  • The behaviour of composite frame - shear wall systems with regard to creep and shrinkage with high beam stiffness has been largely unattended until recently since no procedure has been available. Recently an accurate procedure, termed the Consistent Procedure (CP), has been developed which is applicable for low as well as for high beam stiffness. In this paper, CP is adapted for a class of composite frame - shear wall systems comprising of steel columns and R.C. shear walls. Studies are reported for the composite systems with high as well as low beam stiffness. It is shown that considerable load redistribution occurs between the R.C. shear wall and the steel columns and additional moments occur in beams. The magnitude of the load redistribution and the additional moment in the beams depend on the stiffness of the beams. It is also shown that the effect of creep and shrinkage are greater for the composite frame - shear wall system than for the equivalent R.C. frame - shear wall system.

  • This paper represents a new type low power High Frequency technological ion source (HF TIS) for ion - beam processing: the surface modification of materials, cleaning of surface, sputtering, coating of thin films, and polishing. The operational principle of HF TIS is based on the excitation of electrostatic waves in plasma located in the external magnetic field. Low power HF TIS with diameter 92 rom gives the opportunity to obtain beams of inert and chemically reactive gases with currents range from 5 to 150 mA (current density $0.015\;~\;3.5\;mA/\textrm{m}^2$) and ion beam energy 100 ~ 2500 eV at a HF power level 10 ~ 150 W. Three grid concave type ion optical system (IOS) is used for extraction and formation ofion beam.n beam.

  • A low energy ion irradiation system based on the deuterium arc ion source with a high perveance of 1 µP for a single extraction aperture has been successfully developed for the investigation of ion irradiation on plasma-facing components including the first mirror of plasma optical diagnostics system. Under the optimum operating condition for mirror testing, the ion source has a beam energy of 200 eV and a current density of 3.7 mA/cm2. The ion source comprises a magnetic cusp-type plasma source, an extraction system, a target system with a Faraday cup, and a power supply control system to ensure stable long time operation. Operation parameters of plasma source such as pressure, filament current, and arc power with D2 discharge gas were optimized for beam extraction by measuring plasma parameters with a Langmuir probe. The diode electrode extraction system was designed by IGUN simulation to optimize for 1 µP perveance. It was successfully demonstrated that the ion beam current of ~4 mA can be extracted through the 10 mm aperture from the developed ion source. The target system with the Faraday cup is also developed to measure the beam current. With the assistance of the power control system, ion beams are extracted while maintaining a consistent arc power for more than 10 min of continuous operation.

  • Today, the most common process for generating Through Silicon Vias (TSVs) for 3D ICs is Deep Reactive Ion Etching (DRIE), which allows for high aspect ratio blind holes with low surface roughness. However, the DRIE process requires a vacuum environment and the use of expensive masks. The advantage of using lasers for TSV drilling is the higher flexibility they allow during manufacturing, because neither vacuum nor lithography or masks arc required and because lasers can be applied even to metal and to dielectric layers other than silicon. However, conventional nanosecond lasers have the disadvantage of causing heat affection around the target area. By contrast, the use of a picosecond laser enables the precise generation of TSVs with less heat affected zone. In this study, we conducted a comparison of thermalization effects around laser-drilled holes when using a picosecond laser set for a high pulse energy range and a low pulse energy range. Notably, the low pulse energy picosecond laser process reduced the experimentally recast layer, surface debris and melts around the hole better than the high pulse energy process.

  • We present a piezoelectric energy harvester with stopper-engaged dynamic magnifier which is capable of significantly increasing the operating bandwidth and the energy (power) harvested from a broad range of low frequency vibrations (<30 Hz). It uses a mass-loaded polymer beam (primary spring-mass system) that works as a dynamic magnifier for another mass-loaded piezoelectric beam (secondary spring-mass system) clamped on primary mass, constituting a two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) system. Use of polymer (polycarbonate) as the primary beam allows the harvester not only to respond to low frequency vibrations but also generates high impulsive force while the primary mass engages the base stopper. Upon excitation, the dynamic magnifier causes mechanical impact on the base stopper and transfers a secondary shock (in the form of impulsive force) to the energy harvesting element resulting in an increased strain in it and triggers nonlinear frequency up-conversion mechanism. Therefore, it generates almost four times larger average power and exhibits over 250% wider half-power bandwidth than those of its conventional 2-DOF counterpart (without stopper). Experimental results indicate that the proposed device is highly applicable to vibration energy harvesting in automobiles.

  • A hemiconfocal resonator equipped with an intra-cavity adjustable aperture and a beam splitter has been studied experimentally to achieve a controlled low beam divergence operation in a vapor laser system. The dependences of output characteristics both on the aperture diameter and on the angle of beam splitter have been investigated. By adjusting the aperture diameter from 14mm to 2mm to 2mm, we were able to reduce the beam divergence from 3.1 mrad to 0.25 mrad and achieved the 8-times increase in the far-field power density.

  • In this study low priced laser measurement system was made, so its reliability was investigated Intensity distribution of laser beam measured by devised system and FFT analyzer and their results were examined for proving reliability of devised system. Transmitted laser beam intensity on photodiode changed by eccentrically rotating of disk cam and motor speed. To get results, photodiode and devised amplifier were used for changing voltage. After that, response signal was calculated by signal analysis program. It was found that the vibration of disk cam could be measured by the intensity distribution of laser beam and the same tendency was obtained by FFT. Change of motor speed effected the distribution of laser beam, which was obtained by devised system. Also linear distribution was got by sensitive balancing switch on amplifier according to the transmission of laser beam on photodide.

  • We experimented variables of four kinds(a/d=1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5) of shear span ratio to consider a structural characteristic of high-strength lightweight concrete beam used industrial by-product. Through the research of serials, the more increase of shear span ratio, the more ductility is superior. Rating the capacity of high-strength concrete beam and the capacity of lightweight concrete beam, in existing lightweight concrete beam evaluation formula, if a shear strength formula for normal concrete multiplies 0.85(reduction factor), it is rated as safety side over shear span ratio 2.5, but it is riskful at low shear span ratio. Therefore it is important that these factors are considered as the evaluation.

  • Using piezoelectric elements to harvest energy from ambient vibrations has been of great interest over the past few years. Due to the relatively low power output of piezoelectric materials, there are many study to improve the energy harvesting efficiencies. This paper is study the efficiencies of the output energy considering the cantilever piezoelectric bimorph using aluminum vibration beam. when the length of vibration beam and the piezoelectric body becomes same and the maximum output power comes out. DC voltage was increased as the beam thickness and vibration frequency was increased. The vibration beam was able to achieve very large energy value.

  • In the side scan sonar method, use is made of the back-scattering, at low grazing angles of incidence to the seabed, of relatively high-frequency acoustic waves radiated in a fan-shaped beam from a transducer contained in a towed body. The fan beam is oriented so that the wider angle is in the vertical plane (scan range) and the narrower angle in the horizontal plane (beam width) with the axis of the beam normal to the ship track. The display of the returns is usually realized as a series of closely spaced intensity-modulated lines on a paper recorder or computer screen display. In this way a two-dimensional picture of the seabed is build up.
