The microwave dielectric properties of low temperature sintered BaO-Nd$_2$O$_3$-TiO$_2$ (here after BNT) with a Pb-based glass-ceramics were studied in order to investigate their applicability to Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics (LTCC) for fabrication of multilayered Radio Frequency (RF) passive components module. The BNT ceramics, with 5∼30 wt% of PbO-TiO$_2$-A1$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$ based glass-ceramics, were sintered at 105$0^{\circ}C$, which is lower than 130$0^{\circ}C$, sintering temperature of pure BNT ceramics. With increasing the amount of the glass-ceramics, sintering rate of the ceramics become activated due to the softening of glass, resulting in low-temperature densification. BaO-Nd$_2$O$_3$-TiO$_2$ microwave ceramics with 20 wt% glass-ceramics exhibit sintered relative densities over 95% and dielectric constant of 72, quality factor of 1500, and temperature coefficient of frequency of +22 ppm/$^{\circ}C$. This enhanced dielectric properties are attributed to mainly the presence of crystalline phases PbTiO$_3$ within the Pb-based glass.

Crystal structure, microstructure, and dielectric properties of the (Ca, Sr)(Zr, Ti)O3 (CSZT) system has been studied as a function of sintering temperature and MgO addition for microwave applications. A single-phase CSZT powder with the orthorhombic crystal structure was obtained by the solid-state reaction method. The powder compacts were sintered at 1200℃, 1300℃, and 1400℃ respectively. All the sintered samples had a single-phase orthorhombic crystal structure and grain size increased with sintering temperature. In the case of 1 mol% MgO addition, the orthorhombic crystal structure was the main phase; however, a secondary phase appeared during sintering at 1400℃, as determined by EDS analysis. At 1400℃, the undoped and MgO-doped CSZT had almost similar grain size distribution and densification but the grain size distribution became slightly narrow. The MgO-doped CSZT showed excellent low-loss dielectric properties: εr = 34.14, tanδ = 0.00047, τε = -3.58 ppm/℃ at 1 MHz.

Co-firing incompatibility between the low temperature sinterable Glass/ceramic and Ag-thick film was studied. The dielectric material, which has been developed for microwave frequency applications, consists of $SiO_2-TiO_2-Bi_2O_3$-$Bi_2O_3$-RO system(RO:BaO -CaO-SrO) crystallizable glass and $Al_2O_3$as a ceramic filler. The large camber in the sintered specimen and cracks at the Ag-film under the influence of the camber occurred due to the difference of densification rate between the ceramic sheet and the Ag-film $B_2O_3$addition to the Glass/ceramic mixture reduced the severe camber. The cambers decreased with increasing the $B_2O_3$ content, and completely disappeared with 14 vol% $B_2O_3$addition. With additions of $B_2O_3$, $\varepsilon_{r}$ decreased abruptly, Q$\times$f value increased largely and the $\tau_f$ value of the material quickly shifted to positive one.

This study investigated microstructures, crystal structures, polarization, dielectric and electromechanical properties of 0.76Bi1/2Na1/2TiO3-0.24SrTiO3 (BNT-24ST)-based piezoceramcs by adding Li2CO3 and B2O3 (LB) as sintering aids for low-temperature sintering. All samples were successfully synthesized using conventional solid-state reaction method and sintered at 950, 1,000, 1,050, 1,100 and 1,175℃ for 2 hours. Without LB, specimens required sintering temperatures over 1,175℃ for sufficient densification, while the addition of 0.10-mol LB decreased the sintering temperatures down to 950℃. The average grain size and dielectric properties of BNT-24ST-10LB ceramics were enhanced with increasing sintering temperature. We found that the low-temperature sintered BNT-24ST piezoceramics by adding LB showed the d33*value of 402 pm/V at 4 kV/mm after sintering at 1,050℃, which was better than that of high-temperature fired specimens sintered at 1,175℃ without LB (242 pm/V). We believe that the results of this study promise a candidate for low-cost multilayer ceramic actuator applications.

Alumina (Al2O3) is mainly used as a structural ceramic material and to have good mechanical properties requires a dense microstructure. In commercial fabrication, the liquid phase sintering process is adjusted to reduce the sintering temperature of alumina. In this study, the effect of added amounts of cobalt oxide as a coloring agent on the microstructure and mechanical properties was investigated in the CaO-SiO2-MgO-system liquid phase sintering of 92 % alumina at various sintering temperatures. When 11 wt% Co2O3 was added, a rearrangement of alumina particles, which is the main densification step in liquid phase sintering, occurred from a sintering temperature of 1200℃. Solution re-precipitation and coalescence steps followed from 1300℃ with the grain growth of alumina particles. The addition of excess Co2O3 and sintering temperatures above 1400℃ resulted in a decrease in sintered density and Vickers hardness, because of the low viscosity of the liquid phase. In 92 % alumina with the addition of 11 wt% Co2O3, a sintered density and Vickers hardness of 3.86 g/㎤ and 12.32 GPa, respectively, were obtained at a sintering temperature of 1350℃.

Low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology offers significant benefits over the other established packaging technologies for high density, high microwave frequency, and fast signal application. Most conventional electroceraramics do not meet the basic requirements in respect of sinterability for LTCC technology. Attention is, therefore, focused on the role of glasses because of the capability they supply with lower sintering temperatures. In this study, commercial ceramic (MBRT-90) in the system BaO-N $d_2$$O_3$-Ti $O_2$ (BNT: 40 ~ 80 wt%) and L $a_2$$O_3$- $B_2$$O_3$-Ti $O_2$ glass (LBT;60 ~ 20 wt%) were prepared. These glass/ceramic composites were evaluated for sintering behavior, phase evaluation, densities, interface reaction, crystallinity, microstructure and microwave dielectric properties. It was found that the addition LBT glass frits significantly lowered the sintering temperature to below 90$0^{\circ}C$ and as temperature increased (750~90$0^{\circ}C$) densification developed dynamically which was meant to be as over 95% of relative density. It is supposed that in the microstructure, the grain size was increased accompanying with the formation of different phases such as LaB $O_3$ and Ti $O_2$ under the condition of increasing sintering temperature. The sintered bodies represented applicable dielectric properties, namely 20 ~ 40 for $\varepsilon_{{\gamma}}$, ~ 10000 GHz for Q* $f_{0}$ and 10~80 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ for $\tau$$_{f}$. The results suggest that the composite is one of feasible candidates for the microwave use in LTCC technology.y.e use in LTCC technology.y.
This paper proposes a 10-${\mu}m$ thick oxide layer structure that can be used as a substrate for RF circuits. The structure has been fabricated using an anodic reaction and complex oxidation, which is a combined process of low-temperature thermal oxidation (500 $^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr at $H_2O/O_2$) and a rapid thermal oxidation (RTO) process (1050 ${\circ}C$, for 1 min). The electrical characteristics of the oxidized porous silicon layer (OPSL) were almost the same as those of standard thermal silicon dioxide. The leakage current density through the OPSL of 10 ${\mu}m$ was about 10 to 50 $nA/cm^2$ in the range of 0 to 50 V. The average value of the breakdown field was about 3.9 MV/cm. From the X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, surface and internal oxide films of OPSL prepared by a complex process were confirmed to be completely oxidized. The role of the RTO process was also important for the densification of the porous silicon layer (PSL) oxidized at a lower temperature. The measured working frequency of the coplanar waveguide (CPW) type short stub on an OPSL prepared by the complex oxidation process was 27.5 GHz, and the return loss was 4.2 dB, similar to that of the CPW-type short stub on an OPSL prepared at a temperature of 1050 $^{\circ}C$ (1 hr at $H_2O/O_2$). Also, the measured working frequency of the CPW-type open stub on an OPSL prepared by the complex oxidation process was 30.5 GHz, and the return was 15 dB at midband, similar to that of the CPW-type open stub on an OPSL prepared at a temperature of $1050^{\circ}C$ (1 hr at $H_2O/O_2$).
Sintering characteristics and dielectric properties of low temperature sinterable Glass/Ceramic dielectric materials were investigated. The dielectric materials which were developed for microwave frequency applications consist of SiO2-TiO2-Bi2O3-RO system(RO:BaO-CaO-SrO) crystallizable glass and Al2O3 as a ceramic filler. Sintering experiments showed that no more densification occurred above 80$0^{\circ}C$ and bulk density and shrinkage depended on Al2O3 content only. Results of dielectric measurements showed that $\varepsilon$r Q$\times$f and $\tau$f of the material containing 30wt% Al2O3 were 17.3, 600 and +23 ppm respectively. Those values for 45 and 60wt% Al2O3 samples were 11.6, 1400, +0.7 ppm and 7.2, 2000, -8.5 ppm, repectively. The results clearly showed that the Glas/Ceramic materials of present experiment decreased in $\varepsilon$r and increased in $\times$f value and changed from positive to negative value in $\tau$f value with the increasement of Al2O3 content.
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of applied pressure and sintering temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties for spark plasma sintering (SPS) from commercial pure titanium (CP-Ti) powders. Spark plasma sintering is a relatively new sintering technique in powder metallurgy which is capable of sintering metal and ceramic powers quickly to full density at a fairly low temperature due to its unique features. SPS of -200 mesh or -400 mesh CP-Ti powders was carried out in an $Ar+H_2$ mixed gas flowing atmosphere between $650^{\circ}C$ and $750^{\circ}C$ under 10 to 80 MPa pressure. When SPS was carried out at relatively low temperatures ($650^{\circ}C$ to $750^{\circ}C$), the high (>60 MPa) pressure had a marked effect on densification and grain growth suppression. The full density of titanium was achieved at temperatures and pressures above $700^{\circ}C$ and 60 MPa by spark plasma sintering. The crystalline phase and microstructure of titanium sintered up to $700^{\circ}C$ consisted of ${\alpha}$-Ti and equiaxed grains. Vickers hardness ranging from 293 to 362 Hv and strength ranging from 304 to 410 MPa were achieved for spark plasma sintered titanium.
Effect of glass addition on the low-temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of $BaTi_4O_9$-based ceramics were studied to develop the materials for the functional substrate of low-temperature co-fired ceramics. When 10 wt% of glass was added, sufficient densification was obtained and the relative density more than 98% was reached at the sintering temperature of$875{\circ}C$. The microwave dielectric properties were k=32, Q*f=9000 GHz, ${ au}_f$=10 ppm/${\circ}C$. As the amount of glass increased, phase decompositions from $BaTi_4O_9;to;BaTi_5O_{11};and;Ba_4Ti_{13}O_{30}$ was observed.
