  • NGC 6803 is an elliptical ring shape planetary nebula. We analyzed the high dispersion spectra which had been observed with the Hamilton Echelle Spectrograph attached to the 3-m Shane telescope of Lick Observatory. We also investigated the low dispersion UV spectral data obtained with the 60-cm interstellar ultraviolet explorer. Diverse excitation lines were found from neutral to quadruply ionized ions. The temperature diagnostic lines indicate relatively low electron temperatures, i.e., $T_{\epsilon}{\leq}9500$ K for most lines except for [ClIV] - 11,500 K. In spite of its simplistic bi-laterally symmetrical elliptical shape, the nebula appears to be very complex of a hugh density range from 1300 to 80,000 $cm^3$. A comparison of the two epoch data suggests that the density increase occurred in the high excitation line zone near the inner boundary. We derived the chemical abundances of He, C, N, O, Ne, S, Ar, Cl, and K. The chemical abundances of NGC 6803 are enhanced compared with the average Galactic planetary nebula. Our self-consistent photo-ionization model study implies that the effective temperature of the central star is 90,000 K and its luminosity is 2400 $L_{\odot}$. The evolutionary track suggests that the progenitor of NGC 6803 was about 0.9 -- 1.0 $M_{\odot}$ star, which might be born from a metal-rich zone near the galactic disk, but now relocated into the present high Galactic latitude.

  • A hybrid supercapacitor (HS) is an energy storage device used to enhance the low weight energy density (Wh/kg) of a supercapacitor. On the other hand, a sudden decrease in capacity has been pointed out as a reliability problem after many charge/discharge cycles. The reliability problem of a HS affects the early aging process. In this study, the capacity performance of a HS was observed after charge/discharge. For detailed analysis of the initial charge/discharge cycles, the charge and discharge curve was measured at a low current density. In addition, a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer was confirmed after the charge/discharge. A HC composed of a lithium titanate (LTO) anode and active carbon cathode was used. The charge/discharge efficiency of the first cycle was lower than the late cycles and the charge/discharge rate was also lower. This behavior was induced by SEI layer formation, which consumed Li ions in the LTO lattice. The formation of a SEI layer after the charge/discharge cycles was confirmed using a range of analysis techniques.

  • Compressed natural gas (CNG) has been used as a vehicular fuel compressed at 24.8 MPa because the energy density of natural gas is extremely low compared with gasoline. Thus it has problems in both safety and cost for multiple stage compression. For these reasons the use of adsorbed natural gas (ANG) has been pursued since the storage of natural gas is possible at a relatively low pressure. The present target is to obtain media to store natural gas at 3.5 MPa as ANG that ensures the comparable energy density of CNG, giving approximately one-fourth the driving range of an equivalent volume gasoline tank. In this review, the recent development of carbon media, their characteristics, and practical applications for natural gas storage are introduced and some recommendations are also suggested.

  • To investigate the feasibility of a boom sprayer in the paddy field, an experimental boom sprayer for both broadcast and directed spraying to the lower part of rice plants was developed. The droplet deposition characteristics of the boom sprayers were experimentally compared to those of power sprayer. Water sensitive papers(WSP) and a machine vision system were used to evaluate the coverage rate and droplet density. It was shown that the broadcast application by the boom sprayer was the best coverage among the tested sprayers. Coverage tate and droplet density were affected by the distance between nozzles and the sprayer ground speed, The best result was obtained when the distance of 30cm and the speed of 1.7km/hr. The directed application showed inconsistency in overall droplet distribution. The inconsistency was judged to be caused by conflict between plants and boom extenders. The power sprayer showed a very wide range of droplet size distribution, relatively larger droplets and inconsistency in cove The power sprayer was judged to be inadequate for the low-volume precision application because of inconsistency in performance and difficulty in adjusting the spraying rate. Based on the droplet coverage characteristics, it was concluded that the self-propelled boom sprayer for the broadcast application was feasible for an alternative to the power sprayer in case of low volume, precision application in paddy condition.

  • A promising method for removal of Cs ions from water and their incorporation into stable crystal structure ready for safe and permanent disposal was described. Cs-exchanged X zeolite was hot-pressed at temperature ranging from 800 to 950 ℃ to fabricate dense pollucite ceramics. It was found that the application of external pressure reduced the pollucite formation temperature. The effect of sintering temperature on density, phase composition and mechanical properties was investigated. The highest density of 92.5 %TD and the highest compressive strength of 79 MPa were measured in pollucite hot-pressed at 950 ℃ for 3 h. Heterogeneity of samples obtained at 950 ℃ was determined using scanning electron microscopy. The pollucite hot-pressed at 950 ℃ had low linear thermal expansion coefficient of ~4.67 × 10-6 K-1 in the temperature range from 100 to 1000 ℃.

  • We have studied vortex dynamics in$ Bi_2$$Sr_2$$CaCu_2$O$_{8}$single crystals of unirradiated and irradiated samples by using 100 $\times$ $100\mu\textrm{m}^2$Hall sensor. Doses equivalent magnetic fields are 20 G, 100 G and 1 kG. In the magnetization measurement, a second magnetization peak (SMP) was observed in unirradiated, 20 G dose and 100 G dose samples in contrast to 1 kG dose sample. In the unirradiated sample, the SMP was observed in the range of 18 K ~ 35 K and the amplitude of the SMP decreased with increasing temperature. With increase of the irradiation dose, temperature region and sharpness of the SMP were reduced. In the magnetic relaxation measurement, we observed that the normalized relaxation rate S decreased with increasing the irradiation dose. Our results suggest that the vortex dynamics is not greatly affected by low-density columnar defects.s.

  • Copyrolysis of biomass/plastic mixture was carried out from room temperature to $600^{\circ}C$ with varing the heating rates of 10, 20, and $30^{\circ}C/min$ using a thermogravimetric analyzer. Waste wood chip (WWC) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) were selected as a biomass and plastic, respectively. Individual pyrolysis temperature ranges were $430{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ and $230{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ for LLDPE and WWC, respectively. For the copyrolysis of WWC and LLDPE, the decomposition temperature range of WWC was not varied, while the decomposition temperature range of LLDEP was increased to a higher temperature. The results imply that the interaction might occur between LLDEP and WWC during copyolyis of LLDPE and WWC.

  • To achieve a wide suction range, the low suction was imposed on compacted silt specimens by the axis translation technique and the high suction was imposed by the vapor equilibrium technique with saturated salt solutions. Firstly, the results of soil water retention tests on compacted silt show that the soil water retention curves in terms of gravimetric water content versus suction relation are independent of the dry density or void ratio in a high suction range. Therefore, triaxial tests on compacted silt with constant water content at high suctions can be considered as that with constant suction. Secondly, the results of triaxial shear tests on unsaturated compacted silt with the initial void ratio of about 0.75 show a strain-hardening behavior with a slightly shear contraction and then strain-softening behavior with an obviously dilation. As the imposed suction increases, the shear strength increases up to a peak value and then decreases when the suction is beyond a special value corresponding to the peak shear strength. The residual strength increases to fair value and those at high suctions are almost independent of imposed suctions. In addition, the contribution of suction to the strength of compacted silt would not diminish even in a high suction range.

  • Thin amorphous film of $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ acts as a positive resist in ion beam lithography. Previously, we reported the optical characteristics of amorphous $Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ thin film by the low-energy ion beam exposure and presented analytically calculated values such as ion range, ion concentration and ion transmission coefficient, etc. As the calculated results of analytical calculation, the energy loss per unit distance by $Ga^+$ ion is about $10^3[keV/{\mu}m]$ and nearly constant for all energy range. Especially, the projected range and struggling for 80 [KeV] $Ga^+$ ion energy are 0.0425[${\mu}m$] and 0.020[${\mu}m$], respectively. Hear, we present the results of Monte-Carlo computer simulation of Ga ion scattering, exposure and development in $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ resist film for focused ion beam(FIB) lithography. Monte-Carlo method is based on the simulation of individual particles through their successive collisions with resist atoms. By the summation of the scattering events occurring in a large number N(N>10000) of simulated trajectories within the resist, the distribution for the range parameters is obtained. Also, the deposited energy density and the development pattern by a Gaussian or a rectangular ion beam exposure can be obtained.

  • A comparison study between two low temperature opacity tables has been conducted. The opacity is the one of the major input physics in stellar model construction. Opacity is generally provided in a tabular form and as a function of 3 parameters, ie, density, temperature and chemical composition. Among available opacity tables, it has been common practice to utilize OPAL opacity table (Iglesias & Rogers, 1996) augmented with Ferguson opacity table (Ferguson et al. 2005) for the low temperature domain. For low temperature domain, another table, AESOPUS (Marigo & Aringer, 2009), has been announced in 2007. Reportedly, this opacity covers even lower temperature region, and is compatible with that of Ferguson in the overlapping temperature domain. To test the compatibility, stellar models and isochrones for various ranges in mass, metallicity and chemical composition, have been constructed. It is confirmed that there is no significant difference in the stellar models and isochrones constructed with the two different low temperature opacities. Therefore, in the construction of stellar models and isochrones, Ferguson low temperature opacity can be replaced with the AESOPUS opacity. The wider range in the temperature and chemical mixtures, and the easier accessibility make AESOPUS favorable in practical purpose.
