  • This study investigated the relationship between refractive error and ocular elements in myopic anisometropia and isometropia. 15 visually normal myopic anisometropes (>1.00 D interocular difference), 14 emmetropes (${\pm}$ 0.50 D), 15 low myopes (<3.00 D) and 15 high myopes (>3.00 D) participated in the study. Refractive error was measured by non-cycloplegic subjective refraction. (omitted)

  • This article will compare the following visual categories: visual angle, distinguishable details, sensitivity, and dynamic range. These categories are often considered within the subject of the maximum deviation from the camera eye, an issue which has generated much controversy. Other characteristics such as depth of field, three-dimensional vision, white balance and color, are not considered in this article.

  • In this paper, a novel method of jig-saw puzzle matching is proposed using a modifided boundary matching algorithm without a priori knowledge for the matched puzzle. Specifically, a boundary tracking algorithm is utilised to segment each puzzle from low-resolution image data. Segmented puzzle is described via corner point, angle and distance between two adjacent coner point, and convexity and/or concavity of corner point. Proposed algorithm is implemented and tested in IBM PC and PC version vision system, and applied successfully to real jig-saw puzzles.

  • The purpose of this project is to develop the visual servoing system with 5d.o.f robot manipulator. For this, we developed robot manipulator by using 5 serial RC motors and the visual system is also developed by using low cost USB CCD camera. RISC MPU ATMEGA128 is main controller MPU for the robot manipulator. To control the manipulator Kinematics was analyzed and GUI, API for vision system also were developed.

  • In this paper, an automatic functional inspection system EVT (Emulated Vision Tester) for LCD drive module PCB has been proposed and implemented. Typical automatic inspection system such as probing methods and vision-based systems are widely known and used, however, there exist undetectable defects due to critical timing factors which they may miss to catch from LCD equipments. Especially typical vision-based systems have inconsistency on acquisition of images so that distinction between gray scales can be difficult which results in low level of performance and reliability on the inspection results. The proposed EVT system is pure hardware solution. It directly compares pattern signals from a pattern generator to output signals from LCD drive module. It also inspects variety of analog signals such as voltage, resistance, wave forms and so forth. The EVT system not only shows high performance in terms of reliability and processing speed but reduces costs on inspection and maintenance. Also, full automation of entire production line can be realized when EVT is applied in in-line inspection processes.

The Effect of Vision and Hearing Limitation on the Onset of Disability among Korean Elderly with the Consideration of Social Participation and Depression (시력·청력제한이 노년기 장애 발생에 미치는 영향 연구: 사회참여와 우울을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of vision and hearing limitation on the onset of disability among Korean elderly with the consideration of social participation and depression. Study population consisted of 2,670 people aged 65 and above who participated in both the 1st(2006) and 2nd(2008) wave of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging(KLoSA), and also reported no ADL or IADL disability in 2006. As the results, first, it found that vision and hearing limitation, social participation, and depression were significant risk factors for the onset of IADL disability in unadjusted analysis. After multivariable adjustment, however, only vision limitation showed significant association with the onset of IADL disability. Second, in the logistic analysis with four categorized variables(vision/hearing limitation + social participation, vision/hearing limitation + depression), the elderly who had vision or hearing limitation had a significantly 1.7 times higher odds ratio for disability onset if they also had low social participation compared with those who had no vision or hearing limitation, and high social participation. Whereas, depression was not significantly associated with the relationship between vision or hearing limitation, and disability onset. The study suggests that the intervention program developed to prevent social isolation of older people with vision or hearing limitation, may be helpful to reduce and postpone the risk of disability onset as well as early detection and treatment of vision or hearing problems.

The Study of Accommodation Assessment in Binocular Functional Test (양안시검사의 조절평가 연구)

  • The binocular functional test was performed in test of both accommodation and convergence. The balance of accommodation and convergence was important. Objects were 100 adults in 18-36 years old ages. The used apparatus was vision tester(Shinnippon VT10)and visual chart(Shinnippon CT30). Accommodative lag test by fused cross cylinder were that in case of high 39.0%, in case of low 14.0%. Negative relative accommodation were that in case of high 23.0%, in case of low 38.0%. Positive relative accommodation were that in case of high 29.0%, in case of low 23.0%. In 18% were case of low accommodation.

  • In this paper, we propose an approach to identify the driving environment for intelligent highway vehicles by means of image processing and computer vision techniques. The proposed approach mainly consists of two consecutive computational steps. The first step is the lane marking detection, which is used to identify the location of the host vehicle and road geometry. In this step, related standard image processing techniques are adapted for lane-related information. In the second step, by using the output from the first step, a four-stage algorithm for vehicle detection is proposed to provide information on the relative position and speed between the host vehicle and each preceding vehicle. The proposed approach has been validated in several real-world scenarios. Herein, experimental results indicate low false alarm and low false dismissal and have demonstrated the robustness of the proposed detection approach.

  • This paper presents a low-complexity algorithm for an H.264/AVC encoder. The proposed motion estimation scheme determines the best coding mode for a given macroblock (MB) by finding motion-blurred MBs; identifying, before motion estimation, an early selection of MBs; and hence saving processing time for these MBs. It has been observed that human vision is more sensitive to the movement of well-structured objects than to the movement of randomly structured objects. This study analyzed permissible perceptual distortions and assigned a larger inter-mode value to the regions that are perceptually less sensitive to human vision. Simulation results illustrate that the algorithm can reduce the computational complexity of motion estimation by up to 47.16% while maintaining high compression efficiency.
