fluidized bed whose diameter was 0.102 m and 2.5 m in height. Effects of liquid velocity, particle size and swirling liquid ratio($R_s$) on the particle holdup and immersed heater-to-bed overall heat transfer coefficient were examined. The particle holdup increased with increasing particle size and swirling liquid ratio but decreased with increasing liquid velocity. The local particle holdup was relatively high in the region near the heater when the $R_s$ value was 0.1~0.3, but the radial particle holdup was almost uniform when the $R_s$ value was 0.5, whereas, when the $R_s$ value was 0.7, the local particle holdup was relatively low in the region near the heater. The heat transfer characteristics between the immersed heater and the bed was well analyzed by means of phase space portraits and Kolmogorov entropy(K) of the time series of temperature difference fluctuations. The phase space portraits of temperature difference fluctuations became stable and periodic and the value of Kolmogorov entropy tended to decrease with increasing the value of $R_s$ from 0.1 to 0.5. The Kolmogorov entropy exhibited its maximum value with increasing liquid velocity. The value of overall heat transfer coefficient(h) showed its maximum value with the variation of liquid velocity, bed porosity or swirling liquid ratio, but it increased with increasing particle size. The value of K exhibited its maximum at the liquid velocity at which the h value attained its maximum. The particle holdup and overall heat transfer coefficient were well correlated in terms of dimensionless groups of operating variables.

For plasma cosmetics, it is important to ensure the long-term stability of plasma in the formulation. This study examined the suitability of containers for efficient plasma cosmetics development. By varying the surface area covered by the plasma, 4 cm2, 25 cm2, 75 cm2, and 175 cm2 containers were injected with cosmetic plasma, and the amount of nitric oxide (NO), the main active species of nitrogen plasma, was analyzed. As a result, the surface area and stability exposed to plasma tended to be inversely proportional, and it was most effective in a 4 cm2 container. Furthermore, 25 mm, 40 mm, and 50 mm vials were treated with plasma, which resulted in relative long-term stability of NO at 25 mm, a smaller surface area of the container exposed to air. Water mist and stratified mist were selected as cosmetic formulations, and NO plasma was injected into the water layer to observe the changes in formulation properties and the state of the injected NO plasma. In both formulations, the amount of NO plasma injected was about 1.5 times higher in the water phase mist than in the stratified mist, and the stratified mist gradually decreased with time and was found to disappear after 3 weeks. The stability of the nitrogen plasma was studied at low temperature (4 ℃), room temperature (25 ℃), and high temperature (37 ℃, 50 ℃). As a result, it was found that the water mist did not affect the stability, but the stratified mist observed a color change in the oil phase layer. Overall, this study demonstrates the container suitability of nitrogen plasma and suggests the importance of ensuring the stability of injected nitrogen plasma in cosmetic formulations.
This work investigated the catalytic reaction characteristics of $H_2$ SCR applied at low temperature ($80{\sim}150^{\circ}C$) using Pt catalyst supported on $TiO_2$. The experiments were performed in terms of $H_2O$, $O_2$ in reaction gas, calcination temperature of the Pt catalyst, $H_2$/NOx mole ratio, space velocity. $H_2O$ was an inhibitor of reaction on $H_2$ SCR using Pt catalyst, catalytic performance increased as $O_2$ concentration decreased. Nevertheless, $NH_3$ slip generated by the reaction between NOx and $H_2$ in the absence of $O_2$. While it was effective to calcine less than $600^{\circ}C$ by phase transition and the catalytic performance increased as $H_2$/NOx mole ratio increased. However, $H_2$ slip was not observed at that increase mole ratio by $H_2$ oxidation to $H_2O$.
A $Li_2O-2SiO_2$ ($LS_2$) glass was investigated as a lithium-ion conducting oxide glass, which is applicable to a fast ionic conductor even at low temperature due to its high mechanical strength and chemical stability. The $Li_2O-2SiO_2$ glass is likely to be broken into small pieces when quenched; thus, it is difficult to fabricate a specifically sized sample. The production of properly sized glass samples is necessary for device applications. In this study, we applied spark plasma sintering (SPS) to fabricate $LS_2$ glass samples which have a particular size as well as high transparency. The sintered samples, $15mm\phi{\times}2mmT$ in size, ($LS_2$-s) were produced by SPS between $480^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$ at 45MPa for 3~5mim, after which the thermal and dielectric properties of the $LS_2$-s samples were compared with those of quenched glass ($LS_2$-q) samples. Thermal behavior, crystalline structure, and electrical conductivity of both samples were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and an impedance/gain-phase analyzer, respectively. The results showed that the $LS_2$-s had an amorphous structure, like the $LS_2$-q sample, and that both samples took on the lithium disilicate structure after the heat treatment at $800^{\circ}C$. We observed similar dielectric peaks in both of the samples between room temperature and $700^{\circ}C$. The DC activation energies of the $LS_2$-q and $LS_2$-s samples were $0.48{\pm}0.05eV$ and $0.66{\pm}0.04eV$, while the AC activation energies were $0.48{\pm}0.05eV$ and $0.68{\pm}0.04eV$, respectively.

Heteroepitaxial GaN nano- and micro-rods (NMRs) are one of the most promising structures for high performance optoelectronic devices such as light emitting diodes, lasers, solar cells integrated with Si-based electric circuits due to their low dislocation density and high surface to volume ratio. However, heteroepitaxial GaN NMRs growth using a metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) machine is not easy due to their long surface diffusion length at high growth temperature of MOVPE above $1000^{\circ}C$. Recently some research groups reported the fabrication of the heteroepitaxial GaN NMRs by using MOVPE with vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) technique assisted by metal catalyst. However, in the case of the VLS technique, metal catalysts may act as impurities, and the GaN NMRs produced in this mathod have poor directionallity. We have successfully grown the vertically well aligned GaN NMRs on Si (111) substrate by means of self-catalystic growth methods with pulsed-flow injection of precursors. To grow the GaN NMRs with high aspect ratio, we veried the growth conditions such as the growth temperature, reactor pressure, and V/III molar ratio. We confirmed that the surface morphology of GaN was strongly influenced by the surface diffusion of Ga and N adatoms related to the surrounding environment during growth, and we carried out theoretical studies about the relation between the reactor pressure and the growth rate of GaN NMRs. From these results, we successfully explained the growth mechanism of catalyst-free and mask-free heteroepitaxial GaN NMRs on Si (111) substrates. Detailed experimental results will be discussed.
The power management integrated circuit(PMIC) for CCD image sensor is presented in this study. A CCD image sensor is very sensitive against temperature. The temperature, that is heat, is generally generated by the PMIC with low efficiency. Since the generated heat influences performance of CCD image sensor, it should be minimized by using a PMIC which has a high efficiency. In order to develop the PMIC with high efficiency, the input stage is designed with synchronous type step down DC-DC converter. The operating range of the converter is from 5V to 15V and the converter is controlled using PWM method. The PWM control circuit consists of a saw-tooth generator, a band-gap reference circuit, an error amplifier and a comparator circuit. The saw-tooth generator is designed with 1.2MHz oscillation frequency. The comparator is designed with the two stages OP Amp. And the error amplifier has 40dB DC gain and $77^{\circ}$ phase margin. The output of the step down converter is connected to input stage of the charge pump. The output of the charge pump is connected to input of the LDO which is the output stage of the PMIC. Finally, the PMIC, based on the PWM control circuit and the charge pump and the LDO, has output voltage of 15V, -7.5V, 3.3V and 5V. The PMIC is designed with a 0.35um process.

Liquid silicon infiltration, which is one of the methods of producing fiber reinforced ceramic composites, has several advantages such as low fabrication cost and good shape formability. In order to confirm LSI process feasibility of SiC fiber, $SiC_f/SiC$ composites were fabricated using three types of SiC fibers (Tyranno SA, LoxM, Tyranno S) which have different crystallinity and oxygen content. Composites that were fabricated with LSI process were well densified by less than 2% of porosity, but showed an obvious difference in 3-point bending strength according to crystallinity and oxygen content. When composites in LSI process was exposed to a high temperature, crystallization and micro structural changes were occurred in amorphous SiOC phase in SiC fiber. Fiber shrinkage also observed during LSI process that caused from reaction in fiber and between fiber and matrix. These were confirmed with changes of process temperature by SEM, XRD and TEM analysis.
The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC), driven by high density water sinking around Greenland serves as a global climate regulator, because it transports heat and materials in the climate system. We analyzed the mechanism of AMOC on a decadal time scale simulated with the HadGEM2-AO model. The lead-lag regression analysis with AMOC index shows that the decadal variability of the thermohaline circulation in the Atlantic Ocean can be considered as a self-sustained variability. This means that the long-term change of AMOC is related to the instability which is originated from the phase difference between the meridional temperature gradient and the ocean circulation. When the overturning circulation becomes stronger, the heat moves northward and decreases the horizontal temperature-dominated density gradients. Subsequently, this leads to weakening of the circulation, which in turn generates the anomalous cooling at high latitudes and, thereby strengthening the AMOC. In this mechanism, the density anomalies at high latitudes are controlled by the thermal advection from low latitudes, meaning that the variation of the AMOC is thermally driven and not salinity driven.
In contrast to conventional microwaves, QRD (Quadratic Residue Diffusor) microwaves are a new energy-efficient technology that enhances the effect of sterilization based on changing the wavelength phase difference. Therefore, this study investigated the sterilization of wood using environmentally friendly and low energy consuming QRD microwaves. The results are as follows: for the QRD microwaves used in this study, the efficiency E = 5.75e0.32 S ($R^2$=0.908). Although the early water content was not constant, the average water content was 30.3% and after one week of natural drying, the water content was 22.6%, representing an average water content reduction of about 8%. When increasing the microwave level from 3 kW ~ 9 kW, the time taken for the temperature to increase was reduced. After the QRD microwave treatment, the wood samples showed no change in their flexural rigidity, compressive strength, or cleavage. The QRD microwave levels used in the experiments were 3, 5, 7, and 9 kW, where 9 kW was found to be the most efficient. Thus, for the purpose of eliminating nematodes and termites inside wood, a higher QRD microwave level was found to be more effective and energy efficient.
The magnetic thin films can be prepared without vacuum process and under the low temperature (<100 $^{\circ}C$) by ferrite plating. We have performed ferrite plating of M $n_{x}$Z $n_{0.22}$F $e_{2.78-x}$$O_4$(x=0.00~0.08) films and N $i_{x}$Z $n_{0.22}$F $e_{*}$2.78-x/ $O_4$(x=0.00~0.15) films on cover glass at the substrate temperature 90 $^{\circ}C$. The crystal structure of the samples has been identified as a single phase of polycrystal spinel structure by x-ray diffraction technique. The lattice constant in the M $n_{x}$Z $n_{0.22}$F $e_{2.78-x}$$O_4$films increases but in the N $i_{x}$Z $n_{0.22}$F $e_{*}$2.78-x/ $O_4$films decrease with the composition parameter, x. The saturation magnetization in the M $n_{x}$Z $n_{0.22}$F $e_{2.78-x}$$O_4$films does not greatly change, in agreement with observations on bulk samples.k samples.k samples.
