An Assessment of Derailment Safety of Railway Vehicle depending on Curve Rail Condition (곡선부 선로 조건에 따른 차량의 탈선안전도평가)

  • To assess the derailment safety of the Samaeul Train, We developed a fleet analysis model and carried out sensitivity analysis of the variables related to derailment factors with ADAMS/Rail computing analysis method. Depending on the variation of the running speed in curve section, derailment coefficient and wheel load reduction rate are high at right side wheels in slow running speed section and low at left side wheel in high running speed. According to decreasing the radius of curve, derailment coefficient and wheel load decreasing rate are increased. Derailment coefficient is proportional to transition curve length and wheel load decreasing rate is constant. Cant value rising causes wheel load deduction rate rising.

  • In this paper, traction system for urban transit maglev system is proposed. Using vector control strategy to control magnitude and frequency of output voltage transiently is general. But in case of traction system for railway vehicle, it is impossible that adapt vector control because there is one-pulse mode in a high speed region. So this paper proposes the control strategy using vector control in a low speed region and slip frequency control in a high speed region. And also proposes overmodulation method that makesto change in one-pulse mode softly. The performance of traction system will be verified by simulation results using ACSL.

  • Recently existing the road traffic low is requlated by hump standard, which is established throuth the actual england TRRL(Transpodt and Road Research Laboratory) experiment. The determined standard has been utilized, however, wihtout the test on of our street and its drivers driving characteristics. Even with the utilization, the appropriate before and after management, is not constituted. In Spite of minimum speed limit, in many case, the utilization itself is questionalble rather than the purpose of restraining speed limit or reducing vehicle confacts. Along with hump consideration, social attention is focused due to series of personal law suit(traffic accident) field against the negligence of local organization management. Therefore counter measure of safe transportation facility is urgently required. With consideration of above background, the purpose of this research is to develop the hump that is appropriate with our transportation environment. This can be achieved thr ugh analysis of hump effectiveness, examination of drivers awamess, facilitation/management problems, and various problems in verticle acceleration.

  • Ramjets are capable of much higher specific impulse than liquid rocket engines for high speed flight in the atmosphere. Ramjets, however, cannot generate thrust at low flight speed. Therefore, an additional propulsion device to accelerate the ramjet vehicle to a supersonic speed is required. In this study, we propose a novel ramjet propulsion system with a $H_2O_2$/Kerosene rocket as the accelerator for initial stage. In order to test the feasibility of this concept, consecutive reactors was built; one for the decomposition of $H_2O_2$ and the other for kerosene combustion. Decomposed $H_2O_2$ jet was injected to combustor through converging nozzle from gas generator and over this hot oxygen jet, kerosene was injected by spay injector. Through the various test cases, hypergolic ignition test was carried out and steady combustion was achieved.

Steady-State/Transient Performance Simulation of the Propulsion System for the Canard Rotor Wing UAV during Flight Mode Transition

  • A steady-state/transient performance simulation model was newly developed for the propulsion system of the CRW (Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) during flight mode transition. The CRW type UAV has a new concept RPV (Remotely Piloted Vehicle) which can fly at two flight modes such as the take-off/landing and low speed forward flight mode using the rotary wing driven by engine bypass exhaust gas and the high speed forward flight mode using the stopped wing and main engine thrust. The propulsion system of the CRW type UAV consists of the main engine system and the duct system. The flight vehicle may generally select a proper type and specific engine with acceptable thrust level to meet the flight mission in the propulsion system design phase. In this study, a turbojet engine with one spool was selected by decision of the vehicle system designer, and the duct system is composed of main duct, rotor duct, master valve, rotor tip-jet nozzles, and variable area main nozzle. In order to establish the safe flight mode transition region of the propulsion system, steady-state and transient performance simulation should be needed. Using this simulation model, the optimal fuel flow schedules were obtained to keep the proper surge margin and the turbine inlet temperature limitation through steady-state and transient performance estimation. Furthermore, these analysis results will be used to the control optimization of the propulsion system, later. In the transient performance model, ICV (Inter-Component Volume) model was used. The performance analysis using the developed models was performed at various flight conditions and fuel flow schedules, and these results could set the safe flight mode transition region to satisfy the turbine inlet temperature overshoot limitation as well as the compressor surge margin. Because the engine performance simulation results without the duct system were well agreed with the engine manufacturer's data and the analysis results using a commercial program, it was confirmed that the validity of the proposed performance model was verified. However, the propulsion system performance model including the duct system will be compared with experimental measuring data, later.

  • With aggravation of environmental contamination and energy resource exhaustion, Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) that can be economically operated with low fuel consumption are receiving greater attention. For performance improvement of such HEV, the development of efficient transmission can be seen as one of core technologies such as performance of components and driving strategy. Dual clutch transmission (DCT) is actively studied as a transmission type for HEV due to its advantages of having excellent power transmission efficiency based on manual transmission characteristic, resolving the problem of power interruption, and realizing driving convenience of automatic transmission (AT). In this paper, one diesel HEV equipped with 6-Speed DCT, modelled using MATLAB/Simulink, and a performance simulator developed for this vehicle are introduced. Driving simulation with driving cycles such as FTP75 and NYCC was performed using the developed performance simulator, and the simulated results regarding state of charge and fuel economy, when AT and DCT are applied to this diesel hybrid vehicle respectively, are compared. This performance simulator can be utilized to develop a control algorithm for improving the fuel economy of HEV with DCT.

Experimental Study on Neck Injury in Low Speed Frontal and Rear-End Collisions

  • Motor vehicle accidents in rear impacts cause more than fifty percents of drivers to suffer from neck injuries. It is known that most neck injuries are associated with rear-end collisions at a speed lower than 32 km/h and between the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) 1 and AIS 2. Two different types of low speed crash tests such as the frontal barrier and rear moving barrier crashes have been conducted by following the procedure of the Research Committee for Automobile Repairs (RCAR). The injury for the neck and the Head Injury Criteria (HIC) were measured by using the sensors mounted on dummies. We reviewed neck injures and the relationship between the neck and head injuries, and examined the deceleration of the body. Using the experimental test data at the neck, we investigated an improved neck injury criterion Nij. Also, the effects of the position of a head restraint on reducing the frequency and severity of the neck injury in rear-end collisions were investigated.

  • In the development of high speed marine vehicle, lilting devices became important in sharing the pay load or controlling the attitude. The devices are also important to meet the IMO regulation to prevent the marine pollution by keeping the high rudder force for VLCC even in low speed operation. The high lift devices such as the Coanda device have been introduced to the aircraft as a common practice for a long time among the aero-engineers. If the Coanda device can be utilized to the flapped rudder, the severe requirement of rudder force could be provided for the VLCC in low speed operation. The performance of the rudder system has been investigated at the towing tank of Seoul National University.

  • Now, Autonomous unmanned vehicle has become an issue in next generation technology. 2D Laser scanner as the distance measurement sensor is used. 2D Laser scanner detects the distance of 80m, measured angle is -5 to 185 degree. Laser scanner detects only the plane, but using motor swings. As a result, traffic signs detect and analyze patterns. Traffic signs when driving at low speed, shape of the detected pattern is very similar. By shaking the laser scanner, traffic signs and other obstacles became clear distinction.

  • Proximity sensors and rearview cameras for automobile safety are common, but many accidents are still occurring. Using the All Around View and object recognition algorithm to show the front, back, left, right and bottom of the vehicle, the sensor detects the presence of a living body when the vehicle starts or parks, and displays the outside of the vehicle on the screen. In addition, the object recognition algorithm is used to visualize the object by expressing the position of the object. In this way, we propose a strong safety system that can prevent human accidents caused by the vehicle by sensing, screen, and expression.
