Methods: The subjects of the study were fifty patient with low back pain in orthopedic clinic. Fifty patients who had low back pain were randomly divided into 2 groups, 1) dry-hydrotherapy group 2) control group. Visual analog scale(VAS) and Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire were measured before and after treatment. The treatment plan Was as follows; 15 min. exercise per day and 5 days per week for 2 weeks. Results: 1. Before dry-hydrotherapy, there was no significant difference in VAS score and Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire score between two groups. 2. The VAS score was significantly decreased in both groups after 2-week dry-hydrotherapy and the decrease in the AS score in dry-hydrotherapy group was significantly lower than in control group. 3. The Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire score was significantly decreased in both groups after 2-week dry-hydrotherapy and the decrease in Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire score dry-hydrotherapy group was significantly lower than in control group. Conclusion: In conclusion, the dry-hydrotherapy was effective to alleviate pain in patients with low back pain.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify degrees of low back pain, knowledge of and educational needs for low back pain of patients with chronic low back pain and to investigate their relationships. Methods: Data were collected from questionnaires distributed to 83 patients with chronic low back pain at a hospital. Results: The low back pain score was $4.70{\pm}2.22$ out of 10. The degree of low back pain was a statistically significant difference according to gender, smoking, radiating pain and frequency and duration, daily life disturbance degree, sleep disturbance and depression. The knowledge score was 8.29 out of 13. The knowledge was a statistically significant difference according to smoking and degree of sleep disturbance. The educational needs score was 39.83 out of 50. The educational needs was a statistically significant difference according to age, duration of disease, radiating pain, standing time, depression, pain treatment experience, and treatment institutions. As the low back pain increased, the educational needs increased (r=.254, p=.021). There were no correlations between low back pain and knowledge (r=-.040, p=.720) and knowledge and educational needs (r=.061, p=.581). Conclusion: It is important to focus on items with statistically significant differences in pain, knowledge, and educational needs, and to select low knowledge and high educational needs items to develop a systematic education plan.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among pain, depression and life satisfaction of the chronic low back pain patients. Method: The subjects are 98 adults that visit hospital regularly or are hospitalized for back pain in a general hospital from June 1st to August 30th in 2007. The data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 12.0. Results: The mean score for chronic low back pain as measured by the VAS was 5.85(${\pm}2.22$). The mean score for depression as measured by BDI was 1.83(${\pm}\;.83$). The average score for life satisfaction was 2.89(${\pm}\;.93$). There was a significant positive correlation between pain and depression. But there were significant negative correlations between pain & life satisfaction, depression & life satisfaction respectively. Conclusion: Chronic low back pain can be occurred to all ages and there are significant relationships among the pain, depression and life satisfaction. Therefore, the nursing interventions to help for relieving the pain and depression for patients with chronic low back pain is required.

This study was undertaken to find out the effect analysis of conservative treatment in of lumbar intervertebral disc. The data was performed to evaluate the effect of conservative treatment in 50 patients aging from 20 to 67 with lumbar intervertebral disc patients. Changes in low back pain score were evaluated by age, occupation, duration of symptoms, marital status, education period, self assessment. Duration of symptoms in over 7 months was 62.0%. 8.6 scores of complete recovery was changes in low back pain score of self assessment patients. In the multiple regression of risk factors to changes in low back pain score were correlated with age, education period, marital status, duration of symptoms(p<0.05). All patients were assessed by the low back pain protocol which was composed of symptom, clinical sign and activities of daily living scales before and after the treatment. Poor result could be predicted after the nonoperative treatment in the patient groups of changes low back pain score decreased with aging, duration of symptom over 7 months.
Objectives : This study was done for reporting the effect of acupuncture treatment on Ryodoraku score of the patients with chronic low back pain due to the kidney deficiency Methods : We investigated 37 cases of patients with chronic low back pain due to the kidney deficiency, and devided patients into two groups : We specially treated one group by acupuncture treatment, which was not applied to the other group we analyzed of each group the Ryodoraku score(F3) of each group before and after acupuncture treatment and compared it. Results : 1. In acupuncture treatment group compared with baseline, at final, Ryodoraku score(F3) was significantly increased. 2. At final, acupuncture treatment group showed significant increase on Ryodoraku score(F3) score compared with non acupuncture treatment group. Conclusions : It is suggested that Ryodoraku score(F3) should be available for diagnosing kidney deficiency-induced chronic low back pain as a promising diagnostic index and a outcome measurement.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to show a relationship between health perception and health promoting behaviors in chronic low back pain patients. Method: The subjects for this study were 213 persons who the visited hospital with low back pain-related problems. Results: The higher the level of the health perception in chronic back pain patients was the higher the rate of the practice of health promoting behaviors (r=0.393, p<.001). The health perception T score was $50.00{\pm}10.00$. As for health promoting behaviors, the T score was $49.99{\pm}10.00$. The subscale of the highest mean score was interpersonal support $(2.96{\pm}0.64)$ and the subscale of the lowest mean score was exercise $(2.13{\pm}0.99)$. Conclusion: This study showed that chronic low back pain patients had a lower level of perception of their health, and their practice to improve their health was not enough. Therefore, nurses should educate and encourage chronic low back pain patients in proper exercises and correct posture to strengthen and maintain lumbar extension muscle power.
Objective : Since ancient times venepuncture has been widely used as a useful treatment for low back pain. This study is made in order to objectively evaluate the therapeutic effect of Weizhong(BL40) on low back pain. Methods : Total 46 cases of low back pain patients were divided into 2 groups; one group took only acupuncture therapy, and the other group took acupuncture and venepuncture therapy together. Each patient's pain was evaluated before the treatment and the 3 or 4 days later after the treatment. Pain rating score(PRS) was used to assess the pain for its intensity, frequency, duration, and aggravating factors. Results : Both acupuncture therapy group and acupuncture & venepuncture group showed good effect on low back pain. Though the latter group showed better pain release effect than the former, there was no statistical significance between pain rating score of two groups. Sciatica group showed no significant difference from non-sciatica group in pain rating score. Palpation on Weizhong(BL40) group showed significant difference only in pain duration from non-palpation group. Exposed vessel around Weizhong(BL40) group showed significant difference in pain rating score from non-exposed vessel group. Conclusion : Weizhong(BL40) venepuncture can be highly recommended as a useful therapy for low back pain patients especially who show exposed vessels on the popliteal area.
Objectives : The aim of the study is to investigate the correlation of Ryodoraku score and four constitution in the patients with chronic low back pain. Methods : Using Pearson's correlation test, we divided 79 patients into two groups(normal and chronic low back pain group) and analyzed the correlation between Ryodoraku score and major constitution rate of four constitution. Results : 1. Ryodoraku score in the chronic low back pain group was mostly found to be below 40 ${\mu}A$, regardless of constitution. 2. There was negative correlation on F2 in lesser Yin person of chronic low back pain group, and there was positive correlation on H4 H5 F2 F4 and F5 in greater Yin person of chronic low back pain group. 3. There was negative correlation on H1 and H6 in lesser Yang person of normal group. 4. There was negative correlation on H6 in lesser Yang person of total group including normal and chronic low back pain group. Conclusion : These results suggest that roydoraku should be correlated to four constitutional diagnosis in part and available to increase accuracy of four constitutional or Ryodoraku diagnosis.

Purpose : This study was carried out to evaluate correlation between Bone Mineral Density(BMD) and degenerative lumbar disease in postmenopausal low back pain patients. Methods : 69 postmenopausal patients with low back pain were examined. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed to evaluate degenerative lumbar disease and bone mineral density of lumbar spine was measured by Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. Data were analyzed by Pearson's Linear Correlation Coefficient. Results : In postmenopausal patients with low back pain, BMD(T-score, Z-score) had negative correlation with the grade of intervertebral disc herniation and positive correlation with weight. Other lumbar diseases including Spinal stenosis, Spondylolisthesis and Facet joint arthrosis didn't have significant correlation with BMD. Conclusion : In postmenopausal patients with low back pain, BMD(T-score, Z-score) had inverse relationship with the grade of intervertebral disc herniation.
Objective : This study was done for reporting the effect of $Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method to $Ryodoraku$ on the patients with chronic low back pain Methods : We investigated 49 cases of patients with chronic low back pain, and devided patients into two groups : We treated one group by needling with $Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method, and did the other group by needling without $Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method. And we analyzed the $Ryodoraku$ score (F4). Results : 1. In $Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method group and non-$Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method group, compared with baseline, at final, $Ryodoraku$ score (F4) was significantly increased. 2. At final, $Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method group showed significant increase on $Ryodoraku$ score (F4) score compared with non-$Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method group. Conclusions : $Sa-Am$ acupuncture bladder reinforcing method showed significant improvement in $Ryodoraku$ score (F4) on chronic low back pain.
