2G HTS tapes are widely used for various electric machines. In addition, stacked or parallel connected HTS tapes are essentially used to raise transport current level for large capacity electric machines. Therefore, critical current characteristic of stacked tapes need to be studied. Recently developed 2G HTS tapes are fabricated with various defects doping so that tapes possess pinning center to improve the critical current characteristic. During this process, the critical current is determined minimum value in not perpendicular magnetic field but a specific magnetic field angle according to the reported research. However, the effects of magnetic field angle to critical current of multi-stacked 2G HTS tapes have not been examined. In this paper, field coil which is a race-track coil wound by using an HTS tape with iron-core was fabricated to apply angle adjustable magnetic field to the 2G HTS tape samples. We measured critical current of single and multi-stacked two tapes that have different characteristic depending on various magnetic field angle and magnitude in liquid nitrogen environment. Furthermore, results of single and multi-stacked tapes were compared and analyzed.

Purpose: This study aims to develop new markers based on silicone rubber and urethane rubber to enhance visibility in low magnetic field magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Methods: Four types of markers were fabricated using two different base materials. Two of the markers were composed of two different types of silicone rubber: DragonSkin™ 10 MEDIUM and BodyDouble™ SILK. The other two markers were composed of types of urethane rubber: PMC™ 780 DRY and VytaFlex™ 20. Silicone oil (KF-96 1000cs) was added to the fabricated markers. The allocated amount of oil was 20% of the weight (wt%) of each respective marker. The MR images of the markers, with and without the silicone oil, were acquired using MRIdian with a low magnetic field of 0.35 T. The signal intensities of each MR image for the markers were analyzed using ImageJ software and the visibility for each was compared. Results: The highest signal intensity was observed in VytaFlex™ 20 (279.67±3.57). Large differences in the signal intensities (e.g., 627% in relative difference between BodyDouble™ SILK and VytaFlex™ 20) among the markers were observed. However, the maximum difference between the signal intensities of the markers with the silicone oil showed only a 62% relative difference between PMC™ 780 DRY and DragonSkin™ 10 MEDIUM. An increase in the signal intensity of the markers with the silicone oil was observed in all markers. Conclusions: New markers were successfully fabricated. Among the markers, DragonSkin™ 10 MEDIUM with silicone oil showed the highest MR signal intensity.
In this study, we extrapolate a nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) from an observed photospheric magnetic field to understand the three-dimensional (3D) coronal magnetic field producing a huge solar flare. The purpose of this study is to develop a NLFFF extrapolation code based on the so-called MHD relaxation method and check how accurately our model reconstructs a coronal field. Furthermore, we apply it to the photospheric magnetic field obtained by Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) on board Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) to reconstruct a 3D magnetic structure. We first investigate factors in controlling the accuracy of our NLFFF code by using a semi-analytical solution obtained by Low & Lou (1990). To extend a work done by Inoue et al. (2014), we apply various boundary conditions at the side and top boundaries in order to make our solution close to a realistic solution. As a consequence, our solution has a good accuracy when three components of a reference field are all fixed at the boundaries. Furthermore, it is also found that our solution is well matched to the Low & Lou solution in the central area of a simulation domain when the three components of a potential field are fixed at side and top boundaries (this approach is close to a realistic solution). Finally, we present the 3D coronal magnetic field producing an X 1.5-class flare in the active region 11166 through the extrapolation from SDO/HMI.
The design model and key parameters of the material design for the control of induced magnetic flux at the near-field and efficient power transfer in a modified wireless power transfer (WPT) system with a large air gap of wireless electric vehicles were investigated through analytical simulations for magnetic vector and time-domain transient analysis. Higher saturation magnetic core with low core loss induced a stronger vertical magnetic field by the W-type primary coil in the WPT system with a gap of 20 cm at 20 kHz, which is shown from the vector potentials of the magnetic induction. The transient analysis shows that the higher magnetic fluxes through the pick-up cores lead to a linear increment of the alternating voltage with a sinusoidal waveform in the non-contact energy transfer system.
The magnetic field standards, facilities and capabilities available at NPL for the calibration of magnetometers and gradiometers and the measurement of the magnetic properties of materials will be introduced. The details of the low magnetic field facility will be explained and the capabilities this facility enables for the characterisation and calibration of ultra-sensitive room temperature magnetic sensors will be presented. Building on core material capabilities that are compliant with the IEC 60404 series of written standards, the example of a standard permeameter that has been modified for the measurement of strips for real world conditions is discussed. This was incorporated into a stress machine to measure the DC properties of the soft magnetic materials used by the partners of a collaborative industry led R&D project at stress levels of up to 700 MPa. The results for three materials are presented and the changes in the properties with applied stress compared to establish which material exhibits favourable properties.
We have been developing a new magnetic filter so that small sized paramagnetic substances can be separated even in a low magnetic field (lower than 2T). The developed filter is a packed ferromagnetic filament with a triangular cross section. The filament has a diameter of 120 ㎛ and a length of 3 mm, and is mechanically packed with a volume ratio of 17.6%. Using this filter, a magnetic separation experiment of hematite was carried out using a superconducting magnet at the field of 2T. Similarly, magnetic separation was performed using a conventional magnetic filter. It became clear that the separation efficiency of newly developed filter is high as that of conventional mesh filter. The smaller sized hematite (<3 ㎛) could be separated though conventional mesh filter could not separate.

We studied the distribution of the current density and its magnetic-field dependence in GdBCO coated conductors with AC bias currents using low temperature scanning Hall probe microscopy. We selectively measured magnetic field profiles from AC signal obtained by Lock-in technique and calculated current distributions by inversion calculation. In order to confirm the AC measurement results, we applied DC current corresponding to RMS value of AC current and compared distribution of AC and DC transport current. We carried out the same measurements at various external DC magnetic fields, and investigated field dependence of AC current distribution. We notice that the AC current distribution unaffected by external magnetic fields and preserved their own path on the contrary to DC current.
This paper investigates the experimental and simulated time-varying magnetic field generation in a chlor-alkali manufacturing process. 19kA thyristor-based rectifier is modeled and analyzed. The performance is compared and evaluated on the basis of exposure guidelines from ICNIRP. The mechanical structure of current carrying conductor is simplified as an infinite long busbar model and low frequency harmonic contents up to 65kHz are considered. Thyristor rectifier generates a significant amount of low frequency magnetic field harmonic contents both at ac and dc busbar of rectifier infringing the limit of ICNIRP. Along with simulation analysis the experimental measurement of the time-varying magnetic field in ac input busbar, rectifier block, dc load and busbar are presented. The experimental test results partly confirm the simulation results.
To investigate the magnetic field distribution of power line, we used amorphous wire sensor. And we discuss extremely low frequency magnetic field distribution dependent upon arrangement of power line and shielding pipe made from iron or alumimum materials by both measurement and FEM(Finite Element Method) analysis. Appling current of single phase 60 [Hz] 15 [A] is supplied to copper wire coated enamel resign. As the results, we confirmed that linear characteristics of amorphous wire sensor is very excellent and measurement value agrees with FEM calculation. Magnetic field distribution due to shielding materials is changed by permeability and conductivity.
