  • Low frequency oscillation of inter-area system is important problem in power system areas because the operation conditions of power system depend on it. Generally, the analysis of the problem is used by small signal stability. Especially, the analysis results are affected by decision of load models. In this paper, the effect of the analysis results was studied according to load component characteristics. ZIP model, popular in large-scaled power system analysis, was used as the load model. Many cases were studied according to the combination of ZIP model in inter-area system.

  • Refining is very important process of fibers treatment for proper paper properties. An extent of refining is usually measured by freeness, although freeness gives complicated meanings. One of a direct way of studying the refining effects on pulp fibers is making photomicrographs of beaten fibers. The conventional microscopy like light microscopy(LM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) require to preserve the wet structure of pulp fibers morphologically since most of papermaking process is carried out almost entirely in water. Recently developed microscopy, especially confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM), offers the possibility of examining fully hydrated pulp fibers. Cross-sectional images of wet pulp fibers are also generated using optical sectioning by CLSM and image analysis in order to verify and quantify the extent of fiber wall swelling indicating the internal fibrillation. At low beating load such as 2.5 kgf, in the same freeness, breaking length is higher than that of high beating load such as 5.6 kgf. fiber wall thickness at low beating load is greater than that at high beating load. This result is accounted for the fact that internal fibrillation in the low beating load was high.

  • In odrder to survey the emission level of air pollutants from diesel vehicles, was measured CO, HC, NOx and smoke of 4 types of domestic-use diesel engines under various conditions. The emission of CO, HC and NOx tested by 6-Mode test method and smoke emission by full load test met the permissible vehicle emission standard. Pollutant emission rates of diesel engines were different according to engine operating conditions, that is, engine load and engine speed. Generally, CO and HC was emitted more at low load and NOx at high load but the trend was quite different by the type of engines. In exhaust gas, $NO_2$ portion of NOx emission was high, specially at low speed and low load. The correlation equation between CLD(NOx) and NDIR(NO) method of nitrogen of nitrogen oxides analysis was y = 1.10x - 3.48 (y: CLD method) as a result of 6-mode test.

  • The leak-before-break (LBB) behaviors of a structural component under high and low fatigue loads are an important problem in nuclear power plants, liquid nitrogen gas tankers and chemical plants. This paper is an experimental study to evaluate the crack opening behavior after penetration for plate and pipe specimens. Crack opening displacement after penetration under low fatigue load could be satisfactorily determined at the center of the plate thickness regardless of the specimen size. In the case of high fatigue load, it is shown that the crack opening displacement at the center of a penetrated crack carl be derived using the gross stress, $\sigma$/sug G/, and the front surface crack length, a$\_$s/, together with the back surface crack length, a$\_$b/.

  • Chain drive power transmission system was developed for a low head hydro-turbine which generates power by energy transformation on the turbine blades attached to chains. Also, experimental and theoretical analysis for the sprocket wheel tooth load distribution were performed. The tooth load was measured by the specially designed load sensor. It was found that the tooth load distribution for the steady state operation was in good accordance with the quasi-static state results showing the peak load at the final meshing tooth. The trend of the experimental results agreed with the theoretical results based on the spring model analysis and difference in the magnitude of the maximum tooth load was considered to be the effect of the variable spring constant due to the moving contact point between the roller and sprocket wheel tooth.

  • A load sharing algorithm is one of the important factors in computer system. In sender-initiated load sharing algorithms, when a distributed system becomes to heavy system load, it is difficult to find a suitable receiver because most processors have additional tasks to send. The sender continues to send unnecessary request messages for load transfer until a receiver is found while the system load is heavy. Because of these unnecessary request messages it results in inefficient communications, low cpu utilization, and low system throughput. To solve these problems, we propose a self-adjusting evolutionary algorithm for improved sender-initiated load sharing in distributed systems. This algorithm decreases response time and increases acceptance rate. Compared with the conventional sender-initiated load sharing algorithms, we show that the proposed algorithm performs better.

  • The friction characteristic of plastics (PTFE, Nylon, Acetal and phenolic) was studied on the lubricated condition with a pin on disk machine. Mineral oil without additive (base oil) and water were used as liquid lubricants at the controlled temperature. From the experimental work, it was found out that the coefficient of friction of plastics was controlled by the mechanical properities of plastic more than that of liquid for various load and temperature. Viscosity of liquid has affected on the friction only at low temperature under lighb load. Among the tested plastics, the coefficient of friction of PTFE was the lowest under light load and at low temperature while Nylon at medium load and temperature, and Acetal at heavy load and high temperature. The coefficient of friction of soft plastics like PTFE and Nylon were increased as the load and temperature were increased, while that of hard plastic (Acetal) was decreased and that of thermo setting plastic (phenolic) was mixed. Also for soft plastics, the coefficient of friction under heavy load was always higher than that under light load, while hard plastic was vice versa.

  • The bi-directional high pile load test(BDH PLT) does not have weaknesses found in the existing bi-directional low pile load test(BDL PLT); it has strong economics, is unbound by load capacity limit and secures quality stability of working piles. In this study, Verification the field found a very high capacity level of stability and reliability of the BDH PLT, as well as outstanding field applicability. Field verifications reaffirmed the advantage of the BDH PLT device, which was capable of loading 90 MN capacities as maximum. It was also found to be durable enough to load high capacity with ease.

  • Herein, a low-ripple coarse-fine digital low-dropout regulator (D-LDO) without ringing in the transient state is proposed. Conventional D-LDO suffers from a ringing problem when settling the output voltage at a large load transition, which increases the settling time. The proposed D-LDO removes the ringing and reduces the settling time using an auxiliary power stage which adjusts its output current to a load current in the transient state. It also achieves a low output ripple voltage using a comparator with a complete comparison signal. The proposed D-LDO was fabricated using a 65-nm CMOS process with an area of 0.0056 μ㎡. The undershoot and overshoot were 47 mV and 23 mV, respectively, when the load current was changed from 10 mA to 100 mA within an edge time of 20 ns. The settling time decreased from 2.1 ㎲ to 130 ns and the ripple voltage was 3 mV with a quiescent current of 75 ㎂.

  • This study was aimed at the relationship between peak EMG amplitude on low back muscles acting on L5/S1 and load center of gravity, trunk lateral bending while lifting an object. Musculoskeletal disorders including low back pain can occur even when handling heavy objects only once as well as when doing non-heavy materials repeatedly. 11 male subjects with average 23 age were required to lift a 15.8kg object symmetrically three times. Peak EMG amplitudes on 6 muscles related with L5/S1 were recorded and analyzed. The lifting conditions consisted of lifting symmetric load with no trunk lateral bending, asymmetric load with no trunk lateral bending, and asymmetric load with trunk lateral bending to the load center of gravity within an object. The results showed that peak EMG amplitude on back muscles contralateral to load center of gravity was observed greater in comparison with the symmetric load. Also, in case of lifting asymmetric load the posture with trunk lateral bending increased peak EMG amplitude on muscles contralateral to load center of gravity more than with no trunk lateral bending. This research can be used as one administrative intervention in order to reduce the low back pain incidence with suggesting workers that they keep the trunk not bending to load center of gravity if possible when lifting a heavy asymmetric object.
