  • We research into the exhaust system volume what proving the optimum exhaust performance and combustion characteristics. Many automobile manufactures have developed complex exhaust system for environment regulation and noise reduction. This complex exhaust system provides acoustics silencing and low frequency noise for customers demand. Recently, automobile exhaust system have made the Dual muffler concerning to the noise and vibration reduction. Also it bring the engine performance down by decreasing the back pressure and temperature in the exhaust system. The experiments are carried out different volume of exhaust system. In order to establish the optimized conditions design factors which are taking exhaust system volume, it show how the exhaust performance influence on the engine performance in idling.

  • Micro gas turbines are designed with low turbine inlet temperature and pressure ratio. To overcome the efficiency defect of the simple cycle, adoption of the recuperator is an inevitable choice. In addition to the design performance, we should also pay attention to the off-design performance of gas turbines since they usually operate at part-load conditions for a considerable amount of the time. This study aims at analyzing off-design performance characteristics of micro gas turbines and addressing the importance of the recuperator in the part load operation. Comparative analyses have been performed to evaluate the part load performance differences among various design and operating options : simple vs recuperative cycles, single vs two shaft configurations, various operating strategies for the single shaft configuration (fuel only control, variable speed operation, variable inlet guide vane control), and current vs advanced engines. Major finding is that maintaining turbine at high level is crucial in efficient operation of micro gas turbines.

Performance and heat transfer characteristics of refrigeration system using R-502 alternatives (R-502의 대체냉매를 사용한 냉동시스템의 성능 및 열전달 특성)

  • In order to replace CFC-502 which has been widely used in transportation and low temperature refrigeration system, performance tests using HFC-407A, HFC-404A and HFC-507 have been carried out. Measurements were conducted at two different condensing temperatures of $43.3^{\circ}C$and $54.5^{\circ}C$ for each refrigerant. System performance characteristics and heat transfer characteristics of each refrigerant were obtained at several compressor speeds and evaporating temperatures ranging from$-25^{\circ}C$ to $-10^{\circ}C$ Test results show that the use of tested alternative refrigerants without changing system components offers the potential performance improvement of a refrigeration system.

  • Li, Zr doped mesoporous silica was synthesized in one pot and investigated for low temperature $CO_2$ adsorption. Herein CTAB and TEOS are used as structural directing agent and silica source respectively. The characteristics of the material was obtained from FT IR, XRD, SEM, TG and BET results. ICP AES results revealed the presence of lithium and zirconium. The material possesses high surface area ($962.22m^2g^{-1}$) with mono dispersed particles of about 2 nm. The maximum $CO_2$ adsorption capacity is 5 wt % (50 mg/g) of $CO_2$/g of sorbent at $25^{\circ}C$, which is regenerable at $200^{\circ}C$. This regeneration temperature of the adsorbent is lower than the reported lithium zirconium silicate powder. Until now, there is no report for the synthesis of Li, Zr doped mesoporous silica. The performance studies illustrate that Li, Zr doped mesoporous silica is tunable, regenerable, recyclable and selective sorbent and hence found to be a promising candidate for $CO_2$ adsorption.

  • EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) is considered as a most effective method to reduce the NOx emissions. But high EGR tolerance is always pursued not only for its advantages of the pumping loss reduction and fuel economy benefit in Gasoline-Hybrid engine. However, the occurrence of excessive cyclic variation with high EGR normally prevents substantial fuel economy improvements from being achieved in practice. Therefore, the optimum EGR rate should be carefully determined in order to achieve low fuel consumption and low exhaust emission. In this study, 2 liters gasoline engine with E-EGR system was used to investigate the effects of EGR on fuel efficiency, combustion stability, engine performance and exhaust emissions. With optimal EGR rates, the fuel consumption was improved by 4%. This improvement was achieved while a reduction in NOx emissions of 75% was accomplished. Increase of EGR gas temperature causes the charge air temperature to affect the knock phenomenon and moreover, the EGR valve lift changes for the same control signal.

Reliability Analysis for Deuterium Incorporated Gate Oxide Film through Negative-bias Temperature Instability and Hot-carrier Injection (Negative-bias Temperature Instability 및 Hot-carrier Injection을 통한 중수소 주입된 게이트 산화막의 신뢰성 분석)

  • This paper is focused on the improvement of MOS device reliability related to deuterium process. The injection of deuterium into the gate oxide film was achieved through two kind of method, high-pressure annealing and low-energy implantation at the back-end of line, for the purpose of the passivation of dangling bonds at $SiO_2/Si$ interface. Experimental results are presented for the degradation of 3-nm-thick gate oxide ($SiO_2$) under both negative-bias temperature instability (NBTI) and hot-carrier injection (HCI) stresses using P and NMOSFETs. Annealing process was rather difficult to control the concentration of deuterium. Because when the concentration of deuterium is redundant in gate oxide excess traps are generated and degrades the performance, we found annealing process did not show the improved characteristics in device reliability, compared to conventional process. However, deuterium ion implantation at the back-end process was effective method for the fabrication of the deuterated gate oxide. Device parameter variations under the electrical stresses depend on the deuterium concentration and are improved by low-energy deuterium implantation, compared to conventional process. Our result suggests the novel method to incorporate deuterium in the MOS structure for the reliability.

  • LTCC (Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) or LTCC-M (Low Temperature Cofired ceramic on Metal) technology is one of MCM-C (Multichip Module on Ceramic) technologies and becomes to be widely used in consumer, RF and automotive electronics. As green sheets for LTCC are cofired below $1000^{\circ}C$ in comparison with those for HTCC (High Temperature Cofired Ceramic), high conductivity metal traces such as gold, silver and copper can be used. The dimensional stability in LTCC-M technology enables embedded passives to be integrated inside modules, which enhances the electrical performance and increases the reliability of the modules. Coefficient of thermal expansion and dielectric constant can be controlled by changing composition and heating profile for cofiring. In this technical review, LTCC and LTCC-M technologies are introduced and advantages of those technologies are explained.

  • An experimental study was performed to examine the heat and mass transfer characteristics of $LiBr-H_2O$ solution flowing over a single horizontal tube with the water vapor absorption. Effects of the flow rate and the temperature of the solution at the top of the tube, the absorber pressure and the drainage pattern were considered. The absorption rate depends highly on the absorber pressure at the low flow rate condition while on the solution inlet temperature at the high flow rate condition. Also, when the flow rate is low, the absorption performance with the sheet flow drainage appeared to be higher than that with the dripping/jet drainage. However, at the high flow rate condition, the case became reversed. The liquid film became wavy with the higher absorption rate. The waves were more probable to form with the lower flow rate and temperature of the solution, and with the higher absorber pressure.

A Study on the Plate for Deep Discharge in Lead Acid Battery (납축전지의 심방전용 극판에 관한 연구)

  • Positive plate was composed of lead hydroxide via reaction between lead oxide and $H_2O$ and lead sulfate was formed of the reaction of lead hydroxide with sulfuric acid. And its density is $3.8g/cm^3$, $4.0g/cm^3$, $4.2g/cm^3$ and $4.4g/cm^3$ by controlling volume of refined water. Curing of positive plate is done for low ($45^{\circ}C$, 40hr, over 95% of relative humidity) & high ($80^{\circ}C$, 40hr, over 95% of relative humidity) temperature, which created 3BS & 4BS active materials. Experimental result of DOD with 100% life cycle test shows that it was not related to the density of active materials but to the low & high temperature aging of active materials. The test makes us to understand that the crystallization which is made by curing of active materials is a more of a main factor than density of active materials under the deep cycle using circumstances. The active materials which were from the high temperature curing are better for deep cycle performance.

  • Non coating type Low melting yarn(L/M PET) not to use the polyurethane resin causing some problems was knitting and evaluated its dyeing characteristics, heat setting properties and flame-retardant properties without flame retardant agent or flame retardant fabric. In order to investigate the dyeing property of fabric of L/M PET, the dyeing of L/M PET was experimented at each different dyeing temperature. Higher exhaustion yield was achieved at lower temperature of L/M PET compared to regular PET. According to result of the study for the heat setting properties of L/M fiber, the K/S value of dyed L/M fiber increased as much as the heat setting temperature did. The experiment for the light fastness reached similar result to dyed PET. However washing fastness in L/M fiber showed lower grade compared with regular PET. flame-retardant efficiency of L/M PET without flame retardant agent or flame retardant fabric measured by $45^{\circ}$ burn test and Contact burn test. The flame?retardant performance of the sample was carried out according to the Korea Fire-fighting Standard.[KOFEIS 1001].
